Need help to ID thread size.

So it's this how it always goes? I tackled a large project (replaced all springs and shocks) and I'm stuck on the last nut!!

I wasn't able to get the bottom of the old shock off the bolt, and couldn't move that bolt inwards, so I tapped it with a hammer. A few times. I got it to where it needed to go, got the old shock off and new one on, only to find I've damaged the threads on the bolt. I took the nut to Home Depot to see if I could ID it on their little bolt display, but they only have coarse threads there, and that's not it. It looks like 1/2"in, but even then I don't know if the Delorean uses Standard (because it's a US car) or metric (because it was made in the UK).

Anyway, here's the bolt I need to ID so I can buy a die and re-thread it.

It's 1/2 NF thread one of the few SAE bolts in the car.

Just to clarify the pitch it's a 1/2"x20 Npt. (20 threads per inch).

NPT is (national pipe tapered) thread. [emoji6]. 1/2"-20 is NF ( national fine) thread.

The photo is a bit blurry. It looks like you mushroomed the end. If that's the case you may have to replace it. Btw, make sure the suspension is loaded before you tighten things up. I like to raise the hub carrier until the corner lifts off the jack stand then tighten the bolts.

In that case, do you know the thread/pitch of the nut for 108347 (Figure 1), or even have a spare nut for the bolt? I am missing the nut and from what I am told it is a very odd size.

I'm afraid that I don't. My post was in poor condition when I bought the car, so I replaced it with a length of 5/16" brass threaded rod.

If I had to guess, I would say it's probably M8 x 1.0 (usual thread pitch is 1.25).

That is a strange size as it's not metric, nor an inch size (closest to a 5/16x24 but not quite), nor is it British Standard Whitworth! Though they are NLA from DMCH I do have a few NOS 108347 stud kits in inventory if you don't mind buying the whole stud asm. You can PM me if you want one.

Thanks for the advice re: loading.

As for the mushrooming, I think it's ok, as I stared (growled) at this thing for some time and didn't notice any. But I'll have a closer look before I start to re-thread it.

Good to know. If you were closer, I'd have come by Saturday night, as I really wanted to make it to cars-n-coffee. If my bolt ends up being unusable, I will swing by for sure.
