What are the right "RedStuff" brake pads to get - link?

Hi Guys,
I keep hearing the "red stuff" pads help make braking a little bit better. Anyone know what model/product number to get on those or have a link? I would get them all the way around.

Anything special or extra that needs to be acquired to use them? I plan to also Delorean Europe's Brake Kit 2 installed with has spacers: http://www.delorean.eu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=20_144&products_id=168051

I'm also running Ed's vented rotors w/ spacers. Motul DOT 5.1 fluid. Very happy with the overall combination!

Although I have not fitted them myself, Mike Ward suggested that yellow stuff ones were a better choice. Work better at the lower temperature I think. I have Green Stuff at the moment myself but will try the yellows soon.

Reds will be better at street temps. I can confirm with the redstuff that effort is consistent between cold and hot, from ambient temps ranging 40F to 100F.

I've not tried the yellow, but I have friends that race and have back-to-back ran red & yellow and said that you need to heat things up before the yellowstuff will fully bite. Might not be where you want your pads to be after a drive on the highway. Yellowstuff will probably be dustier, noisier, and harder on rotors, the tradeoff being better braking at higher temperatures.

To add some further info on the Yellow Stuff pads, they were recommended to me by another UK owner, James Strain (jwrayth), who spoke to EBC regarding the different pads available:

My conversation with EBC was pretty much;

- Green Stuff is for fast driving/heavy braking, generates little dust. Not worth it on a DeLorean unless you are pushing a lot of power over stock.
- Red Stuff is for high performance cars street cars and similarly DeLorean probably never pushes enough power to get maximum use.
- Yellow Stuff is for street / occasional track use/spirited driving. Superior cold braking, and designed for cars in the power range of the DeLorean

I can't speak to the performance of the green or red stuff pads, as I went straight from original pads to Yellow stuff pads.

I have been running the yellow stuff pads for almost a year now, and have been impressed with how they have performed. :thumbup:

Same here, I got the yellow stuff pads with EDs power brake kit, very nice upgrade, makes less noise I find when braking, and not anymore brake dust to mention. Thumbs up from me!

DOT 5 from our experience will attack stock brake component rubber. Haven't tried it with new seals and master update on stock caliper rebuilds. Our brake system upgrade does take advantage of DOT 5.

I can't speak to silicone "5" as in literally "DOT 5 FULL STOP", but DOT 5.1 "five dot one" is compatible on paper with 3 & 4.

I feel like calling it 5.1 makes it the "jar of brown M&M's" of the brake world - It exists just to find out who is paying attention. Whoever decided on this nomenclature deserves a few slaps.

Motul 5.1 is a street car formula and specs out better than any 3 or 4, including GTLMA. I might bleed a little off this summer just to check color but I put about 1600 miles on it in a variety of conditions and don't anticipate any issues. I also don't believe the "only GTLMA or you'll destroy the tender all-natural rubber seals" myth. I've ran a few non-GTLMA fluids over the years without issue.

I also want to reiterate than the redstuff vs yellowstuff description posted in this thread directly contradicts EBC's own literature. I'm sure yellowstuff is better than OEM or OEM-like but redstuff is almost certainly a better pad formula for most drivers. Redstuff is for street and Yellowstuff is for track/street.

This week :) - For taxation reasons it needed a legal name (as well as a trading name - "DeLorean Go"), and sometimes it's nice to have a name with a level of anonymity when dealing with some suppliers so they don't hike the prices up ;)
