View Full Version : General LED Conversion: Leaving 1 Incandescent Bulb for Alternator?! Fix?

Hey guys, I've recently converted my car to LEDs all around and updated the headlights to Sylvania halogens. My question is for the one bulb in the dash that must remain incandescent. From what I understand the original
bulb has resistance that allows the car to start. Every time this bulb goes we have to go in the dash and replace it so the car battery won't drain.

Has anyone done a fix for this? Wire in a resistor in series or parallel...or anything else? Curious as I'd like to do it but need a little help.

Thanks!

Damn phone, but honestly that light bulb is only lit for a few seconds and I wouldn't even worry about it. My car still has the original incandescent bulb in it but I replaced it with a new one when I converted my car to LEDs. But thats just me.

I bought a few incandescents just in case, but there has to be a fix to this; however, I don't know of anyone making a kit or anything for it? If not, is there a homemade solution maybe?

Martin Gutkowski offers an alternator that allows for a LED to be used in the charging system warning socket: http://www.delorean.co.uk/parts.html

I have never run this alternator or know of a car equipped with it but this may a solution to your conundrum. Good Luck!
