Torque spec for valve adjustment nut?

Is there a widely accepted torque spec for the valve adjustment nut? I've seen one guy say something like 20-30 ft pounds, but on other engines it's significantly less. I just don't want to strip anything.

I heard 40 ft lbs somewhere as well. I just used a standard wrench and got them tight, not breaker bar or torque wrench tight. My guess is i landed somewhere in the 40 ft lbs range.

In my opinion, 30-40 ft/lbs if you are using a torque wrench is too much. I was not brave enough to try it. The stud is M8 and mine were definitely not that tight originally. I used 22ft/lbs which was tighter than originally set and slightly more than the lubricated 10.9 M8 General (https://www.fastenal.com/content/feds/pdf/Torque-Tension%20Chart%20for%20Metric%20Fasteners.pdf) spec and my adjustment has held since I posted in that thread.

Tight enough so it doesn't move but not so tight as to break anything. There is usually no torque spec because as you tighten the lock nut you change the adjustment. By getting it tighter or looser you can change the gap just enough to make it just what you want. Takes a bit if experience and just the right touch.
