Hello,
I just completed pulling the engine and transmission out of 5738. I have determined that this engine and trans has been out before! Missing bolts, wrong length bolts, poorly installed rear main seal (not driven in straight), nicks on casings, etc. The mount that bolts to the transmission on the driver's side had been broken and bent at some point the PO had welded it back together badly. Anyway, there is a lot to do to make things right again.

The seal that the torque converter goes into on the inside of the bell housing was hard, and the bearing surface that the torque converter shaft rides on needs to be driven out and replaced. The are score marks and it is no longer a good mating surface. The input shaft of the torque converter is in good condition. I can't find this bearing part in any blow apart parts listing. I am also having trouble finding the paper gaskets the go between the final drive unit and the bell housing. Does anyone have any idea who might still carry these parts?
Thanks,
Mike

You can try Cobra Transmission, they sell the 4141 overhaul kit and if they sell the kit, then surely the gaskets included can be bought separately.

If that turns into a dead end, just do a search for renault 4141 and a little research should yeild some results.

Fastco should have the bearing and the seal. You will have to cut the old one out and press in the new one. The gaskets are part of the whole set. I don't think you can get them individually from DMCH. You can buy gasket materiel and make your own. Be careful as the thickness affects the running clearances and they must be checked if you are taking things apart.

Well, I've hit a dead end on the torque converter hub bushing - every one I've called has said the same thing that no one stocks those parts anymore. I did manage to find a gasket reseal kit on ebay, but I don't know for sure if it has all of the gaskets I need. I'll have to wait and see when it comes in. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
