Hi,

Does anyone know of a faster wiper motor? I removed mine by making an access hole in the fuel filler area, and by the looks, maybe even a Saturn motor will work...

I also need to know the rpm of the factory DeLorean wiper motor for comparison.

Thanks

My wipers are also slow in comparison to more modern cars. I've found that using Rain-X helps a lot with clearing water... The extreme rake of the windshield makes it work extremely well. That being said, I try not to drive my car in the rain much if I can help it so I've just learned to live with the slow wipers.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has ever swapped out the motor though, I can't say I've ever read about it before.

2 things:

- have you ever seen another DeLorean's wipers in action for comparison? Maybe yours aren't any slower than normal?

- is your delay function working? There is a slow and a fast and an.... occasional. The delay timing is very odd compared to new cars. Again, compare yours to another D owner's car and see if it is "normal."

(...or someone on here could make a quick video of their own for all of our viewing enjoyment. Sort of like the horn comparison videos we've seen.)

Someone should take a video of their wipers on speed 1, then 2. They should also, keep the engine, radio, and all other accessories off.

Today, I did a mod with my motor. I remove the screws and the small, threaded retaining plate that is usually located in the hole pictured. Extending that hole on each side will allow the outer magnets to be rotated counter clockwise, resulting in a faster wiper motor.

The result is this...

Oh, and that is with no voltage from the alternator...

Another thing to watch out for - if the wiper arms are tightened down too much via the nut, it will cause your wipers to go extremely slow as well.

I also need to know the rpm of the factory DeLorean wiper motor for comparison.

Here is data from our early-VIN car that may be at least as useful as what you asked for. This is a "no load" wiper speed for comparison. Am not saying they all run this fast, only that ours runs this fast.

Test method and condition:

- Both wipers in raised position (pulled away from the windshield as if cleaning the glass thus no friction from wiper blades on dry glass)
- Engine idling in neutral, 800RPM
- 14.1V measured across jump start post and engine ground as a reference, your voltage could vary

Results:
Low wiper cycle rate: 42 full wipe cycles per min.
High wiper cycle rate: 66 full wipe cycles per min.

Thank you, but unfortunately, my comparison will have to wait until my car gets back together...

Also, I adjusted the motor even faster today, and I also made sure the wipers were not over torqued. This all resulted in a noticeable faster wipe, especially when some water was applied to the windscreen.
