Rerouting engine harness

I have seen people reroute their engine harness so it won't be in the middle. I wanna do the same.

That's a picture of my engine when I first bought my car. Everything is off my engine now, gonna start putting it together.

Hows the best way to reroute the harness??

Easy way (not so cheap) - Order the revised harness from DMC. You get nice new flexible wiring and it's about 90% plug and play. You will need to remove the intake manifold to install it.

Three parts:
110185 Engine Harness (1)
110093 Jumper (you need 2)
The new harness will be missing the two white shells for the full throttle microswitches. Sorry but that's how they come. Use the old ones or plug the wires together without the shells.
The two jumpers replace all the heavy brown wires. On jumper goes from the alternator to the starter, the other one from the "jump start post" to the post on the wiring bulkhead.

OR

Hard way (cheap)
Unwrap all that black tape, move everything, (remove the heavy brown wires) and then re-wrap it with non-stick harness tape. DO NOT use normal electrical tape, after it gets hot a few times you end up with a mess. Get the kind make for making harnesses.

You still need the two jumpers, can be made up at home if you are handy with such things.

For the second way you may not need to remove the intake manifold but it may be easier if you at least remove the center section.

I managed to run my harness under the metering unit with no issues.

I did the unwrap and re-rout wires option. The OEM wires are very stiff from age so it takes a little care getting things untangled. You just run the brown wires, alternator and oil pressure wires near the passenger side.

If you're going to reroute the harness, why leave it over a hot engine? It is best to remove redundant wiring and route the alternator, thermo time switch, and micro switches along the passenger side pontoon. This obviously shortens the alternator wiring, which is good thing for our cars. You should use wire loom, not tape as it makes troubleshooting easier in the future.

While you're in there, you should also install some waterproof connectors where possible.

A lot of work to move the harness. If you rewrap you can buy the tape at any large electrical supply house (no adhesive) or Eastwood. Also refer to ST-15-10/81 for improved harness fastening. If you do reroute observe the typical precautions, stay away form moving parts, sharp edges and hot surfaces. Keep in mind some of the wires are not protected, ie, they are not fused like the brown alternator wires. For some strange reason they did not include a fusible link as on most cars. The whole wiring system of the Delorean could use a LOT of improvement!
