Body back onto frame

Bright and EARLY this Sunday, Ed is coming over and is going to help me get the body dropped back onto the frame.

I have cleaned, welded, painted, and tapped the holes on the frame to the best of my knowledge and abilities.

The time has come to get this thing back under the car where it belongs.

I hope I have all of the bolts and everything else for this job.

My question is, are there any washers or other pieces that go between the body and frame?

When we took the car apart it was a bit of a whirlwind of activity so my memories of the details are lacking a bit.

I know there is a piece of metal glued to the tub where the front towers meet the body. Those are still there.

I also seem to recall that the pontoon mounts may have had a washer in between. Can anyone confim? Any other mounting points with a washer between frame and tub?

Is there anything that goes on top of the rear towers where the frame meets the body? There are those large metal rivet type things that are mounted in the tub. Does that metal part just rest on top of my now freshly painted frame?

I wonder if it is a good or bad idea to place a thin rubber type material on the towers to add a bit of squishy between the frame and body.

It may be worth mentioning that in this case I am only attaching the frame itself. There is nothing on the frame at all. The suspension is still off. Every thing is off except the closing plate. I would love to have more of the car together before I put the body back on but I need the space in order to finish the rest of the parts and other work.

Any other advice or insights would be very helpful.

There are no washers between the body and frame. I would not add rubber or anything in-between because the body bolts are already somewhat prone to loosening.

I'd disagree, I've had several cars with washer/spacers between the pontoons and rear of the frame. None on any others tho

You are going to have a very hard time assembling this car without the frame fully assembled first. Just remember, the factory fully assembled the frame before dropping the body on it for a reason. There are steps that need to be done first. Looks like you are trying to skip ahead in this restoration and it will end up being a bad decision.

I speak from experience. I did a frame-off restoration several years ago.

No fuel lines needed here, since this is actually an Electric Conversion being done (after the frame was refurbished).

I do agree with Nick and others that at least the suspension should be re-installed before the body gets re-mounted,
but my guess is that he may have the body back off the frame a few times while fabricating the battery storage, etc.

This project is being done in a very small two-car garage, so space is at a premium, and it is almost inevitable some
steps may need to be repeated, to continue to make progress ... especially progress before another Chicago Winter.
