Perfect paint for early wheel CENER CAPS?

i have an early car with the dark colored wheels. Looks like delorean doesn't sell the original gray center caps anymore, only the black with white text.

Does anyone know a REALLY GOOD MATCH paint code/color/source for the correct gray paint I should repaint my original centercaps with ?

NOS grey center caps are $$$$$$$.

I just took my center cap that was least faded and matched it up to some spray paint at the hardware store. It's not a perfect match, but it's pretty close.

When I get my wheels re-done, I'll have them do my caps the same color.

He won't sell dark gray wheel caps separately. He only sells them when you buy the early style wheels from him.

Sure i could go around trying to match, was just hoping someone had the perfect match by part# i could order.

Mine almost look hammer finish, is that common? I have never seen another early DMC centercap.

Have them scanned. That's the best way to ensure a match.

Scanning the wheel paint and matching the cap to the wheel is one way to go. It will look more original than the combo you have. Scanning somebody's grey cap is another option.

From the photo you see the cap looks different from the wheel. Nothing wrong with what Brandon got with his spray-match if you want to match to the wheel itself.

There may be no paint code for the grey cap. Not even sure it was painted. Anybody know if they came with or without paint?

Getting the paint thick enough to cover the black color of your caps yet thin enough to retain the sharp-edged look of the cap logo might be tricky. Suggest starting on one or two black practice caps to be sure you like what you get.

Is that the true, actual color of a NOS early cap? After 36 years, any paint is likely to have faded at least a little.

My caps were faded before I sprayed them, but I had no way of knowing how much the grey had worn off. They were almost black.
