Is there a tutorial on replacing the steering rack?

My steering is pretty wishy-washy i'm thinking about replacing the steering and putting one of those vibration dampener widgets on there. Does anybody know of a steering rack replacement walk-through?
Or anybody done it that could tell me about how much time Werthers anything tricky about it? Thank you

If I recall, if you order the rack from one of the DMC vendors they provide a step by step guide.
I have done it and it's not that difficult. There are some rubber bushings that are a bit of a pain/
When you remove the tie rod ends count the turns so you can get it close when you re-install. Also make sure you have an alignment done after.

Exactly what Steve said.. mechanically it's a pretty easy job, took me about an hour. Disconnect the tie rods from the spindle's remove the two brackets on the breast plate holding it in (spray with WD40 first I snapped a bolt) and then disconnect the steering column at the rack. It will slide out fairly easy with some twisting and turning. Putting it back in was a pain trying to get the rubber bushings positioned correctly but with a little prying and twisting it eventually went. I will say it's much easier to do with a hoist if you have one available to use. Good luck!

I do recommended checking for play in the tie rod ends and ball joints as well as the wheel bearings before you replace it. Most likely it's the rack but I'd check it all just to be sure. I'd also suggest replacing the outer tie rods while you have them off, the DMCH rack doesn't come with the tie rods included. If it appears the inner tie rod is the problem then you will need to either rebuild or replace the whole rack.

As been mentioned it is a relatively easy job. The one bushing is a pain in the rear but not impossible to re-install. Get an alignment after and you are off to the races.
