Super stoked to announce that I put a deposit on a car yesterday! I will be picking her up on Saturday and post all the pics and details when the car is in my hands. For now I will say she is an Aug 81 build, 5 speed, gas flap, black interior, silver wheel car. To all who have been patient with my questions and search for the last year and a half...Thanks !

Its a project, but that's what I wanted. I like the thrill of the find and the build. I built both my classic truck and my wife's classic mini. This car has been sitting for 20 years in a barn. Last time it was on the road was 96. The owner passed away and his widow is selling it to me. The good news is that it is all there and in pretty darn good shape. All the struts are blown of course which was annoying when looking at the car, so I called Rob Grady and have a full kit on the way. The first order of business is the tackle the fuel system, fuses, tune up etc, and see if i can get the engine to fire. Its going to be a long restoration journey but I have been waiting since I was a kid for this car, so I will enjoy the ride.

Congrats on the purchase! Having brought 5052 back to the road after a 20 plus year nap, I can attest to how rewarding and fun the experience can be! In addition to the fuel system issues, I would recommend researching what to put in an engine that has been sitting for that long.

Feel free to send any tips and tricks you have from your experience with the 20 year nap. Right now I am trying to decide if i should bother with trying to clean injectors and save stock k jet parts or just buy Josh at DPI's complete kit. I am worried in the end I will end up replacing the majority of the fuel system any way..and get nickle and dimed to the point I should have just started with an all new system. Obviously I will need to buy the basic tune up items to but i need to get into the engine and see how bad the engine is.

Congrats Jimmy in your purchase. I too bought a very complete car needing a thorough restoration. Mine was after a 15 year nap. I'm 3 years in on the journey and it's been very satisfying. I tried to document the highlights in my photo albums if they are any help, but mainly, this forum and the vendors are most helpful.

Got any history? From reading the old Delorean World mags, it seems that those who cared to put turbos on their cars did so because they were especially enthusiastic about them.

It was driven into the barn she believes but I cant confirm. The car sat in that same spot since 1996. Her late husband also had 3 gtos and a mustang that were sold. The car is all there and looks to be complete. The frame is in amazing shape. The biggest problem with it is the sun fade on the exterior. there are a couple small dents. The drivers door has a crease in it. It is an awesome candidate for restoration. It's gonna be a journey, but I cant wait to get started.

How did you find it?

Was it actually registered with the GA tag "Delorean" or is that just a fake one on the front?

searchtempest...and no it was a cardboard decoration plate, I already took that off and gave it to a buddy to hang in his garage...he was very excited about it lol.
