How to remove the ASI radio

I've read the thread on how to remove the Craig radio (Forum > MAIN FORUMS > General DeLorean Discussion > [Electrical] How to remove the Craig Radio?), but I'm trying to remove the ASI radio, and there are some 'extra' wires that are stopping me from taking it out.

What I've done so far:

Removed the big vents.
Removed the two rubber vent extensions.
Removed the left and right knobs and retaining nuts.
Unplugged the antenna.
Unplugged the white connector.


All that went very well and easy - but now there are several "other wires" (blue, black, red, white, yellow) that are also connected to the back of the radio, that are NOT part of the 'big' white connector. And those "other wires" lead into a 'nest' of other wires behind the control console.

From all my reading, I've not seen anyone mention how to disconnect the "other wires".

Do I have to remove the center console to get to these "other wires"? When I try to trace the most prominent wire (the blue one), it just 'disappears' into wires below...

Thoughts?

As a guess, I'd say those wires are perhaps related to the power antenna.

Having said that, I would recommend you take the console off (the leather part that goes back as far as the coin tray and all the way up and over the front centre HVAC vents) to let you see better what is going on from the side.

I'd also suggest removing the center console (not the part with the ac controls)...It'll make it easier to see where things are going back there..and allow you to clean it out..hehe.

Yeah, Dimitri replied to my FB post saying:

"yes, on ASI you have 5 more wire (blue red yellow black and white) for the power alimentation, +12 v antenna, dimmer and a ground. It's normal, you just have to disconnect them"

From what I can see though, the wires disappear into the "rats nest" of wires below, so it's not obvious how to 'disconnect them' without taking apart the center console. And I'm just not keen to disassemble the console for this... another owner suggested clipping the wires and soldering them back (with extensions) when I go to install the radio again.

Well, it is easier to work on the wires from the side, rather than through the radio hole.

I actually got a connector that fits the stock one and wired a new radio to that...that way when I go to replace it, I just have to unplug it, and wire the new radio to the connector in the future.

AHhh... that's a great idea... to just get a 5-wire D-connector male/female plug... hmm...

There are 9 pins....just map out where each on the plug go to...then its easy to wire a new stereo to fit.

This is the connector I have...9 pin. I spent a while mapping each pin on that, then mapping the wires from the radio.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here... I'm not sure you read post #1 - or looked at the photos.

I'm sorry that I'm not understanding what you're suggesting. Are you saying to combine the other 5 wires with the existing connector?

Or can you give me more detail? I want to understand what you're saying, but I cannot understand your suggestions from such short answers.

That thread Dana posted is a good one.

I am just giving an idea on making what would essentially an extension you can use to plug any stereo into the car, without having to redo the wiring under the dash. Can use it to wire in almost any stereo...and after you have the initial plug made you can replace without having to get drastic like removing the center console.

Using the wiring diagram I made a chart of what pins have what running on them, such as power(keyed), power always, speakers, etc.. Then because the wire colors on my new connecter were different I made a chart as to what correlated to the official colors.

My pictures are prolly a lil bit of a mess cause I was just using a donor stereo (no usb or anything, can you beleive it?), So I could check all my connections.

Did I just confuse things more?
