I saw this pic on Instagram. The poster says it is off the 101 in Langlois, Oregon. Curious to see if anyone knows the car/story. Such a shame....

This picture in a nutshell is why my argument of the accepted number of DeLoreans left is debatable. There just may indeed be 6,500 cars out there, but my argument of the number of cars out there that are either roadworthy or can be made roadworthy without a frame off restoration is much much less. I believe most of that 6,500 number takes into account cars like this.

Yeah Bing was an after-thought.

I spoke to a guy named Eric. He said the car is for sale for $20k. The VIN is 5081 and it's a 5 speed with Grey interior. He also said the dash and seats are cracked and need to be replaced. I believe he mentioned that he is buying those parts and having them installed. The car has between 15-20k miles. I don't remember what he said.

If we had a Google street view picture, we could have had an idea of how long the car has been there for. Unfortunately, we don't.

I left it off that he was going to be sending me pictures of the car. When I receive them, I will post them here.

Don't forget Google Earth has a time shift... The earliest image I could ID it in was from May 2013 s it's been there at least 3 years.

GAH! No way! At that point, yes, I would probably say that the car is a total loss given the financial money pit that it now is. Granted it might be easier with a DeLorean where you would rip the interior out (including the wood), power wash the underbody passenger compartment out, although I don't even know *what* kind of disinfectant would be safe to use given that fiberglass is porous, but you'd spray that. Then throw down a coat of paint or something to freshen up the appearance and seal off the smell of disinfectant & rotting flesh. And you'd still have to air-out the doors. But then you'd have to literally buy a completely all-new interior for the car, or create something totally custom.

This is also why if you're going to the junkyard to source used parts, before you open up cars, check the outside and make sure that no one has written "BIO" anywhere on it, and/or that there are no Biohazard warning stickers affixed anywhere.

I went to a junkyard to get seats for work once. The guy kept trying to sell us this seat he had bled all over. He cut himself cutting out the sunroof and got blood all over the passenger seat lol.

With proof that this car hasn't moved in about three years and a $20k price tag, this one may be a lost cause unfortunately.

Either way, it's been stored in a wet field for far longer than the manufacturer would recommend, if the manufacturer had envisioned such a type of long term storage. Although some might point out that stored on the dock in wet and windy Belfast is hardly ideal either......

Yeah, I'm afraid to see what the frame looks like on this car. Hopefully, the owner changes their mind and lets someone buy this car at a much more reasonable price so it can be restored and put back on the road.

Are you talking about the car from the beginning of this thread? If so, yes I spoke to the owner. He said the car is for sale for $20k. I provided the VIN and interior color and transmission type earlier in this thread. The seller was supposed to email me pictures of the car, but I haven't heard a response from him after sending two emails.

Ahh ok. Kinda got muddled on that...hehe. does the 20k include digging it out and delivery? lol. Just sitting in bushes like that, it seems rather high...unless it has gold panels and not stainless..hehe. If I knew exactly where it was, and if the owner would allow, I'd take a weekend and run down there myself. Even to see if it was a viable parts donor for mine.
