Hey all. Really sad day for me today, as my car is in shambles and now So am I. I decided to take the car out for a weekend drive and drop my girlfriend off for work. I have put alot of money into having this car as a daily driver, even though i did not use it as such one. Anyway, while going to turn onto the freeway up here in Portland, I suddenly couldn't control the car and we slammed into a barrier. After the accident The fire department came. Walking up the on ramp I noticed a HUGE oil slick starting at the top of the ramp going down which was the reason for the crash. This car has never had a leak and even after the wreck, it doesn't leak oil. I had assumed my brakes didn't work but i checked them and yeah no issues with them. So basically hit this huge oil slick on a turn, that the city never cleaned and now my baby is totaled. Here are some photos. I doubt ill ever be able to get another one of these cars. Thank you to the community whos been so good to me with any issues I have had over these few yrs.

Terrible news... However there's a good chance that can be repaired. Send photos to Toby Peterson at DMC NW. He had a similar accident last year and was able to repair his car.

You think so? The stage 1 exhaust is done, theres a dent int he front left fender, front fascia is damaged, the tub is ripped as well. Toby is closed for the day. I already tried . Sitting at home moping now

It's all replaceable and insurance should help you do just that.

No where near totaled. Easy fix compared to front hits. Car can take a hit to back like this no problem. This car can be fixed for 7985.66

I hope you picked up the grill insert. The front facia got pushed back on the left , but I can hardly see any damage to the LFF. What little there would be is very repairable. How bad was the rear frame damaged? Was there anything impacted on the engine other than stage l parts.

Do you have regular insurance or collector agreed value policy?

Rear took most of it, dent in front left fender, engine looks ok as for the frame no idea. Its crushes so driver side rear tire cant move. Snapped some belts. I have hagerty classic. The tub is ripped open. I will be sending info to toby tomorrow. Insurance will cover it, just upset. Need to talk to the city about that oil on the road, you can see it in the photos. Ive never seen a slick like that

oil wasnt dry, they started putting the sand down to soak it up after it happened, no one notified the city i guess, it was 10 prob happened at night

I meant, was the Oil-Dry (clay absorbent) aka kitty litter in place? Sand is not an absorbent agent.

This is awful news but you and your girlfriend are unharmed and your car can and should be repaired. DeLoreans are remarkably resilient and you have several choices of specialists to fix your injured baby to perfection. These types of things are what insurance is for after all. Best of luck!

Call Haggerty right away and get some initial estimates for them. They will also need the Police Report. The towing and storage may also be covered so save those receipts. Make sure in the report it mentions that oil slick and that it was there BEFORE your accident. After any accident you must be alert for any damage to you or your passenger. Wipelash may take a few days before you notice symptoms. Remove all personal items before they go missing. Even if it gets totaled, if you had it insured for enough, you can replace it. Even in it's condition it still has some value. Get that # when you get your repair estimates. You may need it for your negotiations with Haggerty.

I may have to go to the station to get a police report. With all the riots going on no police were able to make it to the accident only the fire department and since it happened on an on ramp they were trying to get us out of there as soon as possible, but i took alot of photos. I have a set value with hagerty, ill be talking to them tomorrow. Ill update this thread!

Riley, my heart goes out to you. I went for a "weekend drive" late this afternoon, and something like that happening is my worst nightmare. That 5th picture is just heartbreaking -- the car looks so twisted on that back corner. That said, while looking through the pics, I was thinking the whole time that it looks totally fixable. New rear quarter panel, new rear fascia, and you're 90% there. Please don't let Hagerty total it, they would be fools to do so. Keeping fingers crossed for you, please let us know what you find out tomorrow. In the mean time, hang in there! Everything's gonna be ok and you'll be smiling again soon.

Very sorry to hear that this happened and the fact that it was caused by such a unlikely event only puts salt on the wound. I'm not going to try and over simplify it but look at it this way. Several people including Josh has said this is a fairly easily repair. It's the end of the driving season and you have five or six months until you will really "need" the car again. The car can and will be back to normal before spring hits so basically you just gained free winter storage for the year. Most people ship their cars off to the vendors over the winter anyway for repairs...yours is just a bit more extensive but it will be right again soon.

Very sorry to see this, but glad you are ok. I would agree with the assessment of others that this is worth fixing. Not cheap to fix, but I'm sure the insurance company would agree the car is worth more than these repairs will cost.

Very heart breaking to have your baby banged up. I can imagine how devastated I'd be if this happened to my car.

Let this also be a reminder for those not well versed in rear mounted engines. The momentum of such a weight in the back is pretty much unstoppable, especially downhill on a slick surface. This is one of the issues I see with the anticipated DMC new builds with big, powerful engines. Great in empty parking lots, not so great in the real world.

Man, I can't imagine what you are going through. Remember that it's just a car and can be replaced. Glad you both are OK. I had Hagerty's insure my Bricklin a few years back. I ran over a piece of split firewood and it bounced up and put a large hole in the bell housing of the auto trans. Their parts locator bent over backwards to locate a new housing but couldn't so insisted on replacing the whole transmission, a Chrysler 727 torqueflite. They were unable to do so, and immediately sent a check for 3K to cover the cost and installation of one that I had found.

Heres an update. Good stuff has been done, the damaged portion of the tub has been removed and the damaged part of the frame has had a new part welded on. Car will be getting a new steering rack, ball joints and tires as well while its in the shop. Steering column shaft was damaged as you can see in the photo, non crash related. I guess the car never had a bushing ( you should check your own cars to see if you have one) its a slow wait and i am dying to get back in the car but while its in the shop id like to have some more things done if my wallet can afford it lol. The important thing was saving the car and not letting the insurance company send her to the graveyard.

Small world. I've been in a bunch of different Intel facilities myself too. Always for the UPW (ultrapure water) systems. Hillsboro, Hudson Mass, Colorado Springs, Chandler Arizona, an IBM site in Florida and an STMicroelectronics site in Sicily. The travelling was fun up to a point. We always ate well, especially in Sicily. Intel's usually have one helluva staff cafeteria though :)
