I intentionally try to seperate my business life from my personal life to maintain sanity. But today something pissed me off really badly, so I'm going to share.
I'm not going to say exactly what I do in the interest of maintaing some seperation, but it's a product/service that probably 90% of people have at their homes and businesses. I'm the fourth generation in my family doing what I do and have worked my way up in my family's business since I started working immediately after I was able to drive. I have a lot of pride in what I do and in our business reputation. We pride ourselves as being the best in our industry, and probably 75% of my business is through references. We've been licensed(and enthusiastically share the paperwork and references to prove it) for nearly 30 years.
Anyway, today I get three phone calls from people because they can't get 'John' on our 410 phone number. We have never had a John, and we have never had a 410 phone number. One of these people was kind enough to fax me a flier he was given with our company's information on it, including our address. Everything was the same, except our phone number and the people answering the phone. Wow.
Anyway, I'm venting. Obviously every business owner has to eat shit with a smile, but it makes me cringe thinking food is being taken off my table by some fly-by-night prending he's us and running away with deposits or whatever other nonsense he/they may be doing. I'm hoping the police will put town their traffic citations long enough to protect a local business that has been contributing to their payroll for decades. I'll post updates to this story, as I'd like it to end with an arrest and fraud conviction, but there is only so much I can do.
If anyone wants to vent some of their work non-sense, this can be the thread. I love hearing people's work stories.

I suggest you have an attorney send a cease-and-desist letter to this fake business, and do it today.

Where do I send the letter? To myself?
Most of the time these blatant acts of fraud are committed by people who aren't from the area. They move in, usually to motels and trailer parks, then move out once 'business' goes bad. This isn't the first time we've had to take action against someone doing something like this, and it's very difficult when someone doesn't have a permanent address, license, uses pre-paid phones, etc. It's as though once someone has elected not to follow ANY of the laws, they exempt themselves from prosecution.
I'm trying, though.

So I've gotten police in two counties(each in different states) that agree what I'm describing is fraud, and would warrant police action if the individuals could be found. I now have the names and addresses of three people/businesses which have been solicited, and two others who have paid money to 'The Thing.' I also have an address that 'The Thing' is supposed to be working tomorrow. I'm told if they do report for work tomorrow I can call and have the police come out and hopefully arrest them. We'll see...

It would be helpful if we all put our locations on our profiles....that way we could see where everyone is located and render better help perhaps?

OK I'll bite!
Every single day I have to work with 3 heifers sometimes 4 and all they do is sit around and talk about other people or how they are starting a new diet but they don't want to lose too much weight cause there extra flabby skin will hang and make them look ugly etc....
Then they bitch about me and the amount of food I eat and never gain any weight.
I told them all once on different occasions over the past 10 years.
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
“You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.”
“Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.
Funny thing is, they didn’t see how it applied to them.
And that’s all I care to say.

Here's my crummy work issue,
Recently I decided to swith positions in my company. For 10 years I've been working as a sub-contractor and now I've decided to go on staff. We're a union outfit (USW local-355) so for ten years I've been paying union dues. Yesterday I was told I would have to start at probationary pay and lose my medical for 60 working days. After that I would go to top pay and get my medical back once I make the union. But I'm already in the union and they said it dosen't matter. So now i'll be stuck paying cobra for three months. These people really tick me off sometimes!!!!

I work in the IT field. Many of the people I support use a program called Novell Secure Logon which is designed to remember all of their passwords for them. I find it slightly amusing when the tool quits working and they suddenly can't do their jobs because they don't know any of their passwords.

This reminds me of an office I worked at in Kentucky 10 years back or so. It just became a predictable event that if you put 100% females in an office area, no work got done. They just sat around and talked about family, movies, dinner and having to pee; ANYTHING but doing what they were paid to do. You would get SUED to say that in an office, but if I were manager I would certainly arrange the seating so a bunch of women would NOT sit together...

This password stuff is out of control. Not only are they complex, but I have to change them every 90 days. I do exactly what OPSEC forbids and write them down.

Ahh passwords....

And also working in IT, I specifically disable everything designed to remember passwords.
Mostly though, I'm curious how Ikeaboy1's situation is working out...

The only problem with that is the stupid systems that REQUIRE you to have a number and a character. I hate having to think of those.

Drac1 can't imagine that being so hard, if that times out on you change the number to 2 as in Drac2 etc...

It only starts to annoy me because I have to take one of my standard passwords and, typically, add either "1601," "1265," or "2645" to the end. Occasionally preceding it with a "#" despite my standard passwords being around 30 characters.

30? Mine are all 8 or less. I guess my stuff isn't thought of as important.

An 8 character password can be cracked in a matter of minutes. I have 10 or 15 different systems that I need passwords for. I simply reset everything to the same complex password every 90 days. I invest about 30 minutes of time doing this every 90 days and I never have a problem remembering a password.
I keep a history of my old passwords in a password protected file just in case I ever need to reference the information.

Our systems do not allow the same pw or even substantially similar pw's.
Now they're like "SeAn^#suxtHEbig1hahaha2132132." Doing live pw resets is surely someone's full time job, especially on Monday morning.

Well then I guess I've nothing of major importance on my CPU cause my 8 are no problem, I could even use less if I wanted to.

Me too. I just write it on a post-it stuck to the monitor so I never forget it. Changes every 90 days also, which is a bit of a waste of paper if you ask me.

I have a password that is very complex for the network devices I access and I use that same password for my work PC. Unfortunately, when our company was sold and we got an IT department that set up the domain controller in such a way that my password wasn't complex enough. I had to dumb down my password. I didn't want that so I took my PC off their domain. I can't say they were happy about that but it's my network they use so they've learned to live with it. If they hadn't I would have kept their network segment at 56k speeds. :deviltail: Someone once said "don't piss off the systems administrator" but that person never had to deal with the network admin. We have the true power.
I had to give my password out to my boss once so he could fix a router (me telling him what to type) while I was on vacation. His reaction to it was hilarious, "You just read that to me and I still have no idea what I just typed."

I deal with mostly degenerate gamblers. I mean "Gamers" I hear the same thing everyday from pretty much the same people. "I'm never coming back here, your games are fixed" Blah blah. The Mayweather fight took the cake. We had a packed house and when the fight ended there was almost a riot between the Mexicans and Blacks. It all ended with people blaming us saying the fight was fixed. I would just shake my head and tell them that we have nothing to do with the fight, we were just showing it. There is no sports book in Ca so we have no influence there. I love the gaming industry but dealing with people addicted to gambling takes a toll.

I just do not understand that behaviour. Same with riots after soccer or football games (either winning or losing). You go and watch your team, you buy a beer and a brat, you go home. If you team lost today, it'll probably win next time. What's with the fights afterwards?

Nothing to do with winning or losing, usually. For some people, that's an integral part of the days entertainment. Something to brag about in the pub afterwards.
