Anyone know the story / history behind this car? Looks very clean.

1k miles. Doubt it. Seat skins are not original. Switches are bleached. Rebuilt title. Me thinks it could be more like 101k miles..... or it sat in the sub for a long time.

Interesting.

It is this car, 03935

but at the time it had 4500 miles on it. Possibly had a rebuilt title at the time, but has clearly been restored.

Good catch Dermot. Wow, this car goes back to our .com days. Whoever restored it knowingly rolled back the odometer.

Wow, is there really a difference in a 4,500 mile car and a 1,646 mile car; enough so to risk odometer fraud?? I could understand the logic behind rolling 45,000 back to 16,460 but to knock off just 2800 miles? Weird...

How did you draw that conclusion? I don't see a VIN anywhere in the craigslist posting. I assume you contacted the seller?

I have such an odd affinity for red DeLoreans with black interiors. Such a sharp looking combination.

The address in the CL ad matches the Used Car Motor Mall or Grand Rapids which has a red D in it's inventory, along with a VIN.

The silver toggle switch in the center console and the HUBFord tag in the trunk confirm it.

Now, do you have any missing pets you need found :hihi:

I'm missing a friend. He wears a striped red and white sweater, matching cap and big black glasses. Has a knack for getting himself into tight, crowded situations. Goes by the name Waldo....

I emailed the GR motormall this:

Hello,

Just emailing to make you aware the the mileage you have listed on the Delorean for sale here:

http://motormallofgr.net/1981-DeLorean-DMC12/Used-Car/GrandRapids-MI/7218566/Details.aspx

is incorrect. This car has been for sale previously on various DMC websites with higher mileage reported than what you have listed.

You think it might have been unintentional odometer fraud, so to speak? Like if a faulty speedo gauge got replaced with a new one that started at 0,000, or maybe someone was in there replacing a broken trip rest shaft and a couple numbers got turned accidently, so the solution was to roll it back to zero? I'm with you on it not making any sense to purposely go back a couple thousand when it was only 4,500 in the first place.
