View Full Version : Electrical Fan Relay Pins: What goes where??

I have come to the conclusion that whomever did previous electrical work on 10287 was a massive idiot/hack/slob extraordinaire. Between the feet and feet of slapdash stereo/amplifier wiring to the non-functioning cruise control to the Gordian knot of an alarm system I don't have any faith in anything this heinous individual may have touched. This week I have been removing all of the aftermarket junk and doing general electrical cleaning and checking. The cooling fan relay wasn't grounded very well (loose terminal and some oxidation) but as I looked around I noticed the wires may not be going to the correct corresponding pins. So what I need to confirm is:

Does the live brown wire go to relay pin 87?
87A=Ground
86=Ground
85=Black/orange wire thru diode to otterstat
30=Brown/orange wire to circuit breaker

Thanks for any assistance and help in preserving my patience and sanity!

Have a look at the cooling fan circuit diagram, which is almost at the very bottom of the first post in this thread:

Does that help you?

I have been referencing that diagram and keep a hard copy next to me as I work. I guess after finding so many incorrectly wired things in my car I just need confirmation that I am comprehending the schematic correctly. It's very, very frustrating because my relay compartment is a mess and some things as they are now don't match the schematics :mad1:
