I replaced the drain pan gasket on 2930, but after reassembling, I have a pretty strong drip from the driver side rear of the transmission.
One of two things is possible:
- I overfilled it
- There's really a problem with the gasket or the drain pan.
If I drain the transmission, how much fluid should I put back in? That'll solve the 'did I overfill it' question. If I did not overfill it or there's an appropriate amount there, what is the best way to seal the leak?

To check the level start the car and let it idle. Slowly shift all the way down the selector, stopping in each position for 5 seconds, and slowly back to park - leave it running. Pull the (red) tranny dipstick, wipe it and put it back in briefly, and then pull it out and read it.
You may have overfilled it, or underfilled it, but most likely you over tightened the bolts for the pan and bent it, didn't tighten it enough, or didn't clean both surfaces well before installing it.
Worst case you bent up the pan - if it comes to it you have to pull it off again, clean it, and put it face down on a granite counter top or similar and try to slide a thin gap gauge under it at every point around the perimeter.

Thanks for the advice.
I should point out that, when I got it, there was no gasket, just a huge wad of orange silicone RTF. Perhaps there was a reason for that....

I'll bet it was already bent up...

It might not be the pan gasket. Check the seals for the dipstick tube, wire connector, and combo switch. Overfilling is bad. Use the correct procedure for checking the level in the Workshop Manual G:04:02. If the pan is leaking you may have stripped one or more bolt holes. Repair with thread inserts.
