which brings me to a question I have been wondering about - why were there no LS swaps for the first 30 or so years and now it seems like there is a new one each month? What changed? Was it just that Nick proved it could be done? Greater availability of LS engines?

I think Nick really opened the door. Not to say that there haven't been cool swaps in the past (sbc 350s, 4.3s, etc)

I was certainly surprised back in 2011 to find that no one had ever LS swapped a DeLorean. At that point the LS platform had still already been around for about 14 years and was already popular for swapping.

Honestly, I'm surprised too that it seems to have caught on so much. It seems like maybe a lot of people were wondering if it would fit and work, but no one was ready to take the risk without being sure that it would work. I'm by no means complaining though; I love seeing everyone taking this on, especially as everyone takes it and puts their own spin on it. Seeing the variety of methods for attacking each system, whether it be intake, exhaust, engine management, mounting, transmissions, etc. has been awesome.

To be honest though, there was always somewhat of a stigma when it came to engine swapping a DeLorean. There have been a lot of examples of cars that ended up bastardized, unreliable, or extremely devalued from past engine swaps. Even when I was doing my swap, I didn't go "public" with my swap until AFTER it was running, because I didn't want everyone telling me not to do it, or that I was going to ruin my car. I think that waiting until after it was running showed that A. it could be done, and B. be done tastefully. I've always felt like my swap, as well as all the subsequent LS swaps have been very well received by most of the community. Perhaps this greater acceptance has led more people to do it as well. Before this, it seems like the only acceptable swap was the 3.0L PRV.
