Gas tank closing plate

Removed my fuel tank closing plate for refurbishment. Probably galvanise then powder coat. Drilling some drainage holes - any suggestions on size of drainage holes?

No need to drill holes at all. The flutes on the side serve two purposes....added strength and water drainage. The rust you are see invariably has the same origin/cause. Brake fluid from a leaky brake master cylinder. If there is a better liquid paint stripper please someone let me know.

Took my closing plate to be powder coated. Looking for a tank pad replacement? Or is it not that big a deal? Yes I know DMC has them. Was thinking aftermarket.

I would skip the pad. I installed a pad when I powder coated my closing plate mine years ago,. It didn't seem to do much other than to provide a place for moisture to collect on the closing plate.
