After 16 years of ownership I am selling my DeLorean. VIN #1410 (May 1981), 5-speed manual, black interior, hood with gas flap, 99% original stock configuration, in excellent running condition with only 19,770 miles.
I am the 3rd owner and the car has been garaged for its entire history. Since I bought it in 2000, I have kept it extremely clean and as close to factory specs as possible. It drives very well, has a lot of power on tap and constantly turns heads wherever I go. Colorado being a dry state, the car has no rust. Being garaged it has no sun damaged. This year I sent the fuel system to be rebuilt by John Hervey, then I brought the car in for fine tuning by European Performance Specialists in Colorado Springs. They also flushed the brakes and clutch and replenished the AC with R12.
These are things that I have done in the past 16 years. I am an amateur mechanic and I have only done these things after copious research and preparation:
1. Cooling system flush
2. Added water pump air bleeder tube
3. Replaced fuel accumulator
4. Replaced spark plugs (now with Bosch 4-way plugs)
5. Replaced spark plug wires
6. Replaced distributor cap and rotor
7. Oil/oil filter change
8. New battery
9. Rebuilt the air circulator fan
10. Added new stainless steel fuel lines
These have been professionally done:
1. Rebuild of Bosch CIS fuel distributor and other fuel system components
2. Injector cleaning
3. Fuel system reset
4. AC replenish
5. Clutch and brake flush/fill and test
She is really fun to drive and the stainless steel shines even in dim light. This DeLorean has two features that make it visually unique from others: the black stripes on the sides were put on in the factory and accentuate her looks (people say she looks like a crouching tiger). Also, there is an "Ireland" seal on the license plate cover as well as a "DMC Club of California" seal with the VIN etched into it. (I'm not sure but I think the first owner lived and drove in California before the car arrived in Colorado in the late 80's.)
These are the extant issues with the car:
1. Radio does not power on (it's a 90's radio with a fuse in back). The radio has to turn on before the auto-extend antenna will deploy - the antenna does work though.
2. The pin used to reset the trip odometer is snapped off just below the clear plastic.
3. There is a small tear in the trim leather on the driver side door - see pic.
4. There is some discoloration of the carpet next to the battery compartment.
5. Headliners are falling down.
6. There are three tiny dings in the stainless steel - front and back driver side wheel wells and passenger side door. They are so small that I would have to point these spots out to you before you would even notice them.
7. There is a vacuum leak somewhere that sometimes causes a mild whistling while driving.
8. I just discovered a small coolant leak coming from the heater control valve - I have ordered a replacement and it will go in soon.
My asking price is $29,000. I am located in Colorado Springs, CO.
The pictures speak for themselves:
