crack in glass near mirror button

So I finally get fed up with not having a rear view and I start looking at the mirror button closer. Some jackass not only glued it on upside down there is a crack in the area as well! Obviously I know that I can get a windshield from DMC but who does installs? I live in the dallas area or is this a trip to Houston thing?

I've read various answers to the 'how to get a windshield replaced' question and will let the community chime in on that aside from saying Houston certainly knows how to do it.

BUT, you mention a jackass, the one who glued the mirror pedestal on upside down. Did that jackass 'glue' the pedestal directly to the glass or was it properly attached with a double-sided sticky pad? Bet it was a directly-glued mistake. Which caused your crack.

I've gotten away with replacing my own. I measured how far the roof structure sat from the fiberglass body and reinstalled it the same distance away. Once the old glass was out my roof did sag a little bit so I needed a jack to raise it to the proper measurement.

If you don't work on cars then it's not something easy to do. You need to cut the old windshield out, prep the areas, by then I replaced the A post trim since it's glued under the windshield, prime everything, urethane it in and leave it for a few days.

Honestly your best bet is to send it to a vendor, they have the proper jig for the roof structure.

i had a gentleman install my windshield for $80. I did pull out the window and remove the urathane for him though! Call around and get an installer that is well experienced, they should be more than happy to do the install.

In my experience installing a windsheild on a delorean is the same as any other car. The only difference is making sure the roof is supported. The windshield is structual in our cars, when you take it out the roof sags a little. To remedy this, remove the shifter area to expose the fiberglass body and jack the roof up from there with a bottle jack. To determine how much jacking is necessary, remove the urethane from the window frame and dry fit the new windshield. You want to look at the area in the top middle, right in front of the t panel. Make sure this gap is closed and resultantly the whole upper portion of the window. There is some good info on the forum about windshield replacement.

no special tools needed, just some 2x4s and a bottle jack (stole it from the kit in my truck!)

For Josh and other DeLorean tech gurus out there this is not a big deal, but I'd agree with the couple earlier posts that recommend taking it to a vendor. Your door alignment can get messed up if you don't do this right.

I've done a number of large jobs on my car, but this is one I'd personally bring it into a vendor for (and that would be a 6 hour drive for me).
