Your world tour is intriguing! What is your proposed route? I check out your site and didn't seen one. Maybe worthy of a new thread?

What is your proposed route? I check out your site and didn't seen one. Maybe worthy of a new thread?

Variante 1:

Bavaria, Austria, Liechtenstein, Suisse, Italy, Tunesia, Libyen, Egypt, Israel, Jordania, Saudi Arabia, Kuweit, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Oman, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Hawaii, Canada, USA, Mexico, Island, Norway, Finland, Sweden, England, Scotland, Irland, Netherland, Belgium, Germany, Bavaria,

Variante 2:

Bavaria, Austria, Liechtenstein, Suisse, Italy, Tunesia, Libyen, Egypt, Israel, Jordania, Saudi Arabia, Kuweit, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Oman, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Hawaii, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, USA, Island, Norway, Finland, Sweden, England, Scotland, Irland, Netherland, Belgium, Germany, Bavaria,

The route traversed and the countries may vary due to timing, political conditions, entry requirements and even shipping connections.

Preferred route:
Germany - Austria - Liechtenstein - Switzerland - Italy - Tunisia - Libya - Egypt - Jordan - Saudi Arabia - Bahrain - Qatar - Abu Dhabi - Dubai - Iran - Pakistan - India - Nepal - China - Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore - Australia - Canada - USA - Iceland - Norway - Finland - Sweden - Denmark - England - Scotland - Northern Irland

According to the curren political situation, (no Libya and Syria), the route would look like this:
Germany - Austria - Liechtenstein - Switzerland - Italy - Greece - Turkey - Iran - Pakistan - India - Nepal - China - Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore - Australia - Canada - USA - Iceland - Norway - Finland - Sweden - Denmark - England - Scotland - Northern Ireland

If China refuses or there will be snow-chaos in the Himalayas:
Germany - Austria - Liechtenstein - Switzerland - Italy - Tunisia - Libya - Egypt - Jordan - Saudi Arabia - Bahrain - Qatar - Abu Dhabi - Dubai - Iran - Pakistan - India - Australia - Canada - USA - Iceland - Norway - Finland - Sweden - Denmark - England - Scotland - Northern Ireland

If time is running out to the end:
Germany - Austria - Liechtenstein - Switzerland - Italy - Tunisia - Libya - Egypt - Jordan - Saudi Arabia - Bahrain - Qatar - Abu Dhabi - Dubai - Iran - Pakistan - India - Nepal - China - Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore - Australia - Canada - USA - Ireland - Northern Ireland

...or a combination of the different variations. Flexibility is king!

Wolfgang and his team did the "Tour de France" these past few days.
He visited some French owners.
Yesterday, he went trough the city of "Lyon" which is about 1 hour driving from my home.
So, we were able to meet each other at a friend's house.
Thought I would share a few picture of the day.

Is this the start of the world tour, or was this just a practice day-trip?

Three cars and a support G-wagen?

That was their last stop in France before going back to Germany.
They came across the entire country.
4 DeLorean and the Mercedes to carries some spares.

Great Scott!
Around the world in a D eh? Very interesting. It is a very comfortable car for such a task.
Why did they put on a different set of wheels?

Well I wish you guys a safe trip and hassle free. If Syria is blocked I will be VERY happy to meet you in Greece. Sorry I am the only delorean owner here... So no big D parade.
I am German however so communication is no issue.

It will be a pleasure to finally meet you Deloman!:thumbup2:

Nice pics Domi.

Is this the start of the world tour, or was this just a practice day-trip?

Three cars and a support G-wagen?

This was just a practice. 5000 km / 3100 miles within 10 days around France. This will be followed in 2014 by a practice with about 6700 km / 4200 miles around Spain and Portugal within 15-20 days. In 2015 a practice with 7000 km / 4400 miles around Scandinavia within 15 to 21 days will follow. The World Tour then will start in 2015 and will end in 2016 at the Eurofest 2016 in Belfast.

<snip>...

Why did they put on a different set of wheels?

<snip>...

It is easier to get a replacement wheel or rim when you are using commonly available parts. And you only have to take one kind of extra wheels with you. Remember that the world tour will go through countries like Pakistan and India.

This is really cool. I'm excited to follow the news and progress on this. I perused your website but didn't see where your stops in the USA were.

My 2 cents --> Avoid these locations: Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia. You already mentioned avoiding Libya & Syria. I would be really careful in this region in general. Of course this is coming from someone who's dad was stuck in Iran back in 1979. Be SUPER careful. I guess the larger your entourage is, the better off you'll be. Still though, I'd be looking for alternate routes.

That is very practical! Good forward thinking.

But in that thought, I would go around the world on a 190 Mercedes (diesel preferably) !:)
That car lives globally and is still king in those countries.

Germany, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, UAE, India, Nepal, China, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Canada, USA, Netherlands, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland

Tour starts on Sept. 1 in 2015 in Germany and will finish at Eurofest Belfast 2016

Last test of our three World-Tour DeLoreans will be a tour in May 2015: Germany, Denmark, Norway, Polar-Cirlce, Sweden and back to Germany from May 8th to May 20 in 2015.

The delorean is so world-wide that I think that if you pass thru a war zone with three of them, every single soldier will stop fighting and shooting and throw bombs just to stare at the cars!

And over 194,000 miles on my D agree.

The main problem with DeLoreans and reliability is that most let their cars sit and/or only drive them once every few months. Then when they go to sell them they need alot of work done to get them back running properly and reliably. Get out and drive, maintain them, they are reliable!

They have been quiet, too quiet...

after a short 600 mile drive down to the port of Banda Abbas in Iran, they seem to take a ferry to Dubai, where they have been loaded into a container, on 9/27, (the cars that is, not the guys) and should have departed for India on Saturday 10/3. Back on the "road" on 10/8

http://www.deloreanworldtour.com/cms/images/klaus.steiner/p9270457_eb4cd0b22577d561801eb6f613c65940.jpg

Long story short - I ran into an old High School friend of Tamir this Summer at a BTTF themed Charity Event and he said he wanted to publish an interesting, unusual DeLorean article.
Well, there is nothing more out of the ordinary than driving a set of DeLoreans around the world, so I forwarded the author some links and trip details last month, to help with content.

After seeing the recent "DeLorean in a Game" review article by the author's company (Polygon) this Monday, I gave the author an email "bump" on Tuesday, and here is the article:

http://www.polygon.com/2015/10/14/9455887/why-are-these-men-driving-their-deloreans-through-iran

Of course, I asked him to include a plug for the DeLorean Convention and Show (DCS 2016) and for the Raffle Car (one week until the drawing), so I'm glad it was published today.

Note: Inspiration for the article came after seeing the post (and photos) from Klaus, posted in this thread on September 15, 2015: The first three Delorean in Iran ever

What incredible pictures.... they piqued my interest enough to finally check out the website. I'm really surprised all of those cars are automatics! I would have thought from a fuel economy, reliability, and drivability (in adverse road conditions, especially) standpoint that they would have chosen manual DeLoreans. I guess comfort won out, though- can't blame them! I really dig their exhaust solution, too- simple, elegant, with a focus on being quiet. I wonder what these guys plan on doing with their cars when they return? Will they be kept as-is, or returned to a more stock form?

To me it was also surprising that Wolfgang choosed automatics. But he said, it was just a question of maintenance. It is easier to fix a broken automatic gearbox than a broken manual gearbox.
I don't know exactly what they will do with the cars after the tour. But they will not be returned to stock form. If you have a look at the home page, you can see in section "Fahrzeuge" how these cars looked like, when they have been bought for this project. They had been in bad shape and have been restored and modified/enhanced for their world trip. Bringing them back to "stock form" makes no sense.

Yeah, it was only light hearted fun, but creeping along dirt roads isn't what the Ozzie pic implies. We're talking about beautiful sweeping, driving roads (with high drop offs), best to stick to the flat-straight outback! Lol.

I think these guys are looking for a reason to use their "Himalaya Switches", since they did not have a chance to test them in the Himalayas,
due to the roads that were damaged by the earthquake and after-shocks, mandating a re-route of the World Tour, even before it started.

Text below is from the DeLorean World Tour website - News page:

With the "Himalaya-Switch" we select the method of the fuel pressure control. LOW (below) stands for automatic fuel pressure regulation (to about 3000m above sea level)
and HIGH (above) for manual control. The pressure regulator together with pressure gauge and adjustment knob will find a place right on the center console.

That's... not exactly accurate. In fact, it's an over-complication for the sole purpose of trying to make a joke. :) The actual German word for "science" is wißenschaft. "Naturwißenschaften" roughly translates to "science of nature."

Seems like that area of Australia (or possibly all of it) have strict laws on quarantine to prevent anything being brought in that may damage the flora and fauna. Nothing to do with being "impounded by the Police" nor being "unroadworthy". Most likely they picked up some unwanted hitch-hikker insects in Asia

They are almost out of Sydney and yes, they got to Melbourne. The cars are ready to go to Vancouver BC while the team takes a break in Germany.

Their travel blog says they enjoyed connecting with a local D owner, John Frisina. http://www.deloreanworldtour.com/

These blog entries read from the most recent at the top:

12/18/2015 Sydney (Australia)

Yesterday evening we received the message of our Shipping-Agent here in Sydney that the Delorean must be delivered today at the warehouse for container shipping. For days we had not received any information, despite requests, suddenly everything has to happen quickly. OK, so in the evening we sorted our equipment and everything we do not take back with us to Germany was stowed in the car.

This morning we had first a stop at the car wash to wash the dust and mud of Australia of the cars, because when imported into Canada the cars have to be tidy and clean.

Then we went to CargoTransport at the port, where we were already expected. We parked the DeLorean in the hall, because the container had not been on the spot, the car documents we left at the Office.

In the afternoon we received the documents inspected by customs back, Monday morning the container loading takes place and the journey across the Pacific to Vancouver begins.
We booked our flight home to Germany for Tuesday, 12/22/2015, then we fly over Hong Kong to Frankfurt.

Once again we must thank John Frisina, he arranged our return trip from the harbor to the hotel, picked up the finished customs documents for cargo transport in the afternoon and showed us later that evening Sydney at night. Thank you very much, John!

Day 104

Created on Thursday, 17 December 2015 10:35

12/17/2015 Sydney (Australia)

Together with John Frisina as a guide, we started at half past twelve for sightseeing in Sydney. He is very familiar in the city and led us to some lookouts with fantastic views of opera, Harbour Bridge and the city skyline.

After the cars are on the way to Iceland (shipping from Portland, Maine, April 15), we make a 2 week trip along the east coast (Gettysburg, Washington DC, Virginia Beach, NYC) with a rental car and we will stay in NYC again for 2 or 3 days before we fly to Iceland on May 3rd.

A word of advice: When driving out on the Highway, there usually is a pretty good 10 MPH buffer. BUT, when you come to a small town or village, make sure that you do NOT exceed the speed limit! Those towns are just speed traps here. You also probably know this already, but NEVER bribe an American police officer.

If you cross over into Tijuana, be prepared for a long wait to come back into the U.S.

If you get the chance to go to Death Valley, you probably will want to go. Right now it's starting a "Super Bloom" Only happens every 10 years at the most, but very rare. Only occurs after wet winters full of heavy rains. The entire desert is covered in flowers. I don't know if you'll be going through Pahrump between Vegas and Death Valley, but if you are, here's a nice treat: https://www.chinaranch.com

Looks like you're traveling I-10 from Phoenix to Houston. In Texas you'll hit the US. Border Patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca. Since you've got plates from another country, be prepared for another inspection.

There's allot of cool stuff ahead of you too that you'll see on the road!

A lovely and memorable day was shared here in San Francisco by the intrepid DeLorean World Tour team and local (NCDMC) DeLorean owners together!

The California sun came out on Saturday, 27-Feb so San Francisco could sparkle for our world-touring new friends as they spent a full day with several Northern California DeLorean Club members enjoying the sights, roads and comradery in the City by the Bay. We encourage all DeLorean-heads to seek out our the DWTour team as they make their way around the world. I dare anyone to find three more friendly, energetic and excited "DeLorean ambassadors" than Klaus, Wolfgang and Andre!

Gathering mid-morning at Marina Green Park with DWTour team plus their West Coast friend, Oliver, the group of 6 DeLoreans with DWTour machines escorted in the middle set out directly for the Marin Headlands to view back over the Golden Gate Bridge and The City:
402204023340247402484024940250

A scenic detour behind the mountains led to an historic military tunnel for our return back across the GG Bridge so that we could park close up to and beneath….the sunny side of the Golden Gate Bridge. There was a slight delay en route, but no damage done.

402224023440235402464024240245

Crowds and photo ops abounded for some time before we crossed to Ocean Beach for a beachside lunch break followed by a lengthy tech inspection of DWTour’s purpose-built machines. Quite impressive and, again, a magnet for passers-by:

402234023640237402384023940240

From there it was on to the geographic center of SF, Twin Peaks, with clear vistas in 3 directions, before jamming down some twisty roads toward the freeway that jetted us to a photo session and coffee break next to the Bay Bridge:

402414022440251

For “dessert” 6 DeLoreans weaved through downtown, past the cable cars and then all in a row ran the “Lombard Street Slalom”, our anti-Nurburgring here, just at dusk. Check the smiling faces that Mark clearly captured:

4022540226402274022840229402194023140230

Massive thanks to Mark W. for planning, co-driving and coordination. Plus terrific photos he and Brian submitted*. Owners and co-drivers included Rich, Mark, Christian, Melissa, Eric, Rob, Kathy, Brian and Tulani. Truly a memorable day, literally all around San Francisco together with Klaus, Wolfgang, Andre and Oliver.

Thanks for the photo sets!

India sounds challenging. One day they were in their saddles for 11 hrs of driving there. From what they mentioned during their day in San Francisco their main altercation in the trip so far was in India when a motorcylist managed to sideswipe the passenger side of Wolfgang's D, tearing off the rearview mirror and caving the door panel as well as rearranging some surfaces of the quarter panel, esp. the rear of the wheel arch.

They replaced the mirror, of course. It's surprising how hard it is to spot the body damage since these modified cars have so much else to offer at first glance.

Looks like they're really booking up through the Navajo Rez towards Utah. Which is my guess that they'll probably come down into the valley from I-15 North by way of St. George, down through the Virgin River Canyon. Across Lake Powell and up towards Kanab is the best bet to get to Vegas, and it's what I'd bet they're going to do. Though a short detour through Zion would make for some really nice photos. As would the Valley of Fire.

Charleston through Red Rock Canyon and onto Death Valley would also be a great trip too right now.

(I will load many pictures soon to our Texas DeLorean Club (http://www.txdmc.org)local web page gallery, and so in order to not post duplicates, I won't upload them here. But I wanted to post these comments let the community know that the DWT arrived in Houston Thursday mid-day safely, and left early this morning, bound for Mississippi. We had a great time with them, lots of stories, photos and some good food. And so now, we pass them off to our friends in Florida. -- Thomas)

The DeLorean World Tour team arrived in Houston (specifically the DMC-Texas facility in Humble), driving their three stock, but slightly modified DeLoreans. Wolfgang Hank, Klaus Steiner and Andre Springer where the three driving team members, while Sven Sabrowski and others back in Germany took care of travel logistics.

In Humble, after initial introductions were all put to rest, there was a time for Wolfgang, Klaus and Andre to answer lots of questions about their adventure, and the numerous questions about their specially marked cars. Since we here in Houston were not anywhere near their first stop, I know the world tour team has answered the same questions over-and-over-and-over again. We appreciated their patience with our seemingly endless questions about the stock.

Next, Stephen Wynne and James Espey personally led the driving team on a warehouse tour of the Humble facility. Rows and rows of fenders, doors, engines, transmissions, glass, and about a ga-zillion parts of every size and shape where seen. While Wolfgang was mostly discussing technical issues, Klaus could be seen off by himself at times taking pictures of the rows and rows of parts and inventory.

After the warehouse tour and lots of shop talk, there was time to take a load off, sit down and do some serious story telling. Wolfgang wowed us with stories about the intricacies of getting through customs in various countries, where they had trouble, and where they sailed through. Klaus told me that, surprisingly, they had a difficult time getting clearance getting through the border from Canada into the United States. While not usually difficult, Klaus explained that they had to declare that they had been in Iran recently, and this raised a red flag to the border officials, and some significant paperwork had to be done, or re-done, for the team to finally gain clearance.

The DWT team’s second day here was a chance for them to meet the local DeLorean club. DMC-Texas, as many times in the past, again showed their willingness to support the local club by allowing us to meet, congregate, loiter, malinger, chat, and take lots of pictures at their facility. Many thanks to Stephen, James, Sarah, Bill and the others, for your generous hospitality, and putting up with the local DeLorean geeks citizens again and again.

So after more introductions, story telling, and photography, we caravanned to the Humble City Café for informal dinner, where we could all unwind, and talk more DeLorean stuff.

Early morning, the team departs Houston, heading east for Mississippi, and then on to Florida. Much discussion occurred about a detour from Interstate-10, their original preferred route, because of recent rainfall causing flooding and roadway washout along the Texas-Louisiana border, which will add hours to their trip east.

Good luck gentlemen, safe travels, and God’s speed. We feel we have made new friends for life. Thank you, we are honored to have you visit us!

I met the team today, I was a little slow on getting to DMCMW on time so I arrived when everyone was leaving, but I followed everyone, creepy-style, to Lou Malnatis for some deep dish.

When I arrived I took everyone's photo next to the DeLoreans and chatted inside.

When I left I coincidentally met the old couple of the mustang and told them about the cars and mission and some of the stories I had just heard.

Congrats to the DWT Team for hitting the 23,000 mile mark in the Midwest, somewhere between Indianapolis, IN and Springfield, IL.

I would also like to thank Klaus, Andre and Wolfgang for "humoring us" by answering questions they have obviously been asked
numerous times over the past 8 months and now 24,000 miles (after reaching the Washington DC area earlier today).

The DWT Team certainly got a Taste of Midwest Spring over the course of a few days, ranging from downpours and hail on Thursday,
to rain/snow mix on Friday, to near white-out snowing conditions on Saturday and Sunday, before getting relief on the East Coast.

I have to admit that Saturday's weather was extremely unusual, with bands of snow interspersed with pockets of bright sunshine,
repeating over and over throughout the day. While the driving was a bit challenging near Chicago and through Indiana, it then got
downright dangerous just past Kalamazoo (on I-94), when the wind began gusting from the North at over 70 mph. Two really bad
semi trucks vs. cars accidents on I-94 near MM90 had the highway shut down for quite some time, with over a 6 mile back-up.
This is when the DWT Team decided to cancel the remainder of the Troy, MI trip, exit onto I-69 South [at MM108] and try to avoid
more bad weather. Unfortunately, the winds shifted to out of the Northwest and the snow and high winds followed them to Ohio.

On my trip back across Indiana on I-90, the wind gusts had pushed a few semi trucks and trailers into the ditches and I had a bit
of a struggle to keep my Lexus GS400 (with snow tires) in the desired lane, through the snow and high winds. What a mess.

I am sure the DWT Team was very glad to have their snow tires on their DeLoreans for their visit here to the Midwest.

Safe Travels the rest of the way.

Thanks,
Rich W.
