Wheel rim corrosion

Greetings,
New owner here with questions. Working on my first task putting new tires on the car. Noticed corrosion on the inside of the wheel rims (see picture of worst area). These rims look to be coated or painted. Does this look to be original and if so is this corrosion a common thing? For now I'm just cleaning things up. Later this summer I will want to address the issue. What needs to be done? The outside of the wheels look fine. Could I take the corroded areas down to bare metal and repaint? How tricky is it to paint the inside rim without impacting the outside look? Any other suggestions.

Mine had a decent amount of interior corrosion. As far as tire changes are concerned you will need to use a lot of tire snot. I don't know about painting them really but for the cost my plan was to send them of to be restored or do a wheel exchange when the time comes .

That is from animals urinating on the wheels. Wire brush it. Or if you are having the rims done they will blast them anyway and clean it up. It is cosmetic. If it is on the bead area of the rim where the tire seals to the rim, it can cause a slow leak. The corrosion must be removed, the metal smoothed as much as possible and probably tire sealer like Camel Bead Sealer to stop any air leaks.

I had to have one new tire removed because of bead leak. There was very bad corrosion on the bead area. Cleaned it all up and that fixed the leak.

I appreciate all the comments. Reassuring (I think) to know that this wheel corrosion is somewhat common. I've got the corrosion cleaned up for now and am having the new tires put on. At some point I may be back to ask what folks have done to recondition their wheels. Seems the trick will be to repaint (re cote ... powder cote ... ??) the wheels and end up matching the original look.

Off topic for this thread, but I am very interested in the replacement relays you offer. Would you say the fan relay replacement would perhaps be the first choice (highest priority)?

Also, I think I read that fan operation can be verified without starting the engine by turning the key fully on and then turning on the AC? Is this correct. I should then observe both radiator fans running?

Most important is the RPM relay. Not good to have your engine stop on a highway.

If your AC is charged, you can run the fans without the engine running switching the AC to on. If it's real cold (below 50 deg. F) that may not work.
