Hot water valve

Greetings everyone,

The restoration of 10985 in NZ is coming along very well, I am now re-assembling all the engine ancillaries.

2 questions here, the first one is what plugs in to the hot water valve? (see attached image) I assume a vacuum hose to somewhere? I do have a tiny black pipe with an external diameter of 3mm, that has an adapter on it to the correct size of the hot water valve, does that sound like the right thing?

Also, has anyone else had a replacement engine harness from DMC? if so, are your wires different colours? I've been having a hell of a job connecting my harness up as none of the wires seem to match the schematic. I've even compared the specific plugs side by side with my old harness and the wires going into the plugs are different colours.

There should be a vacuum hose (hard black plastic about 3mm diameter) with a short rubber jumper to fit that valve. It comes out of the pontoon on the left side.

I've installed a bunch of DMC harnesses and they connect right with a couple of notes. Except as noted all the connections are the same as the old one.

--The harness is a 1983 design, and does not include the heavy wire from the alternator to the firewall. Than needs to be replaced by a heavy jumper from the "jump start" post to the bulkhead feed-through. There needs to be a second jumper from the alternator to the starter (still in the harness you removed). There is a factory part number 110093 for the jumper but a piece of #4 or so wire properly terminated will work.

--The green/black wires on top that connect to the full throttle microswitch(es) will be missing the plastic shell. You are supposed to use the old one over. If it's melted make up some new push-on connectors.

--The routing of the harness is completely different. It runs down either side of the intake manifold, i.e. very hidden compared to the 1981 design that runs over the top.

If this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll see if I have any photos laying around.

Might be a while. I don't have any pictures of it categorized yet, which means it's on my "cameral roll" of a few thousand pictures. I have my own car set up the same way but I re-wrapped the early harness rather than installing a new one (I was cheap like that when I first built up my car).

haha in that case I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure between your notes above, comparing plugs with the old harness/schematic and looking at pics on the net, I should be ok. Thanks for your help :)
