My car has black side stripes that were put on in a very crappy way. I'm planning on taking them off and putting new side stripes on. What should I use to clean off whatever gunk is probably going to be there when I take them off?
Also, for those of you that I put side stripes on - what do you do when you get to the edges of the door? Do you wrap the stripe around it? That's kind of how these ones are currently done and that is where the stripes are coming off the door is where they are bent around. Thank you

Is it an aftermarket stripe? My first car had one, I used a heat gun on it & it peeled right off.
I also removed a worn grey stripe; I think I used acetone and/or Goof-Off.
I might have pics....I'll see what I can dig up.

When I put my after market stripes on I heated up the glue around the edges and once I wrapped them around the corners I held them in place with little clamps for 24 hrs.. also, I made sure to clean all the surfaces with alcohol prior to sticking the stripes. I've had no issues with them pealing.

3M makes a spray on adhesive remover. I have yet to find ANY glue that can stand up to it!
Should be available at most autoparts stores.

I did one side of my car with a heat gun. It took a long time and seemed to reactivate the adhesive. I did the second side cold and just pulled the stripes off. For both sides, I used Goof Off, but the cold side went a lot faster.
