Hi!
I'm new in the Delorean world,I found one 3 week ago,behind a house under a old cover under a tree.It's in very good original shape.My major problem,the title.The car is registered to the name of the first owner.The car ben given to the family I bought it off.....Registered owner can't be found,so I can't do anything with the car. I try my change,if maybe someone here avec a badly not repairable car with the VIN plate that could sell it....only the 2 serial number plate. A US serial # will not be in the Quebec Archive so I will be able to get a new title for it and finally do something with this car.Without this the car will probably sit for years like for the previous owner

That certainly is an interesting story. Can you tell us about how the family aquired the car from the mysterious previous owner? And what is his or her status? Also, what is the VIN of the car?
There must be a way of getting title to it in Quebec...easier than swapping VIN plates.

I bought the car from as a gift,they didn't do the property transfert and now the original owner ( and registered) ignore all contact.There is no other way to get the title since the car is in his name in the registry.In Quebec is VERY it's very hard to get a title....

There must be a way of getting title to it in Quebec...easier than swapping VIN plates.

Wow. Tough spot to be in. I assume you have personally tried friendly contact with the owner, to get him/her to comply with your registration needs. If so, I'd suggest contacting a lawyer to get some advice and to see if they can help motivate the owner to respond. Sometimes a registered letter from a law office does the trick. Otherwise, what's to stop the former owner or his heirs from making a claim to the car in the future?

I'm sure there is a flaw to this logic, but find a wrecked parts D with a clean title and just swap the vin plates. On a DeLorean that's all the linked id numbers there are. (engine numbers, frame numbers (the hand weld bead numbers) are not attached to the vin or recorded.
Is it legal? probably not, would anyone know about it once you did it? probably not.

already done...the way is to contact the registered owner...they didn't help that much in these cases.....
I know the game....I'm in the vintage motorcycle world for many years and many time,the bike end in box for parts.... :(

Possible the original owner is deceased and the family won't talk to you. Do a search of the original owner's name and see if it comes up. Maybe hiring a lawyer to get you a Title is the way to go. Go to the local DMV office (or whatever they call it in Quebec) and find out how to get the Title in your name or a lawyer that can help you. Maybe a couple of Affidavits can do it from the family you got the car from and you. Without the Title you can't know if there is a lien on the car from a bank, you may be in for a surprise!

The registered owner isn't dead,it's buisness man in Montreal.... I called many time to his office and never called me back.... same story for the familly that sold me the car,they tried too...

Maybe send a letter explaining the situation and asking for his help would get his attention in a non-threatening way. Take pictures of the car and send them along with the letter and ask for his help. Mention that you would cover any of his expenses like getting a duplicate Title, postage, etc. Explain your passion about the car and try to get him on your side in fixing the problem. He obviously cared about the car at one time and may still.

This just seems fishy. You bought a car from a family that didn't have the title? Sounds like you simply got scammed or are trying to steal a car. What actual proof do you have that you own the car?

Oh I missed the part where he bought it, I just assumed it was left to him.
If you bought a car without a title then consider this a lesson learned.

A friend bought a car with a lost title and just a bill of sale, but the people he bought it from helped him (by giving him a bill of sale)

I don't see how saving 3700$ helps you when you can't do anything with the car.

The 3700$ save let me the chance to sell it without lost anything if I don't keep the car

I'm not sure why anyone would threaten the original owner? What's the threat, he had nothing to do with the sale. Getting a lawyer involved would surely kill any chance of the guy cooperating. If you change the vin plates you just committed a U.S. federal crime and if the car were traced anytime in the future it would come back to you. I would send the original owner a nice letter explaining what happened and offer him US $1000 cash to sign over the title. Go to DMV and ask them what you need to get to obtain a duplicate for a lost title. I had a good friend once who went to DMV because the original owner could not be found, asked for a duplicate title which they gave to him totally against their own rules, he signed it in the owners name and transferred
it to himself. Not really legal but then he didn't steal the car and it was just a paperwork mix up.

If the VIN is indeed 17062 it is a lost "Canadian Spec" Car.. a series of only 88 made for the Canadian Market of which only 32 Survivors have been found world-wide.
This car would be Number 33. We here at Official DeLorean Owners Canada would be very interested in what happens with this car.

Hey can you can take photos of the hood, the interior and the VIN plate so we can establish if indeed a Canadian Car?
Also, joining the ODOC Facebook page would be a good resource as well - we have Quebec members that may be able to point you in the right direction.

Once you get a Title that car is going to need a LOT of loving (read work)! In the States the DMV will only send a duplicate Title to the last Titled owner at the last known address and only by mail. In some places you can buy a car at an auction and the auctioneer gives you a Bill of Sale that you can submit to DMV to get a Title. With that metric speedo and temp gauge it is certainly an export car, not meant for the US market.
