Took the car on a 90 mile drive last night and as always the temperature gauge never goes above the first line. Looks like the 7 o'clock position.

When I got home I popped the engine cover and used a digital infrared thermometer and shot the temps of both the left and right hoses while the engine was still running. Both cooling fans were on and the right side hose (closest to the coolant bottle) read 168 degrees. The left side hose +that passes in front of the air conditioning compressor) read 196 degrees.

Are these numbers in line with standard operating temperatures?

Sounds perfect to me. I would say your gauge/sending unit is inaccurate, though.

I second this... Though no two DeLorean ever read the same running temp at the dash you should see some fluctuations. When I'm siting in traffic on an 80 degree day the temp climbs to near the 9:00 position and the fans kick on. Other DeLorean fans come on sooner than this in my experience. The fact that your fans are cycling but your temp gauge never moves above the firs tick tells me something is wrong with the gauge or the sensor.

Cheers
