Front Fascia/ Bumper

Hi there,

I know this has probably been discussed before, but just wanted to quickly ask what you recommend using to touch up a front bumper that has been exposed to some pretty aggressive chipping (I assume from rocks, bugs, etc). There are no signs of actual damage (dents/scratches), just paint chipping.

Is there a specific type of paint that is recommended to touch this up? Would this be a simple spray on application, or should the front of the car be taped up, bumper sanded or removed and repainted?

A lot of chips is usually indicative of a past repaint and the paint is not adhering well. A small number of chips can usually be touched up but I have seen plenty of touch up jobs by unskilled people that look worse after than with the chips. More pronounced damage is best solved by respraying (assuming money is not an issue).

Like I said if the damage is caused by nothing other than rock chips I would strip the old paint away before refinishing because the remaining paint will fail in the future no matter how good the fresh paint is applied. If the damage is caused by collision (hits or scrubs) then you can get by with spotting it in.
