Strange box found in my Delorean

So, I was looking to see if I had the blue fan fail relay of death in my Delorean and I found this:

Does anyone know what this is? I was going to buy the fused wire link from DMC but I might not need it now if this device does the trick.

Thats a keeper. Thats a fan sequencer for the factory fans to help diminish the draw and drain on fan start up on the rest of the electrical system.

It's also melting, like many Fanzilla units do.

You can make a small modification to bypass the breaker (not needed since the Fanzilla has its own fuses). I posted about it here:

That IS a Fanzilla. They are hard to get, they are no longer made. Known for their quality. Check the relay block for any signs of heat damage where it p[lugs in and make sure you have the correct size fuses in it. You can also test it to make sure the fan fail light works. It certainly is a keeper.

I think the real evolution to the FanZilla are the solid state relays that Bitsyncmaster sells (Dave M.). They use modern technology and are much less bulky than a FanZilla. All of Dave's relays are worthwhile investments/upgrades.

Fanzilla is some pretty old school tech, not sure why it is held with such high regard.
There are alternative options. Dave's offerings, and low power fans offered by vendors.

It is held in "High Regard" because it is very well made and has a low failure rate. Back in the day it was the only really good solution besides the bypass wires. Would have been even more popular but they were pricey at the time. Even still, IMHO well worth it. It is an elegant, truly plug and play solution to a problem the factory didn't solve.

Okay. It was good in its day. That's nice. There are far better solutions nowadays.

Actually that isn't the choice. It is near impossible to get a Fanzilla, they aren't sold new anymore and used ones don't show up for sale often. The point here is if you have one (and it is working) you are good. If you don't have one (or your Fanzilla isn't working) you need to do something and your choices are limited. You can:

Try to find a Fanzilla (good luck)
Use the fan fail bypass relay jumpers and check them often
Get Dave M's relay
Get what the vendors are selling (which in some cases may be Dave M's relay)
Install newer fans with lower current draw

As for better, the Fanzilla does what it does and lasts. Any newer solution will do the same thing. One feature I particularly like with the Fanzilla is that it sequences the fans so they don't both start at the same time. Makes it easier on the electrical system.
