I was thinking of black vinyl wrapping the edges of the car. So like the top of the front fenders and a little on the hood. The normal places people run there dirty mitts on the car. lol

I did a quick test with some masking tape, and it looked awful. My fender have so many little scratches on them, it is killing me.

Maybe some clear vinyl wrap? Has anyone tried this?

I've owned DeLoreans since 2000. There is no way to make people stop. Now that everyone carries a camera in their pocket, encountering a DeLorean signals to them the opportune moment to take a picture of themselves - usually touching your car in some way.

The small scratches probably aren't from interaction with people, but more likely from swirling while cleaning or poorly graining with a scotchbrite pad. It only drives me nuts because it dirties the car and because it's simply not respectful. I carry a pack of glass wipes in the trunk for quick touch-ups. I absolutely shouldn't have to do this, but it seems to be part of the gig.

I hope this helps. I'm interested to know if anyone's ever sprayed the car with a clear coat.

It would probably cheaper to take your car to DMCCA for a regrain than wrapping it.

You've probably seen the posts here before - people feel entitled to touch, open the doors, or even worse - jump into your car without permission. It's going to happen and you'll have to develop ways to cope with the rage and hopelessness of the reality we live in.

It's extremely irritating, rude and disrespectful but 99.9% of the time it is not going to damage anything.

The biggest problem is people with rings or rivets in their jeans. The next problem is, because you usually show the car with the doors open, people take that as an invitation to jump into the car. I use the plastic pipes on the striker pins. Works 99% of the time. As for the scratches, they can be sanded out. It's not like they scratched up your paint. If all of the attention bothers you that much maybe you should not take it out into the public.

The best solution I have heard of is to print up a sign that says

"FOR SALE - $150,000"

And place it in the window. :)

Touching, attention, every stop turning into a car show, it's just part of it. You can either rage against the dying of the light, or you can just accept it and slip into it like a warm bath.

I have had probably a hundred people of all ages, (even a dog once) in my car for pictures, and who knows how many leaning against it when I'm not around. Not once has it been damaged other than the occasional scratch that blends right out and to be honest, the deepest scratch put there by yours truly dragging a metal poster frame perpendicular to the grain over the left fender...came right out too. One more thing, this car is not a "shanty" example of the marque, it's pretty damn nice and it has weathered the last several years of people touching it just fine.

If you really wanna get people to stop touching the car, hook up an electroshock device wired to the panels...that otta stop 'em. hehe.

For those who keep their doors open, you could always get some of that fake dog poo and put it in the seats...not very many people gonna try n sit in there.

Id say get some imperial stormtroopers to guard it, but given they cant hit the broad side of a barn at point blank range, the folks would have gotten in, got their pics and left by the time the troopers could hit them.
