Hi everyone,

I was attempting to install a bluetooth module inside the craig w460 radio. So I removed the tape player and accompanying driver board and I attempted to power it up and I seem to have burnt up resistor R872, I believe because I accidentally left a screw underneath the radio when I powered it up and shorted something out. Does anyone have a correct wiring schematic, the ones I find online are either too low resolution or the numbering of the components is different. (Does the tape player board have to be plugged in in order for the rest of the radio to work? I hope not, because I wanted to use the space occupied by the tape player to mount my new bluetooth module.

Thanks!
Jayce

How about the official DMC Craig Radio Service Manual? :)

Excellent! Thanks! So I began to doubt that the power supply that I was using, (A crappy radio shack 12v wall transformer) was wired correctly. Turns out the wire with the black stripe was POSITIVE! (And the wire with no black stripe is negative) stupid radio shack, that's why they're going out of business!!!

I replaced that resistor that burnt up, it was a 10 ohm. I also figured out how to remove the tape player from the circuit. It needed a connection jumpered on the pins that the tape player board plugs into. So now it's playing fine with the tape player out of circuit. Well, now I have ran into an even stranger problem. For the volume knob, it says "pull" for balance. However it only pushes in. But when I push it to adjust the balance presumably, that same resistor R872 burns up, and the LCD display dims. Something is shorting out there. Gotta figure this out! Anyone have experience with this?

Got the radio working perfectly, turns out I had a bridge solder joint that caused the resistor to burn. The radio chassis also had ground lugs had also come loose, it caused the radio to work intermittently. Soldered those as well. Got bluetooth working flawlessly in the craig. I'll share a video shortly. I used the volume knob push feature as the bluetooth module's sync button. I just cannot switch the clock/radio frequency display anymore, but that doesn't bother me.

Thanks ! =) I despair. My ASI don't work and it's impossible to find a repair manual...

The most common failure by far is the volume control goes bad and the power cuts in and out. The part is NLA. There was a place in Kentucky IIRC that had parts but they dried up about 10 to 15 years ago. If you need proprietary parts you may be SOL!

It is also impossible to find the rubber parts for the cassette transport mechanism. They can be custom made but because of the limited quantity of the order the parts are too expensive to be worth it to listen to old cassettes. The best option is to have a USB port installed. If the sound is the problem the speaker cones are the reason because the foam surrounds have turned to dust. Before doing anything to the radio you have to replace all 4 speakers. Make sure you have the correct size fuses on the radio. Not just in the fuseblock but also check the 2 in-line holders by the radio.

If you can wait some months I'll have the time again to repair and update the Delorean radios, including new belt for the tape and MP3 input, european tuner chip...
