Hi everyone. Just purchased an 83. Vin is 6861. The main problem is that I'm trying to get straightened out now is the fact that the key has been misplaced. Is there any way to know what the key code is based on the vin number?

Thanks

You can call DMC Texas and see if they have it on file.

Thanks for the help. I managed to find the article about the key codes written on the doors under the headliner. Pulled them off (they need to be recovered anyway) and there was the code. Gonna give DMC texas a call in the morning.

Thanks

Hi everyone. Just purchased an 83. Vin is 6861.

Welcome! Sounds like you've figured out how to get a key made for your car.

Side note, If it's an '83, do you mean VIN 16861?

George

Yep, that's what I meant.

Got it from a guy here in town who I've known for several years but never knew he owned the car. He owned several local businesses and had it setting in a storage locker. I'm sure I'll be on here a good bit trying to figure out numerous problems.

If you've got an old fashioned locksmith in town, he can make a key by wiggling a blank in the tumbler and filing away marks made by the tumblers. Takes about 5 minutes. Blank should be X29/Volvo.
