View Full Version : No fuel when starting

When the car sets for a few days it takes about 30 seconds or more to crank over the engine before it get enough fuel to start. After that it runs fine. If you start it in a few hours it starts quickly just fine. I had the fuel injectors tested, they do not leak. I replaced the fuel pressure accumulator (could they have put it in more difficult place?). Not really any change. I can only think the next issue might be the fuel pump - I believe it has check valves in it. Any other ideas?

I can usually start my car instantly if it's only been a few day since it last ran. Now if it sets a week, it need the CSV to get it started that that only takes one second of cranking.

I'm guessing your CSV is not working.

Hi there,

I had the same problem as you plus a hot start problem as I was figuring out and restoring the mechanicals. I needed to prime the pump by turning the key to the accessory position to activate the pump two or three times before attempting a start. I had a new all in one fuel pump, 6 new injectors, and a working CSV as a starting point.

I started replacing the easiest related fuel parts. First was an external check valve on the fuel pump. That helped, but the issue still persisted. Then, I replaced the PPR o-rings. Again, it helped, but the issue was still there. Finally, I replaced the original fuel accumulator (after 3 separate attempts to break loose the fittings). Then, the issue went away completely.

Now, the car starts off the key (without touching the accelerator pedal) on the first or second crank, no matter whether it's hot, cold, or been sitting dormant for a week.

So, since you have conquered the accumulator, I would suggest looking at the one way check valve on the pump (if applicable for your pump) and then the PPR o-rings.

Cheers,

P.S. I am also running Dave's ^ awesome solid state RPM relay which I highly recommend.

You both gave me some ideas which lead to reading other posts. It will be a week maybe more until I can get to it but I have a lot of testing of components to do. That will hopefully narrow it down. Up until a month or so ago I had no problems with this issue. So something went. Thanks guys! As always you are so helpful!
