There are 1500 pair that have been made. They are being auctioned off 150 pair / day on a special sub-site of ebay. Sales benefit the Michael J Fox Foundation.

They are not self lacing, sadly.

Shoes with lights. Apparently Doc Brown came to the wrong year so the 2011 Mags are not self lacing but the 2015 Mags will.

They are not self lacing, but they look the part with working lights.

I'm going to revise my original statement, I think the first pairs will bring more than 1,500.00. I believe it will not be uncommon to see $2,500.00+ ending bid amounts.

After this, I bet you couldnt give away a pair of 2015 Hyperdunks.

My friend's comment after reading the news today, in an email to some other guys we know:

"don't worry, nobody will be able to buy them.

they're making 1,500 pairs and auctioning them off on ebay.

that means that out of the 15,000,000,000 people in this world, who indeed
all want a pair of future nike's, only 1,500 will be able to own a pair.

but really, it's more like 20 of the world's richest people will be able to
buy a pair, at exorbitant ebay prices, and re-sell the extra pairs they buy
at an even more outrageous price, widening the divide between the super-rich
shoe-owners and the common man.

so thank you, nike, for creating an artificial shortage of supply, leading
to a class war between those with future-shoes and those without, hastening
the end of civilization.

thank you."

Yup, have to look at it in that light. This is one pair that will just not be in my future.....even if I think in 4 dimensions.

Really though, I would only want a pair to wear at nightly cruise-ins. If anyone really wants a pair just for that a chap on youtube makes them for 500.00 a pair, working lights as well.

PS...10 minutes in and some pairs are over 6 grand...er, make that 10 grand....that's right 10 thousand dollars for 1 pair, and no signs of slowing down. These are going to fetch more than an actual time machine from videobob

I did read that they may make you pre qualify to bid. By taking a deposit via a credit card or thru other means. Will be interesting to watch the prices over the next few days. I am willing to spend 500 maybe more if they are my size. But, I doubt that's gonna happen. Anyone wanna buy my size 12 Nike 6.0s? They still have the original paper shoved in them by a kid in china. May have to sell them to finance these shoes.

Did anyone catch how the shoe is being regarded as the 'predecessor to the 2015 self-lacing Air Mag?' Are they just milking the early adopters for a shoe that may be released later with the self-lacing feature? Perhaps in 4 more years?

Anyway, the auctions all seem to be around $3-4k for the first 150 pairs. I suspect the price will fall a bit(but still in the thousands/pair) as the auctions progress. We'll see.

So even if I was mad enough to pay the money, I'd be deterred by the suggestions that these might be replaced in the future by a cheaper and better model.

He said us BTTF guys are out of our minds, and god bless us. Love it!

I'm thinking they're making these available in advance for people who will pay, and that they'll release a 2015 power-lacing version later. They say in the video power laces in 2015, and at the FAQ section of the auction page they say the same. They might be joking, but why else in the world are these shoes being released in 2011 and not 2015 unless they are planning a re-release?

Okay, so I'm NOT crazy... at least, for that reason...

The way it was before, I was seeing an $80,000.00 pair of shoes, which, to me, prompted this bit of math:

1262: MAYBE $15,000.00
1601: Lucky to get $35,000.00
1970 Cadillac: $3,000.00 in present condition.
Dodge Monaco #1: MAYBE $6,000.00
Dodge Monaco #2: $2,000.00
Bricklin: $20,000.00
1976 Eldorado: $2,500.00
1977 New Yorker: $1,000.00 and only this because of 440 and trans.
1981 Mercedes-Benz: $2,400.00

Total: $87,900.00; which means that the shoes would be worth close to the value of my entire car collection, assuming a best-possible sales price for all my cars. In reality, I'd be lucky to get close to that. I'm glad to see that the shoes aren't going for that much. Not that I have anything against charity, but I think it's insane to pay that for a pair of shoes that will never be worn.

Guys, remember these are for charity! Which means what ever you buy them for, thats tax deductible! :tongue_stick:

That's a tricky road. I have attended a few charity auctions and although I ususally don't claim them, (the way I see it, I'm getting something for my money), you must deduct the value of the shoes from the price you pay. Maybe Nike sends a MSRP statement with the shoes, or maybe you guestimate it. Like I said I have never claimed contributions in which I receive something, but in the cases of my contributions such as tithes, etc., the deduction is not all its cracked up to be at the end of the day.

Ballpark guestimate,.if you claim 5k deduction for the sneakers, you may save a few hundred on your taxes. That's using my situation, others my be completely different.

Cheapest pair so far - $2500
Dearest - $10,500

and some idiot paid $1199 for a single 4" ceramic model, even though the questions at the bottom asked "what size are these shoes" :)

If you view it like the PBS fundraisers - become a Gold Member Patron of the Foundation for only $2500 and receive this special edition pair of shoes from BTTF, then $2500 doesn't seem so extreme.

Won the auction I was bidding on. Like most of my shoe collection these will never be worn. I'm looking into having a display built for these and the Delorean dunks together.

I saw an article in the paper that said they had raised $5.7 million for the charity from the shoes. If that means all pairs have now been sold, it would equal an average of $3,800 per pair. Yikes, that's a lot of cake.

A friend who works for NIKE pointed out that "NIKE +" indicates the "technology division." She also comented that the release date is Martin Luhter King Day and the smoke cloud is sort of Rastafarian or African colors.

For what it's worth...

MLK day is the 16th not the 19th, though.

I read in the comments on youtube that "MAG owners" (I guess those that have them and registered them) received a cryptic email from Nike linking them to this video. So surely it's not Rastafarian colors, but related to the LED lights on the heel of the MAGs.

That said, I'm trying to not get my hopes up. As much as I'd like a pair of MAGs, Nike's track record of stupidity keeps me very skeptical.

Did any of you see this a few days ago? Nike enjoys torturing people with their bullsh*t limited releases.

Yeah, I went to their Youtube page on the 19th, with no expectations at all. Saw the video of the fuelband, and dismissed it as being "the thing" of the 1-19-12 release. Was waiting for something else for the rest of the day, but yeah.... nothing. That fuelband was it.

Wow. [/sarcasm]

Yeah I know... it's just that I was so fixated on it at least being some sort of shoe. There was speculation that it was going to be these shoes, which supposedly "self lace." And what Jimmy Fallon or the announcer says here also jived with the 1-19-12 timing. Note the colors of the tab on the heels.
