View Full Version : Frame & Body Trunk lid hinge
Hi fellas, quick question... if I remove these four bolts, will the trunk hinge come off? I currently have the trunk lid off to paint the inside of the compartment and I'm considering stainless hinges.

I would think yep. I otta pull mine and repaint them while I have the luggage hood off...hehe.
I can see why DPI Josh likes his stainless. That man is on to a winner! :thumbup2:
I'm going round and swapping all the nuts and bolts I can for stainless ones. Sick of seeing the dreaded rust.

Just be careful with that. A stainless bolt screwed into aluminum is forever.

Would it be OK with copper grease though?
I also bought some aluminum rivnuts for the trunk access covers but I'll ditch them for stainless ones.

Any stainless screws, even into other stainless, should use anti-seize compound.
http://www.totallystainless.com/faq.html is a good reference on this. They used to have a cool T-shirt too.

Or change your metal access panel screws to nylon screws. That's what I did and they come out without drama every time! You can get a pack of 100 from Amazon for around $7 or so.
