Infill Panel Fitment

I recently tried to install a new front right infill panel over the striker bracket. For some reason, the panel would not fit my underbody. When I flipped the new panel over, I saw that it was fiberglass for a later car instead of plastic. Could this be the reason it doesn't fit right?

Strange as I just laid one on top of the other (plastic verses F.G.)and they fit like Siamese twins. The only external difference is the larger hole-sawed 1 & 3/4" opening for the later striker setup.

Is the plastic one more flexible?

I had a half inch gap between the middle of the infill panel and the body.
