Where do these vacuum connect to

I need some advice on vacuum lines. In the picture there is 2 items circled.

1). Left side circle: Where does this line connect to at both ends? Does this connect to the thin hard line that passes thru the firewall?

2). Right side circle: What is this and what is its function?

The picture is tiny, but left side looks to be the main line, plastic, under the console that connects to the vacuum switch and supplies the vacuum. Right side looks to be the water valve that closes when you turn the AC on, behind the engine.
