Interior Side Panels.....

Ok, strippin out my interior, and the driver side interior side panel is kinda bjorked...

The vinyl that curls over the edge and gets held under the inner door seal is split all the way down it.
Is there a way to fix this, short of getting it recovered with new vinyl?

also...What are the two things that look like theyre supposed to hook on something? There's nothing attached to the fiberglass inside...are they there just so people ask why?

As far as i know there is no fix if the vinyl has split. I got my custom recovered with plenty of overlap to trim off to where i needed to.
Those tabs i heard you can push a fur tree pin back in to hold into place. I myself used heavy duty velcro. I have pictures on here in my photo album.

I think what you're seeing is the result of a previous owner removing that panel. There's two methods for doing so... one involves a heat gun and loosening the glue that hold he vinyl where it laps over the door opening. Another method is to just cut the vinyl along the opening knowing the door seal will hold it in place and cover the area. Since it's covered you really don't need to "repair or replace" anything.

Now, it's obviously easier to cut especially if the vinyl is really brittle. The drawback is you can cracking that starts to go beyond the area cover by the seal. Ask me how I know.

Sadly there is no know replacement vinyl that exactly matches the original.

As far as the tabs go - I've never heard of the fir tree installation. I was told they are left over from an attachment point that was determined unnecessary and eliminated.

I may have to do something like a good tape or something, at least at the top so that stays up. Gorila tape would work if I had a black interior..lol.
Unless I can find good vinyl that matches, anyway, otherwise I'd have to do both sides.

I kinda thought those might be left overs from something, since there isnt any eveidence there was anything attached.

My first car had that issue. I attached strips of vinyl on the backside and reinstalled....looks good.

I cut strips from a 3-ring binder and glued it on the backside of [what was left of] the existing stuff.

Some of the areas on mine dont have enough to glue to, but would still work....Guess I'll look around and see if I can find any grey 3 ring binders...lol

Decided to risk pulling the passenger side off too after see the state of the speaker on the driver side...might as well replace those.

Some of mine didn't either, but I glued the strips to the panel and it worked out OK. I'll post a pic if I have one.

Ill post a better pic or two in a bit showing the state of mine..hehe. Going out to finish cleaning all the old glue off the drive side and then carefully peel the passenger side..hehe.
