New Steering Rack

Just installed a new steering rack plus the steering column bushing. Wow, what a difference. You mean this is how it was supposed to drive? It feels like a new car and handles so much better. I'm sorry I went 4 years on the old rack.

Night and day when I replaced mine. The inner rods were totally shot and the bushing was missing. What a difference indeed!

The steering wheel is just turning.

Hmm, well mine wasn't doing that. It was simply hard to turn, rattled (although I never realized it) and imprecise.

That sure looks like excessive play in the rack. Could be the outer tie rod ends but ill bet its in the rack.

I doubt it. That play is probably in the inner tie rods, there is plastic bushings inside that wear out. Try to craw under or get the car in the air and tug on the inner rods, if they move around that's no good.

That is play/wear in the pinion shaft assembly....most likely the bearings. I'd suggest one of our rebuilt racks or our rebuild kit if you want to DIY. It has everything you need for a complete rack rebuild that will outlast both NOS and reproduction racks.

Yes to all three questions. The additional core charge of $250- for the complete rack is not applied unless we don't recieve the core back within 30 days of shipping out the rebuilt rack.

$395 for the rack + $250 core = $645 + shipping

An alternative would be to buy an available core from someone on this forum or other Delorean venue that is stateside and have them ship it directly to us for a core. This has been done before and could be another option you might investigate for a cost savings.
