Vin 6201's long way back to life?

So it's time to post some pictures of the work done to 6201. I have still a long way to go but at least I have started, and can see some results.
I have waited a long time for a replacement frame, but that gave me time to clean up a lot of parts and search for missing parts.
The car is a november 81 gray interior 5 speed

The starting point.

The engine came from another car (auto) and looks to be in better shape than the rest.

The chassis was out in no time, and the body was never raised any higher than on the second picture.

I tried to save all the parts of the frame, so that took it's time. Had to sacrifice several bolts.

I really think that refabricating a new frame would be easier than trying to repair this one. And I do not have the right equipment for that.

The engine was cleaned outside, got some new gaskets and looked clean enough inside for me to give it a chance.

Underneath the body was covered with som undercoating. Decided to remove it, and spent some evenings on my back under the car with a knife and razor blade.
What a shitty job that was without a lift.

Amazing! I spent many nights, many cans of brake clean and many brain cells (even with the haz-mask I'm sure) removing the undercoating from a car. It's like tar, and brutal stuff.

Cant wait to see the finished product.

So I sendt it off to straitening, many workhours later I got the call, it's ready. Took it home again, but that thing did not look ok so it was returned back. A couple of weeks later it was finaly ok.

Found the nearest sandblasting company and delivered the frame. The day after I got a call, the guy gave up, saying it would take days to get rid of all that epoxy. At least the rust spotts where gone.

Then I grinded clean every sign of cracks in the epoxy, and the rust-prone areas and painted it myself.

Amazing. This is a true testimony that every abandoned DeLorean out there can be saved!

I knew the car was too good to let go when I found it. I imported it to Norway (it was exported out from Florida, US, along with a bunch of other project DeLoreans), put up for sale, and Geir ("Slammer") bought it directly from me. I wouldn't have sold it to just anybody. I sold it because I knew Geir was the right guy for this job. My mission is to get more DeLoreans restored and back on the road.

It has taken a lot of time and money, but still worth it. These cars are so rare and will only increase in value. Congratulations to Slammer, looking forward to seeing the car back on the road in due course.

So this is where I am today. Winter temperatures up here under the north pole will stop most of the work until springtime.

Hopefully I can do something with my seats during wintertime.

If the weather is good to me, I'll try to get the engine and trans mounted before I snow in :)

This looks awesome! Great work!
I am currently working on getting my frame back together myself after blasting, welding and galvanizing.
Mine was pretty good from start with, except that the roof box was bad. Frame looked good, but the epoxy hid some stuff. Welded it myself.
Would not recomend steel blasting and galvanizing because it got too hot, and it warped some places. Had to do alot of straightening aswell.
Frame is straight, but it warped here and there. I would probably have done what you did if I knew what i know now.
End result is good though.

Here are som picture of my frame. Pictures are taken some days ago, Gas tank, plate under the frame, accumulator and gearshift linkage has been installed after they were taken.

Spendt some time trying to understand the doorlatches, but in the end adjusting the rods made things work for me.

I painted the fascias myself, the color is Alfa Romeo Grigio Antares Stromboli Met. Code 651A. Did not get the clearcoat I wanted so I had to mix 2 different types of clear, but ended up too glossy in the end.

And I never painted the black parts. I'll have to see, maybe I do that later.

I used a paint gun on my parts. Any paintshop who deals with carpaints should be able to tint the basecoat you need, and supply the clearcoat. Also primer and plasticiser if you need it.

Not much of an update, but last summer I had a guy come and change my windshield, that I ordered from Ed.
A couple of months later I discovered a gap between the glass and the roof while trying to adjust the doors.
The roof was supported before the old windshield was removed, and the guy apparently knew what he was doing but something must have gone wrong.
So the car is just sitting and waiting for a windshield reinstalling, bodypanel adjusting and a testdrive.

Tested the car on the open roads a couple of days ago, and everything worked well.

Next hurdle, the Norwegian DMV witch is not known to be easy to deal with always.
