In case anyone is looking for a good double-DIN install kit for the Delorean, I found the Metra 95-9012 seemed to work pretty good. It's designed for VW's, but seemed to have the best style for the opening I had. The PO of my car had installed a single-DIN in place of the original 2-shaft years ago, and had hacked things up pretty good in the process, so I'm not sure if the opening I was working with will be what others will be working with, but with a few minor modifications, this kit slid right in. I needed to make a 'lip' of sorts on the bottom to secure it in place. If anyone is curious, I can photograph that and show it.
The kit is about $12 on Amazon, and about $8 on eBay.

By the way, I am using 3" diameter flex duct to route the air from the vents directly in to the footwells. I don't know if this will work good enough to keep the car cool in the summer time, but I'm going to give it a shot. If it doesn't seem adequate, I'll add the vents in the kneepads as I've seen others (Pat, I think) have done. If I can avoid cutting OEM pieces that are still intact, I will. My theory is that with such a small volume of air in the cockpit, this should be good enough, but we'll see when summer comes.

Would be nice if DMC would make a plate for double din.

Nice find! I wonder if blowing AC through the defroster vents would be enough to cool the car in summer.

Most of the benefit of the vents is that the air blows on your skin, so you feel cool.

In A/C mode the majority of the air, around 3/4 of it, comes from the center air vents. It is most effective when it is blowing directly onto a person. One reason why the door vents aren't as good, you can't aim them to blow on you. If the center vents aren't working the effect of the A/C is greatly diminished. You should try to have some kind of center vent, not the defroster vents or the foot well vents. When it gets hot (and it gets REALLY HOT!) you will see what I mean.

I was considering getting one of those stereos with the screens that fold out and fabricating a peice that would fit where the center vent is and guide the air around the sides of the screen, that way when using the heater it would still work.

If you don't mind cutting the car up you can do one of those screens that levitate up out of the dash like in the newer Audi's. That wouldn't interfere with the vents and you could see it easily while driving.

Thanks Pat - coming from the guy who has what I consider the best looking audio set up, I take that as a high complement. I do plan to do an android tablet based system someday, but it just wasn't in the budget at the moment.
Cool install! I went the complicated way, still a work in progress.
As the others have said, you want the air to blow on you, so you will find blowing it into the footwells to not be adequate. Pat did a nice job integrating his vents into the knee pads.

Wow - that looks awesome. Yes, I do plan to install airvents in the kneepads if the AC doesn't seem adequate. Right now, the heat seems just fine, but heat rises. :) So we'll see come summer time. I like what you did, but I would imagine it was a lot of work to get it that way. Eventually, I'd like to replace the entire console with a larger tablet like what bttws did (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?12791-Digital-Dash-Project&p=200998&viewfull=1#post200998). Right now I know my own time limitations and can't undertake such a project.

Thank you for the compliment! I think the setup you've got will make you very happy, but I think when summer hits you will definitely be looking to put the vents in the knee pads.

Im currently working on a double din plate that replaces the factory radio and vent plate. I deff did not want to loose my center vents. What I have so far is the vents still in there normal location, I then shifted the double din opening to the far right just below the vents. TO get the space I needed to move the climate controls around a bit. With the radio to the right I mounted the head light and hazard switches next to the radio.
Im sure that all sounded very confusing. lol I am printing up a 3d model probe tomorrow or Wednesday to check fit before making one out of SS. The climate controls still need to be 3d scanned so that I can more easily manipulate them in inventor. Ill post pictures tomorrow of what I have so far.
