Busy day. Restored circuit card and installed leds, installed robs mattaliner (my damn original switches disintegrated in my hands so they arent flush , I'll have to get some new ones ), finished roof repair and test fit headliner...it clears. Spend a couple hours doing door adjustments, still chasing alternator circuit ........got it to work for about 10 minutes. ......f!@#.....oh also removed 1986's finest car alarm .

Car on the lift at Mike's DMC Midwest. Left it there at open house. New windshield (went with a antenna in the windshield) is in along with countless other things, alignment, wheel balance, a pillars, headliners, under hood stuff etc. . Should be done next week and be on the road. I am thinking I will roll the dice fly in and put her through her paces on a 14 hour road trip. Because why not. I Build cars to drive them.

When I bought 6599 from DMCF nearly 5 years ago, I had too/wanted too, make the 700+ mile drive with the car back home.
My drive home covered interstates, highways, back roads, small towns and every kind of conditions I thought I'd ever run into. It was Worth it.

Have seats out for new seat covers being installed at upholstery place. Decided to try and clean carpet as good as I can while in the car. Since I am not ready to commit to new carpet and wanna save this stuff. If i can...sprayed carpet with stain lifter then hand brushed with hot water , laundry soap and a little dawn then vacuumed dry with shop vack. This week I'll be using a portable carpet washer vacuum I bought and will be deep cleaning the carpet with that. I think it will make a big difference. Atleast be sanitary and smell better.

Stopped by the upholstery guys shop today. He called me saying he wanted me to look at driver side latch mechanism before he tried to repair it. I think he was afraid because I told him those parts were unavailable. Anyways I showed up and fixed the latch myself in about 5 minutes . It almost looked like someone got in there and permanently disabled it unlocked. Origional covers but definatly messed with. Someone had put a spring over the latch rod. I disconnecting the adjustment wire . ..re adjusted it so latched worked like passenger seat and put spring back in the apropriate location. Problem solved problem staying solved . I wonder if it will come off my bill lol

Those seat sliders look like a good candidate to be soaked in a tub of evap-o-rust solution then repainted. The solution only dissolves the exposed rust and is non-toxic.

I reached out to the origional dealership that sold my car to its first owner in South Carolina. They sent me some dealership stickers. They also remembered the origional purchaser of the car who was a prominent doctor in the town and became the head director of the medical program at a university there. They still have a few mechanics there who said that most cars on the lot got medal adhesive badges but they didn't stick right on the deloreans so they tried stickers and then decided to just not put anything on the car as it looked bad. Tjey also said it took them a few years to sell the last delorean on the lot after the corporation went bust and that they got out of the delorean game as soon as they sold the last one. Apparently they broke even on the project and made no money. Pretty neat. 5517555176

Those seats do look really good. I like the "puffy" sort of look to them. My own are more stream lined/smooth.

The fit is real tight. The leather is a cowhide tougher style. Not 100 % happy with them but hate the look of the scrotum look covers sold by dmc. So for me these where a good compromise. Covers were 350. Install was 400. I was qouted 1200 by dmc so this route saved me about 450 bucks . Be forewarned if you order from l seat expect zero customer service and about 1.5 to 2 months delivery time. But for the price these covers are great . And my car looks a hell of a lot better then before. If you like a real supple leather don't buy these. If you want a more durable longer lasting style leather then these are good for that.

Good description, thanks. Real tight vs supple. Glad you said that. I wouldn't have assumed that just looking at the pics. If I changed anything on my car, it would be more the soft/supple variety than anything else. Can't really justify a change for how much it would cost, Canadian exchange rate on top of it all. My seats are fine as is for the time being.

Amen to that. Someone re-did them before I got the car back in 2007. Never had to fuss with them. One of the few areas on the car I DIDN'T have to suffer through... sort of. PO never bothered to reinstall the slide release bars when finished, so day one with my car left me thinking I couldn't fit in it... being tall and with seats that weren't able to go back all the way. Julee managed to find me a used pair of the bars off a parts car and then I was good to go :)

Made a cool discovery today thanks to Dimitri the Bluetooth radio repair guy on here from France.


That vin is owned by his budy. It's 2707 and is 1 car newer then mine on the assembly line. Black interior 5 speed. It was ironically found in a barn in Texas 05 ish (mine in a barn in Georgia 16) and he has been restoring it in France ever since. It was also in the same rough condition mine was. Apparently the delorean gods were not kind to these 2 August builds but hey atleast they both were covered in a barn . His engine was toast to so he swapped in a Renault 25 prv. It is cool to see 2 sister cars both saved from certain death and with similar backgrounds.

Both radios had problems and broken parts which I imagine most have at this point. The auto reverse was broke on both. Finally got to give my girl some love. Works been busy. Restored, powder coated early dark grey rims, with origional valve stems and nos grey caps. Also replaced 225s with the stock 235s . I know its a small difference but it bugged me lol . Replaced angle drive with a Grady rebuilt unit and lower cable . Discovered old lower Speedo cable snapped. Put all the new parts in and she works again! Next up is stereo. Parts on deck include lower rocker clips and rocker fixin next

I discover a big puddle of coolent under my car after the long winter. One of the mistakes I made was using regular hoses in the valley. So I replaced with silicone and also re torqed heads while I was in there. Also found a slight leak under the front frame plate. Took me about 6 to 8 hours . Took my time . She fired right back up. Had to cut up a harmonic balancer puller and go get some bolts from hardware store to make a steering wheel puller that fit.

alignment isnt an issue...somehow the wheel magically got turned when I was installing the column bushing, so I have to recenter it too.

good question, I'd be interested to know too. I had some weird orange pinstriping on one of my doors and i spent hours with acetone and razor blade carefully removing it.

Then used a sharp new blade by hand and kept the blade angle shallow and started at the front and worked my way back. It came off pretty easy. Then wipe the same area with acetone to clean the adhesive off. I did the whole car in an hour. I did one panel at a time . Once you get the stripe off the fender for example with the blade . Go back over the adhesive with the blade again to get as much material off as possible. Then the acetone takes off the rest pretty easily. The car will at least need a hand blending pad to hide the shinier metal that used to be under the stripe .

I (mis)use my rivet nut tool more often than I expected.

Almost any time I take something apart that requires two wrenches I try to put a rivet nut in:
-Fuel filter
-AC dryer
-Coil resistor mount
-Probably more I'm forgetting

If you're not a fastener purist, most trim panels I replace the factory screws with M5-0.8 nylon screws (15 mm length). You can get a big box for pretty cheap and they'll never seize up on you.

You just have to push the panels together before tightening as nylon won't draw two piece together well.

Where did you score NOS grey center caps? Those seem pretty hard to come by. Kudos for switching to dark rims, btw. So many people dislike them, but I think they make the cars look even more exotic. Good for you for reverting back to 235s, too. :yesss:

Thanks I love the look of the early cars . I believe my car originally had dark facias and rims it was just so sun bleached being a southern car they were faded. According to the vin could go either way. Rims are definatly early thin cast style though. I had to go dark lol. I plan on having fascias painted soon dark as well. As far as the caps I got them from Rob Grady. And as far as the 235s I just feel it's totally 80s and had to do it right lol

Started diagnosing side mirrors . Got driverside mirror online ! Passenger side doesn't work but I suspect the switch since it popped a fuse. Have a new switch coming cause mine barely moves. Hopefully that fixes it or I'll have do dig in more . Then all things on car will be operational. Pulled door panels and a pillar trims for repair and new trees . Windshield washer now works. That just leaves ac !

Installed nos mirror I got from Mike and Suzy and it only worked left and right . Got a tip from Mike and it worked . Turns out the radio static isolation harness had a short in it. I removed it and problem solved . Both mirrors work.

Installed rear view mirror (electric) and wired it to a proj lamp switch on my tfc. So now it's a full time rear view mirror if I want it or i simply flip the switch off. Lines and screen image still need adjustment (brightness etc) that was on first power up . Pretty happy with it although i wish i could remove the back up lines all together .57891

So last weekend I drove my car with the wife on a 4 hour road trip to buffalo. We enjoyed the car all weekend and on Sunday went to get on the thruway and popped a number 7 fuse. I bypassed the rpm relay and the car started fine. Looked under the car and no leaking fuel. I couldnt find any obvious signs in the engine compartment. Decided to leave car at my familys house till I could have time to trouble shoot and fix it. Sent my RPM relay to Dave since it was one of his units to check out and he checked it and it was good. He suspected the WUR. The other day I get back to the car after sitting for a week and I plug a nos rpm relay in and disconnect the wur. Car starts up runs for 3 seconds then blows #7 fuse. I smell gas. I look under car and gas is dripping. I go behind the car and find the frequency valve had cracked and fuel was getting into the connector and blowing the circuit. I got super lucky . I haven't heard of this happening to someone else so I thought I would share my experience. I will also post a pic of a nos rpm relay vs Dave's so you can see what a major improvment Dave's unit is. After this experience on top of the fire extinguisher I already carry I will be installing a fire loop under the hood. Had that fuze not popped on the highway I could have had a major problem. 5795357954579555795657957

Wow Jimmy, you sure were lucky with that fuel leak problem. I haven’t heard about anyone else having it either. Were you able to pinpoint where the frequency valve cracked? For example, I see you even have a new fuel line for it....do you suppose tightening the new hose on either end contributed to the cracking? Where did you get the fuel line? Etc.

Lucky is right, that corner of the engine has been the source of many Delorean engine fires from gas dripping on the exhaust. I have a Core spare engine from a car that had an engine fire. The fire was put out quickly but still managed too melt everything in the front right corner of the engine.

The valve definitely failed internally. Fuel was coming out of the plastic. Even shorted and got so hot it burnt and raised the plastic in the connector socket on the valve. Rich hooked me up with a valve and MCFrY is 5798557986579875798857989back on the road.

So I am probably up to about 3000 miles on my car and have always felt the car is a little to darty and unpredictable feeling at high speed and i suspected alignment in error. All the suspension is new. So I checked the alignment manually and as suspected it's way off. Question now is, who to take it to in the nashville area for an alignment.

Got the Car aligned today and it confirmed all my suspicions. Let me start off by saying I am not Intending to attack any specific vendor but I am gonna give my honest opinion on the cars suspension and drive-ability after a year of real world driving and testing, including a 900 mile road trip. First of all if you buy lowering springs or coil overs from a vendor and you actually objectively look at the cars suspension performance its going to drive like shit by modern day standards if you lower it for many reasons. I am not gonna get into a debate about how the Deloreans suspension was great for 80s standards....great its not the 80s anymore and I am not satisfied by that. If you lower your car to make it look like what the original design was intended for, its gonna look cool and drive like garbage because there simply is not enough adjust ability in the suspension. If you think the car drives great stock then don't read any further.

My Setup:
QA1 Coilover Kit from DS.
Ed Udings Brackets
Toby's poly sway bushings
new regular bushings everywhere else
Delorean club UK billet lowers
DMC Midwest NOS uppers
Delorean Midwest front Sway Bar
All Brand new NOS style brakes.

-Under developed. Pissed me off that I paid 1200 bucks and got 2 different color springs ( front and rear springs are different colors. something that should be disclosed to buyers, and I don't think is acceptable for something that expensive.
-I don't think the spring rate and or valving in the shocks is right for the car. Needs further development.

Ed's brackets are awesome but you have to be careful about how you shim/Washer them for spacing. They will affect your alignment and the alignment shop just looks at them and says there is no adjustment so you'll have to do that yourself. But make sure you have even washers on both sides of the brackets on the left and right front of the car and then you'll have to go from there and measure your caster and spacing against the fender.

I cant stand the brakes.. they are terrible by modern standards. I wont be wasting money on the stock brakes anymore...i'll be upgrading to something else.

In my opinion the car lacks sufficient adjust ability in the suspension for a lowered car.

my cars ass end wants to pull right as soon as you accelerate due to camber and the front end wants to go left due to caster. You can see how this can be a problem at highways speeds or bumps.

If I had to do it again I would either fabricate my own system or buy a system with more adjust-ability like DPI's spec kits.

-car really just needs a double wishbone front suspension that is adjustable .

In the mean time Josh is building me some adjustable uppers and lowers for the rear on monday to at-least fix my camber issues and the rear end pulling issue. I will do some shim adjustments up front to fix the castor.

Again not meant to offend, just my honest opinion on my car and the way I want it to drive. Other peoples results may vary lol.

Hi Jimmy. Thanks for your comments about my kit. Since this is the first I've heard of your issues, I would have liked the opportunity to explain or work through the problems with you, but here we are:

1. The springs are different colors because that's the only color in which they are available from QA1 in the correct spring rate. The photos of the kit all clearly show that they are different colors: on eBay, Facebook, etc. I wish they were all the same color, but my kit was at least $150 cheaper than any other coil-over alternative. For about $50, you could powder coat those springs to be the same color.

2. The spring rates are mathematically correct based on the axle weights and QA1's formulas. QA1 does not offer any alternative valving for the shocks.

There is nothing to "explain or work through". This was an honest assesment of my current suspension, not a review of drive stainless. As far as the colors I did not notice when I purchased because I bought them based off a recommendation from a friend , not facebook photos but regardless. Furthermore if powdercoating is so cheap then I would rather pay the extra 150 bucks from a vendor to get suspension that matches . Who wants to bolt different color suspension on their car....Looks amateur. I dont math to well so my review is based off driving experience. QA1 makes quality parts, they dont cure delorean suspension design.

1st test set made. New nos uppers from Mike and about 90 bucks in turnbuckles, nuts, and weldable inserts. Just over 200 bucks invested, and boom... camber problems solved. No waiting on vendors. Make them yourself, or have them made at a machine shop
...very easy to do and any competant machine shop that deals with circle track cars etc. Can do this.

Lessons learned

The inserts I ordered where all suppose to be smooth taper and 2 showed up with a stupid hex shape. Doesnt look the best but doesnt compromise integrity as that side was welded anyway so I didnt care. The size shown in the pic is to small . You'll either need to order bigger and mill them down or have a set made.

The inside of the tube is 1.166" if I remember right and nobody makes a weldable insert that size . My uncle said next time easier to just machine his own inserts out of solid stock instead of milling these to work.

So if you can weld and want to make your own set of these I would recommend cutting a control arm down the middle and taking it to a machine shop so they can machine you some weldable inserts, then take them home and make the control arm yourself. The turnbuckles and hardware I went with are all 3/4-16, plenty strong for this application. Or just have a local machine shop make them for you.

Stock upper arm is 8" from bushing center to center. These adjust from about 7 3/4 to well past 9 inches
Way more range then what is needed. Anyone with a lowered car like mine will need to go longer then stock anyway to fix camber issues .

Also remember you need 2 sets of left hand thread and 2 sets of right hand thread inserts and nuts so that your turn buckle will actually work and adjust out and in.


I plan on also making a set of lowers.

Once I install these on the car I'll post more pics /alignment etc.

Looking good Jimmy! I had a fellow DeLorean owner convert my lower links for a reasonable price, but I don't think he does it anymore. I think you can get good adjustment with one or the other, but having both perhaps gives you flexibility.

Well I finally got these installed and all I can say is wow they transformed the car. Much bigger driving improvment then I expected. The car feels much more planted and more predictable. Less wishy washy in the back end. At speed much less driver Input. I wish I would have done this sooner. Car drives much straighter. Best part is it only took an hour on the lift to install them . I am gonna move on to the front end now and try and do some improvements for caster .

Lower link not necessary . Installing an adjustable upper link like I did puts the tire back out to where it's suppose to be and gets the car back to factory alingment specs. Actually better. As the stock setup had variances in production and was shit. I prefer adjustable uppers because it pushes the wheel back out to where it's suppose to be. When you agressively lower and make the lowers adjustable it still has a narrower track then stock. I plan on also doing my lowers. But it's not necessary . If you want a set of uppers or lowers made I can make that happen.

I rebuilt the brakes in my car about 2 years ago now. I have only put 3 to the 5000 miles on the car but my brakes started to get sticky. Origionally when I rebuilt the car I was concerned about corrosion in the lines since the car had sat so long. But I believe after actually driving the car it knocked a bunch of old corrosion in the lines loose. My left rear was locking up after drives so I took both rear calipers off and rebuilt them . You can see the cross referenced jaguar rebuild kit seals from Rock Auto in the pics. I found a massive amount of rust in the calipers pooled up on the line in side . And both seals on both line in sides of the rear calipers were blown. Originally when I rebuilt them I used some brake build lube you can get at parts stores but I didn't like it . It was to thick. It's real easy to pinch the seals on the Pistons in these cars. I have found that using some dot 4 as lube really is the best and easiest method. Put it all back together adjusted the parking brake while I was in there and took it for a drive . Good as new. I am gonna do the front as well another day. I did. Flush the lines again and got just a little bit more crap out. Also replaced the clutch reservoir fluid while I was in there. Total cost. 14 dollars .

Rebuilt the fuel distributor o-rings . Replaced the headlights that have probably been on the car for 30 years and sottered the broken ground on the right front sidemarker . Car is fully operational again. Last system to bring online is the AC . I'll start assembly of that soon.

So I have been chasing brake issues since I built this car. Everything is new except the original metal lines. About a month or so ago I started having some intermittent pedal going to the floor scaring the crap out of me. I put the car on the lift, pulled the wheels and discovered a lot of brake drag . Front pads were smoked again and I had just rebuilt the calipers a few months before. I dug into the car to figure out why my brakes keep being a pain and found a few surprises. The front left caliper I could move while mounted . Pulled the hub and discovered 3 mounting bolts for the caliper bracket had backed out (scary. Someone had impacted them on and spread the lock washers so they were able to back out). Fixed that. Found the brake servo vacuum line connected but the clamp that secures is was loose and dangling. Moved on to the DMC master cylinder I had installed and was surprised to find it leaking and had failed. Ordered a 50/50 unit from delorean go and swapped that . Also adjusted the brake servo rod clockwise (in) 2 flats to fix the brake drag when my brakes get hot. Rebuilt the front calipers. Flushed the entire system and I finally have good solid reliable brakes. I like the way the 50/50 master brakes a lot better then the DMC 60/30 unit. Yeah I did the same I was shocked. One was actually sheared.

I'll have to pull the hub and mill it out later .

RPM, Lambda and Hot start relays go away with EFI. It still could use the RPM relay if you don't want to drive the fuel pump from your ECU. You would probably want to monitor the crash sensor to shut your pump down and unlock the doors.

Forgot to post on here. I My car originally came with a thin Gray dealer installed stripe kit. I got a nos one from PJ Grady a few years back. Removed mine cause it was in bad shape. Finally got around to putting the original nos replacement on. Definitely a 2 person job. The wife helped me. You need to use a heat gun and take your time to delicately heat the old adhesive. It's not overly difficult just a tedious process. I think it turned out great. Love it

The Ecoboost and porsche trans are bolted to the frame. Utilizes all factory mount holes no mods to the frame. Designed and built by me. Ecoboost kits on the horizon.
