I should have been doing this from the start, but it just hit me that I haven't been sharing the links to the episodes here.

So, going forward, I'll share in this thread too.

As a new DeLorean owner with lots of questions, I thought this would be a great way to get to know the community, find some answers and get different perspectives on everything DeLorean – whether that be driving the car, repairing it, finding parts, talking about the history of the factory, John Z. DeLorean and his life or the car shows and events that individuals and clubs do around the world.

I hope you’ll join me in these discussions with owners, fans and anyone with a connection to the iconic DeLorean Motor Car.

Keep the new episodes coming! I've been listening to these on my commutes and really enjoy hearing from other DeLorean owners in this type of relaxed conversational format.

For anyone who hasn't listened to Episode 002 with Barry Wills, it's a must listen episode in my opinion. Lots of interesting first hand stories about the process of procuring the parts to build the cars from the beginning of DMCL thru the receivership.

I also recommend episode 004 for obvious reasons as well :)

I listened to Ken's over the weekend; great episode. As someone that spent almost every thursday night at his shop from 2007-2012, it was a nice trip down memory lane. Those were pretty golden years for my DMC ownership. Getting to work with Ken and Cliff all those nights are some of my best memories as an owner. Also, there was nothing like the DCS prep. It was all hands on deck. I was fortunate to get to help in some capacity with Gettysburg, Lexington, Orlando, and Dayton, and it really was a treat getting to help pull those together.

Shame because it was a well put together podcast. I only discovered it around 2022 or so and retroactively listened to all the episodes while I was manufacturing the products I sold to save up for my DeLorean. On a self serving note, was kind of looking forward to telling my story on the podcast since the way I saved up was kind of unique.

Just another ?flash in the pan? owner. I think he got a little too busy with his mouse stuff.

Flash in the pan?? Seriously? Dave created 40 hours of well put together content. That?s not insignificant at all.

I spoke with him recently, and while I guess you think he should have kept doing it in perpetuity, he stated there is a significant amount more of other content available online now than there used to be, and it took a lot of work to make Delorean Talk episodes. No need to add more.

You could watch the entirety of both Firefly and Freaks and Geeks, twice, and that would last as long as the full Delorean Talk library. Should it have been another Simpsons? How much do you want the guy to do for free? It was an enjoyable series. Enjoy it, and move on.

I spoke with him recently, and while I guess you think he should have kept doing it in perpetuity, he stated there is a significant amount more of other content available online now than there used to be, and it took a lot of work to make Delorean Talk episodes. No need to add more.

Oh, absolutely. As someone who does long-form YouTube content (https://www.youtube.com/aaroncake) myself, it takes a huge amount of work. One of those DeLorean Talk podcasts was probably 30+ hours to put together. I get it and if it was time to end, it was time to end.

I put a significant amount of time into gatherings/events for owners. Used to be for this community. But, I?ve started to do some for other car communities instead. Ones that remind me what this community used to be and is no more. I am very familiar with putting in time for free.

I think the countless DeLorean Facebook groups broke our community. When everyone used to turn to the DeLorean Mailing List (I'm dating myself here) or later DMCTalk.com (before we lost all the great information we had there), we had a much more close knit group of owners online and all of our information was in one spot. Now it is all over the place and you need to be following 50 different Facebook groups.

I agree with you 100% Patrick. I?m an ?old head? now and tend to only interact with just a handful of long timers like myself and just a couple of newer owners. The other ?beginning of the end? was the value jump of 2015. It garnered a whole new group of owners just looking for clout and to be cool. And to make a quick buck. Turned the hobby for the worst, unfortunately. Social media has definitely splintered us more than it brought us together.

Same here. Even though I will help owners asking questions on face book, any of that help gets lost forever in one week. I would probably never post technical data on any online sites except for DMCtalk. I do enjoy sharing information on things I've found or developed.

I appreciate you explaining this because I have been a bit confused as to what happened. I bought my DeLorean in 2001 and DML was my only source of information. I guess the groups.io transition from Yahoo Groups didn't take because there's not a lot there in recent years. Over the years I figured out that DMCTalk is a great source of information but have been offline from here since about 2015. I am a bit lost as so much has changed --- including the vendor landscape. I am not really a fan of Facebook but it is surprising there isn't one high-volume group.

Unfortunately, fb killed a lot of (if not most) forums. The splintering to many groups sucks, but not nearly as hard as the format of fb.

Unsearchable. Uncategorizable. Non-linear in timeline. Comments change order and many/most are hidden. Unable to directly respond/quote.
It?s the absolute fucking worst.

A-frick'n-MEN!

FB is a purposeful algorithm time suck. Not for me. I love it here even if it is a little less active. And yeah, I'm older than Patrick, now get off my lawn! ;)

Yea, I don?t understand why people go to the fb groups. I?m a member of several forums for different interests. It just seems like the obvious thing to do. Of course, I work on everything I own. Most people, I guess, are just showing off on fb.

Yup, you pretty much nailed it.

Facebook seems to be set up that way by design to drive engagement and keep people posting and clicking even though the same question has been asked and answered 100 times already. It's a black hole where information goes to die.

But the worst is how FB slowly killed off internet forums as the go-to format. I'm sort of amazed this place is still hanging on, but glad it's still here for us old farts.

I didn't expect this to be a thread about FB. I agree with others statement. FB is a lousy platform for sharing technical information and progress. The one thing I like about it is there are quick replies to posts and a lot of opinions. Thing is we could have the same thing if more people were on here and on more often. But how do we get people back to using forums? I don't know.
I started posting everything I did on my car when I first got it (on FB).
I was very frustrated to be blasted with all kinds of people saying I didn't know what I was doing, I was ruining my car, I was an idiot, etc. A lot of guys know each other so if one disagrees with you they will all gang up on you bullying you. On the other hand sometimes you post on here and it seems like nobody cares.

I feel like FB has become necessary evil at this point.

Are you kidding me? Facebook is a fantastic platform for sharing technical information. The refinement of media, tagging, scheduling meetups, etc is far better than this forum or the DML. I agree that fracturing of the community across groups and the saturation of non-owners and meme fanatics can make it difficult. Also, it seems that I can?t use apostrophes without some kind of character encoding problem here. Photos are often upside down or tiny by default at the very least. Mobile web and apps are really sophisticated in their refinement these days and this forum hasn?t kept up.

71864The one thing I agree with is scheduling meet ups is more effective on FB.

I've never had a Facebook account and don't use Facebook so I don't know what I am missing.

All forums have been almost killed in my car hobbies by Reddit, Facebook and the like.
Stealing traffic and creating a crappier version of the thing they replaced.
Only used because of convenience.

If you want an instant response then use facebook. Now how good that response is remains to be seen. I personally get on DMCtalk more times a day then FB.

Yea, I don?t use FB, but I understand you get quick answers because more people are on it. But if you come here, you are more likly to get all the answers, good and bad. Then you get to decide your best move. This is especially true if you research an old topic. On FB, the guy with the best answer might not see your post.
