I found out today there's a DeLorean on display [near where I live] at the A&W in Lake George. From what I can see, I think it's been there for at least a month so I'm guessing it's not a rental.

Oddly, the car looks very accessible inside & out (aside from being on a display stand.) This week I'll get a look and get some pics & info.

Dark wheels and integrated pull straps? Might be an odds and ends car put together just for static display? Interested in seeing what else you find...

I've tried quite a few. I like the light taste and feel of A&W.
Hey , to each his own.

Visited the A&W tonite, took lot of pics, and spoke to one of the workers about the car. As suspected, it's the owners' car. He's also the cook and was unable to leave the kitchen for a visit; the parking lot was full so he was buried in burgers & fries, but sent his apologies and said he hopes we can chat next time. -Sounds like a nice guy.

The VIN is 6142, November 81 build (registered as an 81.) For a Northeast car, the frame is in pretty good shape...appears it hasn't seen much (if any) road salt, and looks like the rust spots that developed were hit with POR-15 pretty early.

The car is on display as part of the reopening of this business which burned down last year, then reopened last month. Plenty of press online about the fire & reopening. The owner is an older guy that has had the car a long time, and [after having a business burn down] wanted to "share" his D with customers and spread the smile factor it seems.

I thnk the dude has brass balls to have a fully accessible Delorean in the parking lot of a very busy tourist area.

The question of dark rims is easily answered as you'll see in the pics.

I have a bunch more pics if anyone is interested to see more. Boy, it would be great if every DeLorean for sale was parked on one of these mamba-jamba's....you can see everything!

I would see someone in the drivers seat for a photo and then climbing out through the passenger side and pushing down with their feet, clipping the stalk. I suspect that led to the "no climbing" sign, but fair play to the owner, he has still kept it on display and open for visitors/customers.

Mind you, I suspect Rich was the first visitor to take more pictures of the underneath than the outside :)

Nice pictures Rich, btw. Good job!!!

The burgers were very good....I'll pass on anything habanero -lol! BTW, this place is very near the BBQ place where we ate.

I heard a story of a guy putting two small children in the car with food & drinks (wow.) That likely prompted the sign.

haha...no doubt, thanks!

I hope to meet the owner soon, he sounds like a really nice guy. Seeing the spots on the frame and MC leak addressed before it's too late shows the guy appreciates the car and takes care of it. He's likely the original owner, so I'm very interested to hear of his experiences with the car. He's bringing a lot of smiles to the people (I mean: guys -lol) and I'm looking forward to getting 4728 on the road to pull in & put a smile on his face.

Nope, it's been that way for quite some time. Even Proto 1 after being sold was used in this exact same way outside of a Shakey's Pizza in Los Angeles. I have some photos of it in my archives.

Beauty! That lake side town would be a great place to be with this nice weather of late!

I bet you're right. When those stalks get whacked, they definitely bend!

Has anyone ever sucessfully bent their turn signal (or wiper) stalk back to position without it kinking? My turn signal stalk is bent forward so I have to reach extra far with my fingers to reach. I'm afraid if I attempt to bend it back It'll kink, snap off, break the guts inside, etc.

My plan would be to try and hold the base of the stalk with some vice grips and bend the rest of it forward by hand. I'm thinking and old rag or a piece of cardboard would stop the vice grips from damaging the black finish.

I sure hope he takes it home at night. That is one nice delorean and would be a shame to see it damaged by a retard, weather or even get stolen!

Try Hansen's... it will change your life.
Also the beer company Weinhard's used to make a great one... haven't had one in years so I can't say if the quality stayed when they were bought by Strohs.

Cheers

I haven't tried hansens, but I have had the microbrew root beer (can't remember the name but it came in a metal barrell mini keg) and I don't care for it much.

I actually got to drive my car for the first time in about a month...... I've been working 12-16 hour days. Tonite I took my nephew [visiting from Colorado] for a ride. He never saw a DeLorean before, so we drove my car to Lake George and I showed him the A&W DeLorean; he got a ride in a DeLorean, and saw two at once....he loved it:

I met with the owner while we were there, he's a really nice guy. He's usually very busy working, but we arrived at closing time and he was available. He mentioned that he's not the original owner, he bought the car from someone in PA. about 10 years ago.

Happy to hear you were able to talk to the owner. When I was in Lake George two weeks ago, the owner was too busy to talk.

He's the owner & the cook, I've been there a bunch of times but he's always backed up with orders so he's usually shackled to the grill.

Really nice guy, I had some trouble starting and he was going to leave me a jump-pack as he left (in case I needed it.)

Nice encounter Rich.

Your nephew must have been all "wait, I'm in a DeLorean, yet I can see a DeLorean" :worship:

Fav uncle eVar.

Unless he's like 25, in which case it would just be weird :)

sorry to bring up an old thread but thank you to who ever posted this. This is actually my old car, it took me about 4 years to restore and i dont miss that car at all.

i see a lot of things id have done differently and it still had a cold start issue when i sold it. nearly everything was replaced on it. the drivers door didnt shut all that great and i got a lot of crap for mixing early vin and late vin stuff on it because that was what i just ended up liking. i love the late vin ashtray and shifter but if you look its got an early vin felt change holder.

heres some pics of this car when i had it.

The more I see dark wheels, the more I like them. Gives the car a different personality.
