So after removing my binnacle and replacing all bulbs I went to re connect my upper speedo cable and it shows the car is going way to fast. When I stop the car the needle rests on the 10 mph zone. Some hotshot put a 170 mph speedo in my car at some point, I'm not a fan of it. Now before I removed my binnacle the speedo was working just fine. I have replaced the angle drive and the lower cable, any tips would be appreciated.

also I will add that my trip meter reset makes the odometer move (the white number on the end).

tested the upper cable with a drill attached, it must be something with the upper cable or speedometer itself.

It is probably just the needle on the speedo isn't zeroed well.

When you say it reads too fast, can you give us some values of how inaccurate it is? You say zero reads 10 mph. What does it read when you are going 20 mph, 40 mph, 60 mph? Please also include a photo of your speedo so we can see the graduations as it increases. A certain amount of movement lower in the speedo of 10 mph might be equal to 20 mph of movement higher in the gauge.

Is the odometer accurate or does it read more miles than you actually travel?

Great question, Dave. If the odometer is still accurate and the speedo isn't, you know it's not anything leading up from the wheel to the top of the upper speedo cable, and may just be the needle isn't on correctly.

It may be the cable is not seated properly and is pressing on bearings in the speedo.

Assuming the odometer is reading correctly, the speedometer head must be calibrated. It is done by spinning it at 1.000 RPM's and adjusting the spring to read 60 MPH. If the faceplate was changed and the head was not recalibated it will not read accurately. The best way to check if the odometer is accurate is to go on a highway and watch the mile markers. The longer you do that the more accurate you can be. There are shops that can calibrate your speedometer head but you must remove it from the car and send it out. If the odometer is NOT accurate I would suspect somehow the angle drive is not correct. It could have been replaced with the wrong gears. The other way it could be off is if you have the wrong size tires on the front.

It's reads more miles than I actually travel. It rolls quickly

About the only thing that could do that would be installing an incorrectly geared angle drive. Which I've never heard of.

I am also going to re check the needle, I removed it to check the trip meter.

came across the instructions for replacing the trip meter reset. noticed in them that it says mark where the stop is on the speedometer, i think that when i checked my trip meter to lubricate it i put the needle on to high. i ordered a new trip reset as mine was cracked, not broken yet. we will see when i put it all back together, thanks for all the replies they were helpful.
