What a PITA. I managed to get the old motor out and as I did the window glass dropped to the bottom of the door off the runners. Trying to get them back on is really difficult. Then connected up the new motor to try it before fitting and it ran both ways initially now it will only go down and not the other direction, just clicks?
Any ideas?

How is it grounded? I've never replaced my window motors so I don't know the wiring. Does it ground through the motor body? If it does do you have it attached to the door?

There is no ground on the window motor directly. It has to be reversible so ground shifts as you select up or down.
The window is likely stuck partially off the track. Disconnect the glass from the motor track to verify that it's still working (I've not see one fail). You should be able to easily move the glass up and down by hand before you connect the motor to it.

Ok thanks to Dave the window off the guides issue is sorted. Now has anyone ever had experience of a window motor only winding one way while being bench tested??

Are you reversing your power and ground wires?
