How to remove the small light socket in the AC panel

Hi guys, I'm trying to fully remove the small white light sockets on the AC panel. Any tips? It seems like the red/metal center piece should pull out of the white bezel piece but I can't figure out how to get it done.

I think mine were black sockets that pushed out from the back side. It's been a while since I removed them.

The sockets push out through the back leaving the white part in place. If you really want the white part out, push it out from the back after removing the socket.

No. You cut the 3 socket tubes out for the fan fail, door locks and rear defroster because they sit inside the cut out in the radio plate. There are 7 light sockets that get cut out next and then you wet sand down the white painted light paths that reflect the incandescent light so the leds can shine through. You can down load his instructions and this mod is very very easy! Also as a added and great safety bonus, if you have Dave's fan fail relay and the fused fan fail switch along with the LED board, the 4 speed fan logo on the front panel lights up a different color to let you know both cooling fans are on! I have the blue LED board so fan logo would be green. If you have the green board then its blue. You remove the sockets so the circuit board will sit flat on the metal plate.

These pictures are from last fall. Like i said and no BS, it really is a simple mod that not only looks great, but also doesnt burn out the overlay if you used the regular led plug in bulbs. The kit is just over $100 dollars and comes with everything minus the fan fail stuff i mentioned.

I will be doing Dave's AC panel upgrade eventually but first I need to get my console to fit together properly. I think that the metal box holding all the stuff (including these light sockets) is bent or something and I'm considering buying the "Faceplate DIN Radio (http://store.delorean.com/p-7793-face-plate-din-radio.aspx)" piece that DeLorean.com sells to try to remedy this. In order to swap out my metal box with the new one, I need to remove the light sockets and looking at them I can't see how they come apart.

For the time being the only way I've been able to make the black clock plate sorta fit is to shove some blocks of wood underneath my metal radio box. Even with those in place it still doesn't fit together nicely. :(

This is what the car looks like right now with the blocks of wood in place. I did not want to install the black clock plate without the blocks of wood because it wants to pull the AC panel away from the metal box backing. You can see that it doesn't sit correctly because you can see the area that should be covered by knobs:

Man that sucks! I had kind of the same issue with mine with fitment and it was with the radio plate not lining up well with the reupholstered center console piece and what I did to remedy that what is to stick a few nuts at the very top where it screws into the dashboard the kind of blow it out slightly because there was a big gap between the center dash vents and the outer edge of the console and it wasn't sitting flush. Has your knobs always stuck out that far since you own the car?

Yeah, I've been trying to fix this problem for the last few months. I got the car in June. Your idea of using a few nuts at the top is a good cheap idea. I'll try that out before I buy the new box for sure!

There is a mod that doesn't cost anything. You remove the third relay from the left, top row and stick a jumper into the bottom slot and the right slot. Now the panel is only lit up when you turn on the lights. This will save the panel from a lot of excess heat. You can do it with LED's too. From the DML 11/13/95 Thanks to Chris.

It is a cheap thing to do. Dave T os right and thought you might have known of that mod as i came into this thread late. Just use 2 spade connectors and some 12/14 ga wire and you will be good to go. Like Dave said, the hvac panel will only light up when you first turn on your lights.
