Yes, the DCS 2018 location can be announced now.
DCS 2018 - Quick Reference Details below:
DCS 2018 will be held at the Mega Center at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL
from August 15 through August 19, 2018.
Although this is the same hotel that hosted DCS 2006, the DCS Events will be in different
facility locations than in 2006, with all Car Show and Vendor activities indoors (no tents).
More details about all the changes at Pheasant Run Resort will be in a following post.
As mentioned earlier this Fall, we are adding an extra day to beginning of the Convention,
which will be a Full-Day, Tech Day at Baltria Automotive (adjacent to resort; short walk)
on Wednesday, August 15, at no additional charge, to all registered DCS 2018 attendees.
A "regular" DCS schedule will follow on Thursday, August 16 through Sunday, August 19.
Note: Saturday DeLorean Car Show event date will be very easy to remember: 8/18/18
More details to follow.
End of Summary.
Thanks,

For those who are interested, the details below will help explain the selection process.
The location selection process for DCS 2018 was significantly longer than years' past
for a number of reasons and the maximum added value was provided by this location.
Pheasant Run Resort was sold a number of years ago, and a new investment firm and
new management team is in place. The entire resort is in the process of improvement.
The hotel's Tower Rooms have been renovated and other areas have been refurbished
including the lobby, hallways, ballrooms, and both the indoor and outdoor pools.
The DeLorean Car Show for 2006 was held in the DuPage Expo Center and in big tents
behind the Expo, which has since been sold off and re-built into a new VW Dealership.
The Mega Center has similar Main Floor footage as Prairie Capital Convention Center
from DCS 2016 and significantly more footage than the DuPage Expo Center in 2006.
The Mega Center has received a number of upgrades as well, including a tan coating on
the floor (similar to DMC Midwest, for reference) and new lighting for the Main Floor.
Under the new management, the Mega Center has hosted the Midwest Mecum Auction
and several annual car shows, including the Midwest Pontiac Show for several years.
The adjacent auto restoration shop across the street from the Pheasant Run Resort will
allow DCS 2018 to have a Full-Day, Hands-on Tech Session Day during the convention.
Baltria Automotive has 12 lifts, indoor showroom and covered outdoor showroom area.
We plan to do on-lift inspections, door adjustments, install demos and other minor work.
The Resort also has a recently refurbished theater (seats over 300) that DCS plans to use
for screening Tamir Ardon's DeLorean Documentary, which is scheduled for 2018 release,
along with other screening requests, such as Steve Concotelli's OUTATIME documentary.
The theater also allows DCS an alternate location for our Keynote Speaker presentations.
The DCS Planning Team has secured an initial block of hotel rooms for $99/night, with the
more recently refurbished Tower Rooms for $119 per night. Hotel Registration will be open
before the end of this month, so check for links on the forum during the Holiday Season and
on the DCS Social Media sites. The DCS Planning Team will work to get the links ready soon.
If you have any questions about DCS 2018 and what will be offered, feel free to post here to
this thread and either myself or other members of the DCS Planning Team will try to answer.
New threads will be started for DCS 2018 Hotel Registration and DCS 2018 Event Registration.
We plan DCS 2018 Hotel Registration links to be provided before the end of December 2017.
We plan DCS 2018 Event Registration links to be provided before the end of January 2018.
More details to follow.

Looking at the schedule from last time, Sunday was just self-guided tours and not organized events. Is that the plan this year? (I'm trying to budget how many days I'll need to get back, possibly including a visit to my cousin's in Indiana.)

Those of you who have stayed there before, how's the noise/comfort level in the older rooms? I'm good with pretty much anything down to old school Motel 6/trashy Vegas strip motel quality as far as amenities go but weird random noises from the a/c unit or being able to hear bar music and neighbors hooting and hollering is a dealbreaker (found that out the hard way a couple of times in Vegas...)

The Resort is way out in the country, surrounded by the golf course and several farms.
If you have seen Caddy Shack, you know how noisey the gofers can get at night.
Sunday schedule will be similar as other events (kind of a wind down), especially
after the regular check-out time.
I'm having a DCS Planning Team meeting in a few minutes with about half a dozen
members of the team, so I will try to reply with more details later tonight.

Sorry for the delay with posting more details. Yesterday's meeting went well and
I have been receiving emails both last night and this morning, with a few possible
new VIP Guest appearance invitation acknowledgements and a few confirmations.
The Pheasant Run Resort is on 250 acres, about 40 miles West of Chicago (1 hour)
so we will be both close enough to Chicago and "not too close" to avoid traffic.
For those interested, PRR has an outstanding 18-hole golf course on resort grounds,
a Day Spa, a Bourbon Street area with food and shops, and a Zanies Comedy Club.
(one of our invited VIP Guests may make good use of the Zanies Comedy Club)
We have just added a second Academy Award Winning Person to our list of VIPs,
upon their request, but additional details need to be finalized before we announce.
Since DCS 2006, there has been a lot of new development just West of PRR, with
a Walmart and a Target, and many more food offerings including IHOP, Chili's,
Olive Garden, and a new Culver's is right across from PRR, just to name a few.
Chicago favorites Portillo's and Giordano's Stuffed Deep Dish Pizza are nearby.
More details to follow.

Unfortunately, the policies have not been finalized yet, since we have not made a final decision
on which third-party, online registration app that DCS 2018 will be using. We will need to work
within the app guidelines, while trying to be as flexible as we reasonably can, for a small staff.
In General, we will try to have a full refund of any or all of the dinners through at least August 1,
then a partial surcharge for each dinner cancelled may apply. For Event Registration, we plan to
have a full refund through at least May 1, when our second event deposit is required. Between
May 1 and July 1, at least a 50% refund on Event Registrations will be available, since our third
deposit is due by July 1. Again, these guidelines will be considered as we work through the final
demos of the event registration apps over the next 30 days or so (then we divide on the app).
Policies will be posted before or at the same time that Event Registration is made available.
As for hotel registration, once the custom registration link is setup, the reduced rate DCS rooms
will be available through Friday, July 13, 2018 (one month prior to rooms blocked for our event).
Hence, our DCS 2018 room block rate will be available from August 13 through August 19, 2018.
More details once the registration links are "ready to go".

Hi Rich,
Will there be a Delorean raffle for the show?
Hi Jim,
With the significantly reduced staff of the DCS 2018 Planning Team,
we will not have the resources or the time for a Raffle Car in 2018.
Sorry to disappoint many of you that have purchased tickets in the
past, to help support previous DCS events, but we may revisit this
way of fundraising for DCS at sometime again in the future. Even
with reduced fundraising for 2018, we have an outstanding venue,
VIPs and Events planned for DCS 2018. The Planning Team is still
discussing the possibility of having a Silent Auction at DCS 2018.
Thanks,
Rich W. [for the DCS 2018 Planning Team]

Thank you again to Rich W for all the time and effort that you have spent to make DCS2018 a reality! For those of you who didn't make it to DCS 2016, Pheasant Run is a beautiful resort in the Western Chicago suburbs.
By the way, for those of you who aren't familiar with the Chicago area, St. Charles is a very nice area. Also, if traveling from eastern destinations via expressway, try to avoid the I-94 route to Chicago. GPS will take you that way because it is about 0.5 shorter than I-294 (the Tri-State). However, GPS doesn't account for the often difficult traffic on the downtown Chicago route, so taking I-94 will add anywhere between 30 minutes to 1.5 hours to your trip depending on the time of day. Just the take the Tri-State and enjoy the ride :-)
Hope to see everyone there!

I noticed this little DCS convention banner doing the rounds on Facebook…
http://content.colinbennett.com/dmc/2017-12-20_current.jpg
I created an alternative design over my lunch break today for you to use (if you wish) for promotional material (flyers, websites, social media). I used a photo of my own pride and joy with typography that matches the original dealer brochure from 1981 (Goudy Old Style). Feel free to use it for anything. Just happy to help out.

Colin, that's some nice work. We do have a volunteer working on a design this week,
but if he cannot get to it, I may be contacting you for a "print ready" version.
As I mentioned to Dave Tavres, who did the other design on his own, using some of
the graphics from DCS 2016, we may be using the .org URL this time around, which
is one reason why I have not posted the URL link yet for DCS 2018.
DCS Social Media links will remain the same as the last time around with DCS 2016.

Just putting this out there again and to see what people think of it.
https://mymetalbusinesscard.com/product/invitations-events/metal-vip-passes/
This company make Stainless Steel Con badges at a decent price. I would be willing to pay extra and/or pre-order one in advance. Even at the 25 passes its less than $7 and it goes down from there to under $3 for 150.
If you are ok with, it I would volunteer to do the design and leg work of getting them made and ready to go before the show.

Hi Kevin,
The DCS 2018 Planning Team did review your idea request when you proposed it to us earlier this year,
and although it is cool and it may meet the needs of our VIPs, we cannot easily display all the event info
on this type of badge for the general attendees. DCS Staff needs to identify event options "at a glance"
such as dinners (without arm-bands or other means) and although we try to discourage changes late in
the game, it does happen and last minute prints and re-prints would add logistical complexity. Although
we may decide to use these for VIP Guests, we do not intend to use them for the general attendees.
Thanks,
Rich W. [for the DCS 2018 Planning Team]
Note: Correction, request was reviewed last Fall, after request was submitted last August.

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
The custom link for DCS 2018 Hotel Reservations is just about ready to go.
We have had DMC Club members testing the PRR hotel's custom interface for
the DCS 2018 discounted rates, and other than a few clarifications with some
text on the room booking buttons, we are almost ready for room bookings.
For those who attended DCS 2016, you will get First Priority to book rooms, as
a link will be emailed to DCS 2016 attendees first, then it will be posted here.
If the interface button text is not updated soon by PRR Tech Support staff, we
will send out the link with some clarification text, to keep this process going.
Once passed the initial clarifications, the registration process functions properly
and our DMC Club members have successfully booked rooms without problems.
More details to follow.

Tentative update on this topic ...
Although the lowest discounted rate rooms ($99/night) are tentatively slated for possible refurbishing
this Winter and Spring, there is no guarantee at this time. However, some DeLorean owners may like
the option of parking their DeLoreans right next to their rooms, especially before cars are moved into
the Mega Center on late Thursday or early Friday, or if you decide not to park your DeLorean indoors.
So, depending on the refurbishing schedule, the $99/night "Golf Rooms" may be a win-win for some
DeLorean owners, offering both lower cost and a close view of your car, right from the room window.
All the Golf Rooms are ground level rooms and only a few steps to the parking spaces near the rooms.
The Golf Rooms are also only a few steps away from the Golf Course, hence the name of the rooms.

Hotel Registration is now open for DCS 2018 at the Mega Center at Pheasant Run Resort.
The DCS 2018 Discounted Room Rates are as follows:
Golf Rooms $99/night (may be renovated by Summer 2018.)
Tower Rooms $119/night (renovated in Winter/Spring 2017)
Loft Suites $189/night (recent renovation, but also less use)
Also available at reduced rates (detailed on the hotel registration website):
Whirlpool Suites, Executive Suites, Family Suites and Tower Penthouse Suites.
Please note the PRR Hotel Registration website is a little "clunky" and we continue working
with the PRR Tech Staff to better clarify the button functions on the custom DCS 2018 link.
The opening page of the custom DCS 2018 Registration link lists all of the available days for
Discounted Rates (Monday, August 13 through Monday, August 20, 2018.), for those who will
want to book "shoulder days" on either side of DCS, in addition to the DCS 2018 Event dates.
Note: All these dates do not get pre-populated (as the default) in the Registration link page.
The DCS 2018 Event Dates are Wednesday, August 15 through Sunday, August 19, 2018.
The DeLorean Car Show event itself is easy to remember, since it is on Saturday 08/18/18.
Until (or if) the Hotel Registration website link is updated for better clarity, please use the
following recommendations to get through the Registration process.
When you go to register, Do NOT Close the text that says "Please Join us for the DeLorean
Convention and Show". That will clear the Event Discount Code from the registration process.
The "Complete Registration" button should be displayed as a "Start Registration" button, but it
does function as a Start button, with the range of dates "highlighted" but not yet selected, and
the Discount Code for DCS 2018 is pre-populated correctly. At this point, the rest of the Hotel
Registration process seems to function properly and does not need any further clarification.
DCS 2018 PRR Hotel Registration link:
https://reservations.travelclick.com/2932?groupID=2089017
DCS 2018 Event Registration should be available by sometime during January 2018.
DCS 2018 Dinners (with Keynote Speakers) will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
More details to follow.
Thanks,
Rich W.

The DCS Planning Team is pleased to announce that Michael Lantieri and his wife will be joining us at DCS 2018.
As you may know, Michael was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for Back to the Future II,
but what most of you may not know is that his wife, Mary Anne, was Bob Gale's Assistant during the filming of
Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III. Michael will give us some insight into the BTTF Special Effects,
from making DeLoreans fly and hover, to all the details about hover boards, while Mary Anne will give us some
insight into working with Bob Gale, and working Behind the Scenes on both BTTF II and BTTF III.
Brief Bio on Michael Lantieri
Michael Lantieri went to school in Los Angeles with actor-director Ron Howard, wanting to be in films from an early age,
though as a director. However Michael went to work in the special effects department of Universal Studios, staying for
ten years and working on the likes of 'Buck Rogers' and 'Battlestar Galactica' before branching out on his own. Since then
he has worked on a variety of effects driven films, nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Back to the Future II
and then winning an Oscar for 'Jurassic Park'. Michael has also picked up four other nominations and three BAFTA awards.
Most recently, Michael won a Primetime Emmy in 2017 for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for Westworld. In addition to
movies and TV, he worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and has provided effects for video games.

The DCS Planning Team has been waiting for a few Returning BTTF VIP Guests to confirm,
before posting a partial list, however we would be remiss to wait much longer to post that
Bob Gale has confirmed he will be returning for DCS 2018.
Within the world of DCS and Back to the Future, Bob Gale needs no introduction. Bob has
been a champion for the DeLorean Time Machine Hero Car and its restoration which was
"Captured for All Time" in the OUTATIME documentary by Steve Concotelli, as well as being
a diehard supporter of the DCS Events for over a decade.
As we have posted before, the DCS Planning Team considers Bob an honorary member of
the team, since he has helped the team tremendously in making contacts with the BTTF
Trilogy Cast and Crew, and to help direct our invitations to cast and crew for DCS Events.
For those attending DCS for the first time in 2018, Bob's mini bio says it all in a nutshell.
Mini Bio
Bob Gale is an Oscar-nominated screenwriter-producer-director, best known as co-creator,
co-writer and co-producer of Back to the Future (1985) and its sequels. Gale was born and
raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Cinema from the
University of Southern California in 1973. He has written over 30 screenplays; his other film
credits include 1941 (1979), I Wanna Hold Your Hand [1978], Used Cars (1980), Trespass (1992)
and Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road (2002), the latter which he directed. In addition to writing
movies and occasionally television, Gale has written comic books including Spider-Man, Batman
and the IDW Back to the Future title, thus proving to his father that he did not waste hours and
hours reading comics in his youth. He has also served as an expert witness in over 25 plagiarism
cases, even though this has occasionally required him to wear a suit and tie (oh, the horror!).
When he's not in production, writing, shooting off his mouth or wasting time on the internet,
he actually does take out the trash even when his wife doesn't ask. Well, sometimes he does...

DMC VIP Guests - Partial List [Returning VIPs, as of 1/11/18]
<snip>
Klaus Steiner
- DeLorean World Tour Team member/driver
- Talk: See and hear about DeLoreans driving around the world
- Talk: Klaus will attempt to summarize this Epic DeLorean Trip
<snip>
More to follow.
Update on the DeLorean World Tour Team Talks ...
Looks like we may see an "Extended Version" of the DeLorean World Tour Presentation
and have at least two members of the team attending DCS 2018 in August.
The DCS Planning Team has had ongoing discussions with Klaus to encourage Wolfgang
to attend DCS 2018, since Wolfgang has assembled a 2 hour, multi-media presentation.
We look forward to finalizing details soon, to have Klaus and Wolfgang present at DCS.

Concrete, asphalt, gravel, dirt roads and paths ... the driving frontier.
These are the Voyages of the DeLorean World Tour Team and their DeLoreans.
Their 8 month mission ... to seek out people who had never seen a DeLorean
in person, to traverse roads never attempted to be driven by DeLoreans and
to boldly go where no DeLoreans had ever gone before.
Wolfgang Hank and Klaus Steiner will represent the DeLorean World Tour Team
at DCS 2018, with several presentations, and answering all your questions.
The idea was born in 2010, with short adventures in 2013, 2014, early 2015,
and the longest part of the journey from September 2015 through May 2016.
Such an amazing adventure needs an extended multi-media presentation, just
to give you a feel for the trip, followed by Tech Talks about the DeLoreans
that were used to traverse everything from dry, dirt paths, to the Autobahn.
Their trip is in the record books and it was great for the DeLorean marque.
Wolfgang will also attend the DCS Tech Session Day as our Guest Technician,
for under-car inspections, some minor service work, and door adjustments at
Baltria Auto Group, adjacent to the Mega Center at the Pheasant Run Resort
on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Don't pass up this rare opportunity.

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
Sorry for the delays in updating information on new and returning VIP Guests, as well as activating the Event Registration
for DCS 2018. Not unlike January 2016, when I had to spend extra time while caring for my Mom after she broke her leg,
I find myself in a similar situation in January 2018, but on a much more serious scale. My Mom has been in the hospital
for the past 10 days, and I have been spending almost all of my time at the hospital, day and night, during this time.
Without going into details, Mom's prognosis does look better than a week ago, but we are still treating the symptoms at
this point and do not know the root cause of her condition. Mom will need plenty of extra care once she is discharged, so
that will continue to be my primary focus, then work, then DCS, when I can find a little free time. Things are going well
with DCS 2018 and I may be handing over more DCS responsibility in the future to my oldest nephew, James Weissensel
who is a Project Coordinator for Special Events Management in the Chicago area. I will continue to be the Event Director
for DCS 2018, but you may see James Weissensel on some of the tasks, such has the logistics behind Event Registration.
Thanks for your continued support of the DeLorean Convention and Show (and for thoughts and prayers for my Mom).
Regards,
Rich W. [for the DCS 2018 Planning Team]

The DCS 2018 Planning Team is pleased to announce another returning BTTF VIP Guest - Michael Scheffe
Legendary Designer of KITT, and other TV and Movie vehicles, Michael Scheffe was the Construction Coordinator
for Back to the Future, as well as creator of the Flying Taxi in Back to the Future II. A few of his other well known
BTTF creations include the giant speaker in Doc Brown's Lab, Doc's Brain-Wave Analyzer and the table-top model
of downtown Hill Valley (please excuse the crudity of the model ... Michael did not have time to paint it).
Michael always wanted to be a Car Designer, so we will hear more at DCS 2018 about his car designing passion
and how TV and movies impact production car designs and vise versa, in the past, present and in the future.
Below is a list of a few of Michael's TV and Movie accomplishments you may be familiar with:
Construction Coordinator - Back to the Future (1985)
Future Consultant - Back to the Future II (1989)
Construction Coordinator - Knight Rider (TV) (1982-1986)
Technical Consultant - Automan (TV Series) (1983-1984)
Special Photographic Effects - Salvage 1 (TV) (1979)
Visual Effects Art Director - Starship Troopers (1997)
Conceptual Artist - Spiderman (2002)
Concept Designer - Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
We hope to have additional BTTF Cast and Crew members confirm their schedules with the DCS 2018 Planning
Team and we hope a few will stay to attend Wizard World Comic Con Chicago on the weekend after DCS 2018.

The DCS Planning Team announces the return of a DCS VIP who is both a DMC VIP and BTTF VIP ...
Manson Cheung - Hot Wheels 3D Modeler and Designer
Manson has almost single-handedly done something that John Z. DeLorean was not able to do.
Deliver low-cost DeLoreans to the masses, numbering in the tens of thousands, and inspiring
countless young boys and girls (and plenty of big kids) to one day own a DeLorean automobile.
The DeLorean Community and BTTF Community are grateful Manson has kept the dream alive.
DCS is very happy Manson and his wife will be joining us at DCS 2018. As with a few DCS VIP Guests,
Manson had a work conflict with DCS 2016 (having to work the San Diego Comic Con), but he could
not wait to attend DCS 2018, to share his DeLorean stories and Hot Wheels stories with everyone.
Manson has promised some new stories and new Hot Wheels details during his presentations, and he
said he is a big fan of the new DCS break-out rooms, where Q&A sessions can be less intimidating
for attendees, to ask their questions to the VIP Guests. Get your Hot Wheels questions ready !!

Thanks for the updates, Rich. Best wishes for you and your family, and hoping your mom makes a speedy recovery!
Thanks. The DeLorean Community really is a community and the success of DCS has been just as much about the people as it is the DeLoreans.
Ironically, the treatment requires slow changes, so the only speedy thing I am hoping for at the moment is continued speedy wifi at the hospital.

Returning DMC VIP Guest - George Levy, former AutoWeek Editor
We have confirmed that former Autoweek editor and automotive journalist
George Levy will be attending DCS 2018. George was one of the select few
who attended the DeLorean Press Junket in early 1981 at the factory.
Below is part of his automotive bio:
George Damon Levy has loved automobiles and motorsports from an early age.
After college, he joined Autoweek, where he traveled the world meeting with
global automotive leaders and raced in his spare time.
He was named editor at age 27.
After a brief stint at a major ad agency, where he helped launch the
massively successful Goodyear Eagle tires brand, George started his own
advertising company and automotive consultancy. He advised clients like
General Motors on consumer trends and future product strategies. At the
same time he served as creative director on the BFGoodrich Tires account,
where he and his partner created the “monochromatic” campaign that was so
popular that tens of thousands each year bought poster-sized copies of the
ads. Later George joined Doner Advertising, where he headed up the agency’s
Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mazda Motorsports and AutoZone efforts.
In his spare time, George is a motorsports journalist and historian. His
first book, Can-Am 50th Anniversary, featuring original interviews with
more than 75 of the sport’s greatest names including Mario Andretti, Roger
Penske, Sir Jackie Stewart, and Jim Hall, will be published this summer.
George also serves on the Board of Directors of the Motorsports Hall of Fame
of America and does volunteer work for the internationally renowned Cranbrook
Academy of Art.
An avid mountain biker, he works mostly to support his two children, his 1967
Alfa Romeo Duetto, 1973 Mickey Thompson 454 Chevy Baja 1000 vintage racing
truck and 1989 1LE Camaro showroom stock racecar.
George released his latest book in Summer 2016 titled Can-Am 50th Anniversary.

New "First Time" DMC VIP Guest - Dan Shea
Picture Yourself: It's the mid-70's and you are a young man in college,
looking for a part time job, when you get a call from your sister. She
says she has a job opportunity where she works, for someone help setup
a car display and occasionally drive the owner around. Sounds good?
Well, that's what happened to DMC VIP Colleen Booth's brother, Dan Shea.
The car? That would be Proto 1. Yes, the one and only DeLorean Proto 1.
Dan drove JZD around to many meetings on golf courses and other venues.
Dan plans to join us at DCS 2018 and he has some great stories to tell.

New DMC VIP Guest - Author of Grand Delusions, Hillel Levin
The DCS Planning Team is pleased to announce that Hillel Levin
will be joining us at DCS 2018. Hillel is preparing to re-release
his book Grand Delusions with additional un-released information
as an E-Book release, through Amazon this Summer, with the timing
coordinated with release of Tamir's JZD documentary later in 2018.
Hillel will be presenting the stories behind his book's research.
Thanks again to Tamir, who provided the introduction to Hillel.
Hillel has been a polarizing figure in DeLorean history and as you
may expect, not everything can be interpreted in print as well as
it can in person (and video) or as it's included in Tamir's movie.
Due to previous scheduling commitments, Hillel may only be at the
convention on Friday, August 17 (not for the Car Show on Saturday)
but Hillel will be available between his presentations, to answer
questions and autograph your hard copy of his book Grand Delusions.

New DMC VIP Guest - Author of "On a Clear Day You Can See GM"
The DCS Planning Team is happy to announce that J. Patrick Wright
intends to join us at DCS 2018, but dates are yet to be confirmed.
As with many books about JZD, Patrick's book is a "must have" in
many DeLorean enthusiast's collections and Patrick will elaborate
on some of his research done for this book and his JZD interviews.
We have also asked Patrick to sell and sign copies of this book.
Thanks again to Tamir, who provided the introduction to Patrick.
The DCS Planning Team is having ongoing discussions with Patrick and
we hope he will be available, between his DCS presentations, to answer
questions and autograph everyone's copy of his book "On a Clear Day".
Patrick will make a great addition to our group of authors at DCS 2018.

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
With Tax Day behind us (here in the U.S.), it's time to think about DCS,
especially if you have not Hotel Registered or Event Registered yet.
Just a quick reminder, we are about 16 weeks away from the convention,
with DMC Car Show day of DCS 2018, exactly 4 months away from today.
If you have not registered for DCS 2018 yet, remember to Hotel Register
and Event Register within the next 12 weeks, for the best pricing.
Hotel Registration and Event Registration prices increase after July 15,
which is less than 3 months away from today.
For the Links to Hotel Registration and Event Registration, and details
about DCS 2018, visit the DCS 2018 website with the following link:

The earlier that folks Event Register, the more VIP Guests we can invite
to DCS 2018, and the more value and enjoyment for all our DCS attendees.
Check your calendar and Summer schedule, so you can Event Register soon.
We look forward to seeing many of you this August at DCS 2018.

have asked for advanced funds to book their DCS flights.

Please fix / redirect the www.deloreanconvention.COM link to point to the registration page. It's VERY confusing to many people.
Sorry for any confusion, but I have been mentioning the .org URL in this thread since Post #27 in December
and mentioned it earlier via PM's & emails even earlier, to those who expressed possible concern. As I have
mentioned in the PM's and emails, I do not have ownership or control over the .com URL, so all I am able to
do is "request" (again) that the website volunteers try to fix this fix issue, when they have some free time.
While I agree this should be addressed, I do not believe it's very confusing to many people. If it was really
that confusing, the same people would not have found DMCTalk.org after the issues with DMCTalk.com URL.
However (full disclosure) I have received one email about this issue, about a week ago. (different Dave)
While I agree this should be addressed, I do not believe it's very confusing to many people. If it was really
that confusing, the same people would not have found DMCTalk.org after the issues with DMCTalk.com URL.
Hi Rich,
I just want to add that the .com domain is very confusing. I've attended every DCS since 2000 except for 2016, so I wasn't on the email list for announcements. I also sold my Delorean in 2014, so I don't regularly visit DMCTALK any more either.
But as I was still planning on going to DCS 2018, a few months ago, I did google 'delorean convention' and quickly got to the .COM version of the website which had nothing posted about registration --- until today when it changed with the registration link. (And I had been checking the site every other week or so looking for updates.) If you google any combination of 'delorean convention show 2018' the .ORG site doesn't show up at all. I mentioned that there was nothing at the DCS website at the Long Island Delorean tech meetup last weekend and they told me everything was on DMCTALK.
I never knew or heard about the .ORG website until today, in this thread.
However (full disclosure) I have received one email about this issue, about a week ago. (different Dave)
I wouldn't even know who to email! I also didn't know you were now the main DCS contact. I didn't know there was a problem of a different domain until I found this thread thanks to Tom and Dave last weekend.
It's also additionally confusing because the "Event Registration" button on the .ORG takes you back to the .COM page (https://deloreanconvention.com/registration-2018.php)! So why use the .ORG domain at all?
I don't know when the hotel and event registration links first became active, but if they were on the .COM website, I would have signed up as soon as possible, and not today.
Doing the google search again today, I did find the Facebook group which does have the .ORG domain listed, but I don't use FB much anymore (#deletefacebook) and the DCS FB page wasn't posted on any of the other Delorean pages I am a member of (DMA, Deloreans for sale, PJ Grady, DMC Houston, etc) -- or at least that I saw.
Maybe it's too late for this year, but for future years, I would strongly suggest finding a way to work with whoever owns the .COM domain and just using that for everything. That way, people who aren't on DMCTalk or on the mailing list and who might just use a search engine, will easily find the right place, the first time.
Or even better, simply put in a domain redirection to redirect all .COM calls to the .ORG. That would take 5 minutes at the domain registrar and that would be a permanent fix. If you can't do that and still want to use the .ORG domain, then just put this at the top of the page on the .COM index.php page:
<? header("location: http://www.deloreanconvention.org/"); exit; ?>
(there are also several other ways to do this if that's not an option.)
Thanks, and looking forward to the amazing line-up of VIP guests this year.
-Hank
P.S. Also, an HTTPS version of the .org website should be available, or at a minimum, redirect back to the HTTP version. Right now, it just stalls and never loads a page. I do see the .COM has a valid SSL certificate, another reason to just use the .COM.

Hi Hank,
Sorry for the confusion. If you need some additional details regarding why certain things are going
the way they are going with DCS 2018 (with a significantly reduced volunteer staff), you can check
the DMCTalk thread [DCS 2018?], which was closed once DCS 2018 was confirmed. Earlier details
about DCS 2018 have not been copied over to this thread and probably will not be, but if you have
not been checking DMCTalk much in the past year, you probably missed most of those posts.
In summary, most of the posts on [DCS 2018?] thread explain changes in the DCS Planning Team,
the pace of details for finalizing a location and some general reasons for some changes and delays.
While I openly share some details of my personal reasons for delays, I try not to share too many of
the details of my DCS 2016 volunteers who are unwilling or unable to volunteer for DCS 2018. The
smaller DCS Planning Team and the smaller number of local volunteers are for a variety of reasons.
So, for now, all I can do is repeat what I have stated before about .com URL (it's out of my hands).
If you would like a better explanation, feel free to ask me in person at DCS 2018 and I will try to
explain as many as the details that I can (without too much speculation). At this point in time, I am
happy that the volunteers continue to work on their areas of expertise and that others have stepped
up, so DCS details can be referenced (on Forums and Social Media) and the Event Registration is up.
As for our volunteers unable to assist at DCS 2018, I would like to take a moment to thank someone
who was both a very good friend and a DCS Planning Team member who volunteered for many DCS
tasks over the years, especially in his retirement years. Similar to Ken K. having a Cliff S. for many
years of DCS, I had been helped by Jim Leonas for logistics and transport assistance of my vehicles
for DeLorean events on both coasts, as well as fundraising for DCS 2016 and early DCS 2018 plans.
Jim Leonas passed away in late March after an extended battle with cancer and he will be missed by
myself and the members of our local DMC Club, as well as many in the DeLorean community who had
met Jim over the years (at every DCS since 2006 or at EuroFest 2011). Jim owned the "sister car" to
my garage queen DeLorean, and unlike my garage queen, Jim drove his DeLorean from coast to coast
to each DCS since 2006, including Vegas and Florida. Jim will be missed at DCS 2018 and beyond.
56328
Thanks again to all the DCS volunteers and to those who have offered to volunteer for DCS 2018.
I will be working on placing volunteers in tasks over the next few weeks, so stay tuned for emails.
Rich W. [for DCS Planning Team]
Hi Rich,
Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I appreciate all the work you and the other volunteers have done, and yes, I am woefully ignorant of the changes since 2014, and I apologize for that! I'll go back and look for those threads for the back history. If there are ways I can help with these website changes or hosting issues, I'm happy to volunteer. I spend all-day, every-day working on websites from top to bottom. But I suspect the problems aren't all technical.
I'm off to register now. See you in Chicago. Thanks.

Returning DMC VIP Guest - Michael Knepper - former DMC PR Executive
The DCS Planning Team is pleased to announce that Michael Knepper
will be joining us at DCS 2018. Michael was a VIP Guest at DCS 2012
and he is looking forward to sharing many of his DeLorean Company
stories in our smaller break-out room sessions, where DCS attendees
can interact more closely with him. As many of you know, Michael
became the Public Relations Director for DeLorean Motor Company in
September 1980, after being interviewed personally by JZD. Michael
had worked previously at Car and Driver Magazine in the 1970's.
Thanks to Matt Sommer for his ongoing efforts with Michael Knepper.
Matt has been instrumental in helping contact many DMC VIP Guests
over the years, on behalf of DCS, and his long term friendships with
many former DMC Executives has made DCS a success for 2 decades.

Looks like a nice place to have a convention! My wife and I are planning on attending along with 4625! I assume the majority of attendees will be staying at the resort. Is there a referral code that we need to give to make reservations?
Thanks,

Hi Ken,
Yes, the majority of the attendees will be staying at the Resort. The Hotel Registration link
pre-populates the Event Code for room discounts booked prior to July 15. If you register a
room by phone, all you need to do is mention DeLorean Convention when you Hotel Register.
Valid discount rates for the convention and shoulder dates are August 13 through August 20.
http://www.deloreanconvention.org
DCS 2018 convention dates are Wednesday, August 15 through Sunday, August 19, 2018.
The DeLorean Car Show 2018 is on Saturday, 08/18/18.
Thanks,
Rich W.

The DCS Planning Team is very happy to announce that John Lamm will
be joining us at DCS 2018. John is still finalizing his busy schedule for
August (he says he is very happily busy), but John promises to make it
to DCS 2018 in time for "Author's Day" on Friday, August 17 and for the
DeLorean Car Show on Saturday, for Book Signings in the Mega Center.
As most DeLorean owners, fans and enthusiasts know, John Lamm is the
author of Stainless Steel Illusion, and although it is still very difficult to
find a First Edition of SSI, the DeLorean Community was lucky enough
to get the Second Edition of SSI about 15 years ago (in 2003) so many
of us could complete our collections of some early DMC publications.
Even with First and Second Editions of SSI available, there are quite
a few stories that John was not able to include in either edition, and
DCS will be your best opportunity to hear many of these stories. We
have scheduled John for at least one break-out session on Friday, and
as one of our Friday Keynote Speakers after the Friday evening dinner.

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
As we approach both the "2 month mark" prior to the start of DCS 2018
and Father's Day weekend (a holiday associated with DCS for 18 years),
we want to remind you there are only 4 weeks left to book a discount
hotel room and the regular Event Registration rate (before late fees).
Thanks to those of you who have already Event Registered for DCS 2018.
For those of you thinking of attending DCS 2018, I would recommend to
hotel register now, ASAP, so we have an accurate room night count for
DCS 2018 (also ASAP), to help finalize our VIP Guest invitation list.
As many of you know, Event Funds are the key to making many of our
VIP Guest invitations possible, by funding VIP travel, hotel rooms
and dinners. We still have several outstanding VIP Guest invitations
(to confirm) and having funds now helps us to finalize our VIP lists.
As of today, we have 20 confirmed VIP Guests, with 4 VIP invitations
that are not confirmed, both on the DMC VIP list and BTTF VIP list.
Even if we are unable to get more VIP Guests, we have an outstanding
line-up of VIP Guests that may never appear together at another DCS.
If you intend to attend DCS 2018 and have not Event Registered yet,
please make an effort to do so this weekend or in the next few weeks.
If you always wanted to attend DCS and did not attend because it was
on Father's Day weekend, you have another chance to attend this year.
Thanks again for your continued support of DeLorean Convention & Show
and we hope to see many of you (and your DeLoreans) at DCS 2018.

I am a local to the Chicago suburbs and also work all over downtown Chicago. If you are planning on doing multiple activities when coming to the Windy City, the City Pass is a good deal. Basically, you get to do five attractions out of seven choices for one price and is the most economical way to do so. Check it out:

Good Call on the City Pass. Also, there are several special evening events like Jazzin' at the Shedd (Wednesdays in Summer)
(I just went a couple weeks ago on Member's night) and Adler After Dark, that are great events and much smaller crowds.
Shedd Aquarium has artwork displayed made from recycled plastic that was recovered from garbage floating in the ocean.
Note: I will add a few photos of the Ocean Artwork in a post below.

This weekend, the Chicago area weather will be hot, even for late June.
Temp will be mid to upper 90's, with heat index 105 degrees or more.
Springfield, IL (host city of DCS 2016) will be even hotter this weekend/
Temp will be in upper 90's, with heat index of 111 degrees or more.
Chicago's Father's Day weekend 2018 was also very hot for mid June.
Temp was 96 degrees, with heat index 105 degrees and very humid.
Last weekend was significantly different, with a 69 degree high temp.
What will be the weather in the Chicago area in August? Stay tuned.

The Official Author-ized DeLorean Event for 2018
DCS 2018 will have the most DeLorean Authors (and editors)
at one event than there has ever been in the past. Although
we will be highlighting about a half dozen book authors, we will
also have many others who have authored articles in magazines
and newspapers over the years, and even many more others who
have authored countless forum posts and social media content.
So whether you consider yourself a DeLorean author, if you
are a fan of DeLorean authors attending DCS 2018 or if you
just want to get your DeLorean book collection signed, then
you will want to attend DCS 2018 this August near Chicago.
See you at the Mega Center, at the Pheasant Run Resort !!

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
As we approach the "six week mark" prior to the start of DCS 2018
we want to remind you there are only 2 weeks left to book a discount
hotel room and book your Event Registration (before late fees apply).
There are several surprises planned for the events at DCS 2018.
Unfortunately, a few surprises are not knowing all VIP Guests yet, as we
are still waiting on a few confirmations. Although we expect to hear the
confirmations (Yes or No) in the next few weeks, we thought announcing
"possible" VIP Guests now is better than a delay informing attendees.
As alluded to elsewhere, there is still a chance Giugiaro may make an
appearance on one day of the convention, while on his way to making an
appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours the following weekend. At this
time, the most likely appearance will be on a weekday, not the weekend.
Another possible appearance is from Tom Wilson. He was invited to both
make a DCS appearance and perform at the Resort's Zanies Comedy Club.
Tom is appearing at the Boston Comic Con the weekend before DCS 2018
and his most likely appearance would be on a weekday, not the weekend.
On a similar note, Christopher Lloyd may also make a return appearance
at DCS 2018. Chris has a very busy schedule, but we should know soon.
Chris is appearing at the Boston Comic Con the weekend before DCS 2018
and his most likely appearance would be on Thursday, not the weekend.
Of all the unconfirmed VIPs, Lea Thompson is most likely to appear at
DCS 2018, since her husband will be filming in Chicago in mid August.
Lea is appearing at the Boston Comic Con the weekend before DCS 2018
and her most likely appearance will be Thursday (and maybe Saturday).
Thanks to those of you who have already Event Registered for DCS 2018.
For those of you thinking of attending DCS 2018, we would recommend to

The cheapest transit I can find from the airport is to take the train into Naperville and then Uber to the convention center. But I'm a little nervous because my flight doesn't even get in until 9 pm on Wed. Has anybody done this before and have any better ideas?

Wait, I can actually get to the West Chicago Metra station from MDW, which is a little closer. Are cabs/ubers easy to get around that area at 11:45 on a weeknight?

The Resort has a Free Shuttle that runs during the day, to various locations,
5 miles or less from the Resort. Both the West Chicago and Geneva train
stations are each about 6 miles from the Resort, so I will try to find out if
these locations are included in the fringe coverage of the shuttle and what
the official times are that the shuttle is available.

While I'm sure Rob is speaking for himself, if you are thinking of attending DCS 2018,
to listen to, meet, talk with and ask questions of the 20+ VIP Guests, there is no other
DeLorean Event you can attend (at any cost) with only a few hundred other attendees.
Even if you are BTTF fan and want to mingle with our BTTF VIPs, you could pay a lot
more and not get a fraction of the time with similar VIPs at a Comic Con, along with
the thousands of other attendees. I guess it all depends on how you do the math.
With very few Room Share limitations, DCS 2018 is very cost-effective for most folks.
Dinner purchases not required, so there are many ways to attend DCS inexpensively.
Even if you do sign up for all the events, the attendee to VIP ratio make it a bargain.
(Travel costs will vary)

Keep in mind that "DCS every two years" is never a guarantee, but attending and supporting DCS
is the best way to encourage the event to continue. For those who had the opportunity to attend
DCS 2000 and did not go, probably regret not going afterward. There have been many DMC VIPs
(and original DMC owners) that have passed away over the past two decades, and it is inevitable
this trend will continue. If you want to meet some DMC VIPs and members of the DMC community,
you may not want to put it off, if you have the opportunity to attend. Seize the moment.

Apologies if these questions have been answered before- but I have not been on DMCTalk in a while, and dont have the hours needed to "catch up".
It seems dmctalk is the "official" communication for DCS now? There is no contact information on the web site, and little to no information on Facebook. I am curious to see if this approach works.
But, anyway.. I have been asking about cancellation/refund policy, and have not really got a clear/specific answer. What is the cancellation policy for the show and meal fees?
Also seeing that the price is changing as time goes on, with little warning or detail as to what they are. A recent post on FB said there will be a late fee in a week? What is the additional fee for registering after next week?
Thanks.

Hi Marc,
While there is no one designated official communication for DCS, DMCTalk is a primary platform,
in addition to the website URL's, social media and other forums. As mentioned here in this thread
and in other DCS posts, our reduced volunteer staff does what they can, when they can, and I
appreciate their assistance in trying to keep DCS going under less than ideal conditions.
While not specifically worded for all conditions and all situations, the cancellation/refund and the
add extra dinner policy has not changed much from Ken's policy or the policy for DCS 2016.
With a much reduced staff, there may be delayed refunds as we get closer to the convention,
but as of this week, all requested refunds (so far) for DCS 2018 (mostly for medical reasons)
have been processed by DCS volunteers within a week or so and the full refunds have been
processed on the credit card side within 5-10 business days. For those who have requested
additional Dinners to be added to an existing registration, this is a bit more of a manual process
that usually involves issuing a PayPal invoice for additional Dinners (in most cases), then the
database is updated manually. DCS is not a huge operation, but we endeavor to offer refunds
in a timely manner, as they are requested. All requested refunds for DCS 2016 were fulfilled.
As for the pricing changes for Event Registration and Dinners, there were Discounted Rates
offered for DCS 2018 (to DCS 2016 attendees) before the registration link was posted for the
general public at Regular Rates, with the DCS 2016 attendees being contacted via email with
their DCS 2016 provided contact information. Regular Rates continue until July 15th, which is
a month before the convention. Late Fees will apply after July 15th and up to the close of the
Event Registration. DCS 2018 will not be setup for on-site, last minute registration.
Event Registration and Dinner Registration is expected to close by July 31, since Dinners must
be pre-paid to the Resort catering service by August 1. The DCS Planning Team will start the
Event Badge printing process after July 15th and hope to have all printed materials completed
by August 5th. Again, with a much reduced volunteer staff, we need to get an earlier start.
As for the Late Fees, these are in place to encourage earlier registration and are not intended
to exceed the average discounted rate for early registration. For example, Event Registration
and registering for all Dinners (during the early registration) provided up to a $50 discount.
Late Fee for Late Registration may be as little as $4 for those who only Event Register and
as much as $19 if you register for all 3 Dinners with your Event Registration (per person).
However, once maximum Dinner room capacity is reached, dinner registration will be closed.
Hopefully this answers most of your questions.
Thanks,
Rich W. [for the DCS 2018 Planning Team]

Update from our Event Coordinator at the Resort
The PRR Free Shuttle can take guests to and from the Geneva Metra Station.
Regular Shuttle hours (when a driver is available) are from 8am to 10pm,
however you may want to contact the resort for extra early or late hours.
Expect possible delays during prime check-in and check-out times.
Once at the resort, plan to call the front desk an hour before the need of the
shuttle, to make sure it will be available to go where you need to go.

Just for clarification, Ken's refund policy was 100% refund for any reason (even to people who canceled while we were already eating dinner). I am less concerned with a delay in getting the refund, just that it will be done if it is needed. Previous answers (relayed through Facebook) indicated that only partial refunds will be given. I thank you for the clarification on this. Had this been communicated back during the "early registration", I would have done it then. I will register this week.
Also, to add my two cents on some other statements made. It is a shame if you have "volunteers" you can't rely on, but I am intimately familiar with what it takes to run a show like this. Specifically dealing with registration, and badges as I did quite a bit of it in Pigeon Forge, and then pretty much 100% of it for all of Ken's shows after that, including all of the car raffle tickets. Because so many people did not register until the week before, I was making badges in real time at the show where we also allowed people to register on-site. Then we had the shows where the Bricklin group was there too, and I had to do their badges. In some cases, we would let people pay for dinners after they already started (if we had space). Yes, it is a lot of work but it can be done.
From experience, I hope you have something in place to stop "crashers" from getting in. Ken lost a lot of money over the years from people going to dinners they did not pay for.. Chicago was one of the worst! This includes people in the community not just random strangers driving by. I solved the problem with the numbered wristbands. It added complication because the number on the badge and wristband had to match, but it prevented a lot of theft.

Another question (again, sorry if this was covered already)..
Will there be a Saturday car show pass for people off the street who just want to see the cars? I have a friend in Chicago who may want to come visit on Saturday and see the cars.
Thanks

Chicago was one of the worst! This includes people in the community not just random strangers driving by. I solved the problem with the numbered wristbands. It added complication because the number on the badge and wristband had to match, but it prevented a lot of theft.
Just for clarification, the policy has been fluid, based on circumstances
of the anticipated event activities and capacities of certain rooms. Early
on, we anticipated at least one presentation that would require the use of
the Resort's theater, which is limited to 300 (plus DCS staff). Since we
would have limited seating and we did not want to create a waiting list,
we considered a non-refundable component, so we did not end up with empty
seats. Of course, medical and family emergency cancellations would be
refunded and other considerations could be taken into account for refunds.
While the current policy mirrors Ken's policy and the policy of DCS 2016,
it's not identical, and we will process the refunds as they are requested.
Although we did state there is a reduced staff of DCS volunteers for 2018,
there is no reason to state or imply the volunteers cannot be relied upon.
Most DCS 2018 volunteers have signed up for "only before DCS" or signed up
for "only during DCS", which may limit their availability, not their abilities.
Most of the Planning Team has not enlisted their entire families to assist
with DCS 2018 (God Bless Ken's wife and kids for helping Ken in the past),
but that does not mean DCS 2018 will be better or worse, just different.
It's not that we cannot do it Ken's way; we choose to do it differently.
As for security, this is another thing that will be done differently too,
and this is an area where the DCS Staff has increased from previous events.
Off-Duty Chicago Police officers will be among the security staff and we
will have designated areas where you will need to "show your badge" or you
will be denied entry, so make sure to wear your DCS Event Badges for all
the DCS Breakout Room presentations and all the DCS Evening Dinners. There
is one entry point to the Tower Gem Rooms (2nd floor) and one entry point
for St. Charles Room - Salon VI for Dinners, which controls entry traffic.
On a related note, Security will patrol the Car Show Main Floor, so we do
not have people taking photos in displayed cars without asking the owner.

Hi Marc,
Event Registration and Dinner Registration is expected to close by July 31, since Dinners must
be pre-paid to the Resort catering service by August 1. The DCS Planning Team will start the
Event Badge printing process after July 15th and hope to have all printed materials completed
by August 5th. Again, with a much reduced volunteer staff, we need to get an earlier start.
Thanks,
Rich W. [for the DCS 2018 Planning Team]
Rich, Thanks for the clarification on this. Many events allow dinners to be added right up to start of the event, so it's good to understand the constraints imposed by the resort. I'm probably not alone in wanting to attend some dinners but also doing my own culinary exploration for some evenings. Is there a specific listing of what speakers will be at each of the dinners? Additionally, is there a more detailed schedule listing the times and specific speakers/VIPs for the various daily scheduled break-out rooms?
Thanks,
Ron

but I will attach the latest tentative schedule below, as of today. As for
the break-out room schedule, this is still tentative and "In Flux" as well,

Dinner Keynote Speakers from 7p-9p, Thursday/Friday, 7p-8p Saturday.
Evening Presentations follow Keynote Speakers after each evening dinner.

Procrastinators Rejoice !!
Pheasant Run Resort has agreed to extend the Discount Room Rate for
two more weeks, bringing it closer to being in-line with the deadline for
for DCS 2018 Dinner Registrations, which will be before the end of July.
Pheasant Run Resort extended the Discount Room Rate until July 27th
or until rooms sell out (some nights may have $99 rooms sold out).
So, if you waited to register your hotel room, you now have more time.
Regular Event and Dinner Registration will end on July 15th and then
small Late Fees will apply. Late Dinner Registration may run through
at least July 27th, but before July 30th, since we need to pre-pay the
Resort for the Dinners by August 1st. The Event Registration may be
extended a few days past August 1st, but not extend past August 5th.
So, by August 5th (or earlier) DCS 2018 will be Sold Out.
If you intend to attend DCS 2018, register soon or you may miss out.
See many of you in August at the Mega Center at Pheasant Run Resort.

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
Today, July 15th is the last day for DCS 2018 Regular Registration.
I'm not sure if this will change at midnight or at 6pm tonight,
since we try to synchronize days with the folks in Europe too, so
if you waited until today, sooner the better is best to register.
As long as we have your attention, there are a few DCS announcements
for today and some that will be coming up very soon. First, we have at
least one BTTF Cast Member that may attend DCS 2018, and we are in
ongoing negotiations with them. We hope to confirm in the next week.
Second, we have an important announcement that we hope to finalize
early this week with Tamir and his DeLorean documentary, so make sure
to check back as early as Monday night or early this week. Tamir will be
meeting with the JZD documentary distribution folks tomorrow morning.
Third, we are trying to finalize details for an additional convention event,
a "skilled driving event" for those driving your DeLoreans to DCS 2018.
We will be taking some "precise" parking lot measurements today,
to make sure we can fit this event in the space we can have it in.
See many of you in August at the Mega Center at Pheasant Run Resort.

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
Today we are 4 weeks away from the start of DCS 2018 in St. Charles, IL
and things are starting to "ramp up" as many DCS deadlines approach.
The Pheasant Run Resort has nearly reached capacity and we have already
met our contract requirements for rooms, as well as food and beverage.
Thanks to those of you who have already Event Registered for DCS 2018.
For those of you thinking of attending DCS 2018, we would recommend to
hotel register now, ASAP, so you get a Discounted Room before July 27.
DCS Dinner Registration will also end the evening of Friday, July 27.
Sorry to keep you in suspense about topics mentioned earlier this week,
but we are still waiting for the details, to be available to post soon.
One additional topic that we will be ready to report soon is the details
for the dinners, including the menu items, that were finalized today.
For registered attendees, watch for an upcoming email requesting you to
make your dinner menu selections. You should be receiving an email from
one of our DCS 2018 volunteers, Cindy Bennett, sometime this weekend.
Cindy and her husband John have been helping me quite a bit in 2018.
Thanks again for your continued support of DeLorean Convention & Show
and we hope to see many of you (and your DeLoreans) at DCS 2018.
More details to follow soon.

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
The DCS Planning Team is very happy to announce that Michael Klastorin
will be joining us at DCS 2018, along with all of our DMC book authors.
Michael was the unit publicist for the BTTF II and BTTF III movies and
he also had a small cameo and brief speaking roll in the BTTF III movie.
For those who have read Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History,
you already know Michael has a wealth of information about BTTF History,
with plenty of facts and stories that did not make it into the book. For
BTTF fans, you will not want to miss Michael's talks and presentations.
Michael also plans to sell and autograph copies of his book at DCS 2018,
so between talks, look for him in the BTTF Room or in the Vendors Room.
On Saturday, Michael will most likely setup his book sales in the lobby
of the Mega Center, so you need to seek him out, depending on the day.

More News on the DeLorean Skilled Driving Event at DCS 2018
The Mid-States DeLorean Club completed their final dry-run on the setup,
measurements and function of a Skilled Driving Couse this past weekend.
For those of you driving your DeLoreans to DCS 2018, you will have the
opportunity to show off your precision driving skills on Friday morning.
This will be a low speed, precision driving event that will require both the
driver and a passenger to coordinate their efforts to navigate the course.
Sorry, the course will be "secret" until the day of the event, so only a
redacted version of the course's location is available at this time.
A few spy photos give you an idea of the general appearance of parts of
the course, but no other clues available right now. (maybe in the future?)

Fresh off the heels of finishing the highly anticipated DeLorean film, I'm happy to show attendees an exclusive sneak peek of the feature documentary-hybrid film about John DeLorean, starring Alec Baldwin. The first scene of the film will be shown, along with deleted/bonus scenes. Bonus scenes will feature never before seen footage of both the FBI and Defense lie detector tests conducted on John DeLorean, as told by the polygraphist who conducted one of these tests. An interview with Giorgetto Giugiaro regarding his experience with John DeLorean, as well as exclusive photos and archival never before seen. A unexplored story of intrigue featuring one of the guests at DCS - author Hillel Levin will also be revealed, with never before heard private audio tapes of John DeLorean. In addition, those attending the screening will receive a special little film related giveaway! :)

Does This DeLorean Make Me Look Heavy?
The DCS 2018 Planning Team announces another DeLorean activity for Friday
in the Mega Center ... a DeLorean Weigh-in. DCS 2018 will have a set of
4-pad, electronic race car scales that will be used to get accurate weights
of anyone who wants their DeLorean weighed, especially engine-swap cars.
Whether you have a V8 in the back of your DeLorean or if you just wanted
to know the actual weight of your DeLorean, empty or when fully packed, or
just how much weight does all of your Back to the Future props add to the
weight of the DeLorean and how much does it impact weight distribution.
These questions and other DeLorean weight related questions will hopefully

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
Today, July 27 is the last day for DCS Dinner Registrations.
If you are interested in listening to the Keynote Speakers
and their presentations after Dinner, make sure you have
registered for the evening dinner(s).
Keep in mind, each Dinner Registration may include extra
bonus items or activities beyond what is posted now, such
as custom sketches by Giugiaro that we had at DCS 2016,
which our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Perini, kept as a secret.
After today, DCS Dinners will be Sold Out and the Resort
will be pre-paid for the DCS Dinners that are registered.
Event Registration (without dinner options) will continue
through August 5th, but after that, DCS 2018 is Sold Out.

Last Call for DCS 2018 Vendors
If you are interested in being a vendor at DCS 2018 in
St. Charles, IL from August 16 through August 18, make
sure to Event Register and contact the DCS Planning Team
by this weekend, to get on the DCS 2018 Vendor List.
Event Registration ends on August 5, and is required for
all DCS Vendors. Dinner Registration ends today, July 27.
Thanks,
Rich W. [for the DCS 2018 Planning Team]

DeLorean Owners, Fans and Enthusiasts,
Although several tentative VIP Invitations have been declined,
there are still a few that will not be confirmed (or declined)
for another week or so. There are also a few VIP Guests that
are dealing with medical conditions and they also plan to make
final decisions on attending DCS 2018 within the next week.
Our thoughts and prayers are with these VIPs and their families.
Below are a few VIPs that have already Declined our Invitations:
Bill Collins will be unable to attend due to health reasons.
George Levy will be unable to attend due to health reasons.
(George is on the mend, but he is unable to travel at this time)
Dan Shea will be unable to attend due to health reasons.
More VIPs may be added to this list prior to DCS 2018.

As anticipated, there has been a little flurry of registrations today (last day),
so we may be near Sold Out by the time DCS Dinner Registration closes.
If all DCS Registration is "locked" after midnight tonight (July 27), and you
need to Event Register, feel free to email me if that option is not available.
There is a chance Event Registration will be Sold Out at the same time as
Dinner Registration, so we may need to do a manual over-ride in database
to add New Event Registrations. Currently, the system does not delete any
cancelled registrations (they are tagged to cancel), so we may be able to
add Event Registrations manually, to compensate for cancelled registrations.
If you need any help Event Registering after July 27, please contact me:

Hi Rich,
-When/where will the POGs be presenting? Please let them know Josh is registered to be there with VIN 1798 (Troy Michigan parts car.) At DCS '14, they had a pic from the 80's when it was at the Troy QAC.
-How much is the surcharge for dinner cancellations the weekend of the event?
Thanks for all you do!

Hi Rich,
POGs will be POGs, and I know better not to give them an early "block" for their talk,
however, they have also been known to forget time when they are in the DCS Museum.
POGs plan to be at DCS 2018 on Friday and Saturday (sorry, no break-out on Thursday).
As for any last minute dinner cancellations, it's still on a case by case basis and we will
certainly do our best for our attendees, but please keep in mind that the dinners are all
being prepaid, so it is really based on the actual time for the request. We know what
Ken's policy was, and we use it as a guideline, but circumstances are different than they
were years ago. It really is all in the timing. The vast majority of cancellations up until
today have been for medical reasons, family medical reasons or work schedule changes.
All refunds have been paid in full, with DCS absorbing all CC charges in all cases, so far.
That is the current state of the state.
Thanks,
Rich W.

The DeLorean Car Show is open to the public on Saturday
from 10am to 4pm, and although admission is FREE, we will
be accepting donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation
for Parkinson's Research as patrons enter the Mega Center.
Recommended donations of $10 for Adults and $5 for Kids,
for the General Public, however, we also recommend you
donate a little more if you are a member of the DeLorean
Community or BTTF Community and did not Event Register.
Remember to say Hi to Oliver and Terry Holler as you donate.
See you at the DeLorean Car Show on Saturday, 08/18/18.

There appears to be some confusion over the term Sold Out.
In this case, Sold Out means no further advance sales and
no on-site registration for either DCS Events or for Dinners.

Sorry for the daily schedule delay, but updates still in progress this morning.
Please note the Daily Schedule will still be tentative until the convention begins.
Some Updates and Changes to Note:
Kevin Krinn confirmed for Digital Dash - Tech Talk (Thursday and Friday)
Josh Schattenkirk confirmed for V8 Swap - Tech Talk (Thursday and Friday)
Patrick Wright will be a late arrival Thursday, but VIP Talk still planned for 4pm
Michael Lantieri is now tentative, due to HBO contract obligations with WestWorld,
but he is still trying to attend at least one day (TBA) based on next week's scouting
for new locations for the Fall Season of WestWorld. MIchael's wife may not attend.
Klaus Steiner has had to cancel due to a family member's medical condition, however
Wolfgang Hank has promised to "fill in the blanks" by doing Klaus' presentation(s).
Colleen Booth has had to cancel. Colleen's brother, Dan Shea (VIP health cancellation)
is still working through his medical condition, and both Colleen and Dan will be missed.

Additional updates from Patrick Wright that I forgot to mention above.
In addition to Patrick's later arrival on Thursday, Patrick also mentioned that his publisher
will be unable to supply new editions of his book in time for DCS 2018, so if you want to
have Patrick sign a copy of his book, it's best to order an original edition on Amazon, new
or used, and bring it with you to DCS 2018. Patrick will sign books Friday and Saturday.
Patrick is preparing two completely different talks, one for break-outs, one for after dinner
on Friday evening, and he is very much looking forward to the Q & A sessions afterward,
so make sure to think of a few questions for Patrick (I already gave him my question list).
Patrick also has a DVD full of rare photos of JZD that are not often seen by the public.

DCS 2018 - DeLorean Tech Day at Baltria Auto
If you are bringing your DeLorean to DCS 2018, please bring it across the street
to the DeLorean Tech Day on Wednesday. We want a line-up of cars out front
that will slow traffic (if not stop it) and we know even one DeLorean can do that.
Priority Reserved Parking will be designated out front. Try to arrive by 9am.
For Safety Reasons, attendees will be given Name Tag stickers on Wednesday,
since we do not want Event Badges and lanyards getting caught in fan belts.
Please check-in as you arrive at Baltria Auto, to get a name tag sticker. If you
RSVP'd for the Tech Day, you will be in the "First Call" for Lunch and Dinner.

Although still in the works, we are planning the First DeLorean Track Day.
No, not a Race Track. Instead, it will be a Train Track Day.
Oliver and Terry Holler are working with a local railway museum, 10 minutes from the Resort,
to have a Track Day for the MJF Foundation. If all goes well, DCS Attendees will be able take
a ride in the Holler's Time Machine "on the rails" for a donation to the MJF Foundation.
Thanks to everyone involved in helping to try to make this last minute event for DCS 2018.
We are planning to do this on Thursday morning, weather permitting. More details to follow.

Hope the roadster will be making an appearance!
I had planned on it, earlier on, but unfortunately ran out of time to prep before convention,
and no room in one of the enclosed trailers, to keep it out of the rain. Rain expected today.
Today and next few days appear to be cooler, upper 70's to low 80's.
Weather looks like it may be OK for the Track Day and for DeLorean Skilled Driving Event.
Looks like the weekend will be dry and about mid 80's temps are expected for the weekend.

After traveling to and from Pheasant Run Resort this Summer, from several
directions, here are a few Construction Zones expected during mid-August.
These Construction Zones range from simple resurfacing, with reduced lanes,
to full Bridge Reconstruction Projects, so plan for delays on the routes below:
Route 59 - Northbound - from I-88 to North Avenue (South of PRR)
Route 59 - Southbound - from North Avenue to I-88 (South of PRR)
Route 59 - Southbound - from I-90 to North Avenue (North of PRR)
Route 59 - Northbound - from North Avenue to I-90 (North of PRR)
Route 31 - Northbound - Bridge Closed South of Route 62 (Near DMC MW)
Route 31 - Southbound - Bridge Closed South of Route 62 (Near DMC MW)
I-355 - Northbound from I-55 to North Avenue (South of PRR)
I-355 - Southbound from North Avenue to I-55 (South of PRR)
I-88 - Westbound from I-290 to West of I-294 (East of PRR)
I-88 - Eastbound from I-294 to the I-290 Merge (East of PRR)
Good News, Bad News on Current Construction
More Construction started this week on I-88 near Route 59 (expect delays)
Good News, the Route 59 re-paving North of I-88 has first layer down
Bad News, the Route 59 re-paving North of I-88 has first layer down,
so the second layer paving is starting, closing to single lane traffic.
Limited temp lane markers are difficult to see at night as well.
Alternate Routes for Route 59 include Winfield Road and Kirk Road.

I second this. We are new owners having had our car for a mere two (2) months. Everyone we met could not have been nicer, and my wife, who is not a huge car person, said it felt like a new family. The talks/guests were really interesting, and it was such a cool experience to interact with the authors, employees, and others who were around when these cars debuted. Plus, where else can you play Outlaw with a DeLorean as the simulator?! We are looking forward to attending more DeLorean functions and the next DCS. Great job by Rich and everyone else who helped put this on.

I certainly want to thank the presenters. My wife came along thinking that she would probably bug out and do some reading. From first to last presentation, we both found the topics fascinating and well presented. She never dropped out of any of the seminars and enjoyed the various topics as much a I did. The same goes for the evening dinner presentations. Generally well done bridging the scale from entertaining to informative. This was the first convention for us and it was fun. Finally, it was just grand to talk with other owners and hear their stories. My only suggestion (and I may have just missed it) would be evaluation feedback from attendees so that what works would be continued and what might need some improvement could be addressed in future shows. Again, my thanks for all the work that went into pulling this convention together.

Hi Ron,
I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed the convention. One of the primary goals of the DCS Team is to make
the convention enjoyable for the attendees, as well as the VIP Guests, and for the second event in a row,
all the VIP Guests told us they would attend another DCS Event in the future, if they were invited again.
Although we do provide information for families to enjoy other activities in the area during the convention,
one of our other primary goals is to select DCS locations that are best for the convention activities and not
necessarily for family vacation destinations. If both of these goals align, then all the better.
As for feedback and constructive comments, these are welcomed on the DCS thread in the DMC club section
(DeLorean Midwest Connection Club) and there is a local club member who does feedback surveys at his job.
Rich R. did not get to the survey after DCS 2016 but he may be able to put something together (soon?).
Thanks,
Rich W. [for the DCS Team]

DCS 2018 was my first DCS event and I enjoyed it very much. My only suggestion would be, if you didn't want to attend the dinner but attend the presentations after the dinner have a separate price or even an all inclusive package. Example $280 for all dinners, reg, and car show. Or something along those lines. Being my first DCS I didn't know what to expect, and some of the information was a bit confusing. But all in all it was a good time. Thanks!!

HM9,
Thanks for the comments. Depending on how the events are organized and how locations are used,
there are Food and Beverage minimums that need to be met, otherwise additional charges may apply
such as ballroom costs. For example, meet the F&B minimum and no rental charges for dinner room.
It's all a careful balancing, and "packaging" can get complicated, based on the number of options.
The way we did DCS 2016 was a bit easier (logistically), since we rented the entire convention center
in a logistics package deal and the revenue from the Raffle Cars paid for this option, in advance.
The pricing of the Dinners covers the VIP expenses, including travel, rooms and meals for VIPs.
The Keynote Speaker presentations after the Dinners helps "justify" the dinner plus talks cost.
Yes, there could have been better communication for new attendees, but with reduced staff this time,
we did the best we could with the time we were able to put into the pre-event marketing of DCS 2018.
Planning for DCS 2018 was condensed after Tony Swann was unable to continue as the lead for DCS,
and my limited availability (due to family medical reasons) made this event even more challenging,
especially with me taking the lead for DCS 2018. While I cannot commit to the next DCS at this time,
I will endeavor to pursevere unless someone else would like to step up and take the lead.
Thanks,
Rich W.

A huge thanks to Wolfgang Hank (from Bavaria) for attending DCS 2018.
Wolfgang did a great job at the first DCS Tech Day, both as Guest Tech
and then as a presenter during Tech Day, in breakout rooms and Keynote
Speaker on Saturday evening (technically into Sunday morning, as well).
Although Wolfgang insists he is "just the mechanic", most nerds know
Tony Stark (Iron Man) also referred to himself as just "the mechanic".
Wolfgang certainly was the Iron Man of DCS 2018, with 6 presentations.
And as many attendees observed, Wolfgang did not stop assisting owners
with their cars once the Tech Day was over. Wolfgang assisted with at
least two more door latch adjustments and countless technical advise.
For those who did not attend DCS 2018, I am attaching several links to
some of Wolfgang's presentations below. After you view these videos,
please leave Wolfgang some positive feedback and we hope he posts more.

You can still attend even if you can't bring your car! I was bummed out at not getting to drive to DCS but nobody judged me for not having it there or anything. (And it was probably for the best since I was coming down with a cold by the end of the weekend and driving 1400 miles in 3 days wouldn't have been that much fun.)

The red interior had Mike Costello vin 1115 listed on the windshield.
I can't remember the owner's name for the black car, but he was the winner of the DeLorean Skilled Driver Course (if that helps).

There has been some recent misinformation about DCS being spread around on FaceBook
and although I have never "participated" in FB, there are members of the DCS Team that
monitor FB and let me know when DCS related posts are being made.
While I am fine with everyone having their own opinions about DCS, I would prefer folks
do not try to re-write facts and details about DCS [especially DCS 2016 and DCS 2018].
Although details have been posted here and elsewhere by myself and the DCS Team,
some folks still seem to "get it wrong", such as easily verifiable facts like room pricing.
Keep in mind the facts below are just quick summary details of DCS 2016 and DCS 2018
quickly compiled to dispute the misinformation that has been posted recently, such as
room pricing, event pricing and lists of "New" VIP Guest Speakers at DCS 2016 and 2018.
Other issues may be subject to interpretation, but most of the info is self-explanatory.
DCS 2016 - Recap of what was "New" for DCS 2016
DCS 2016 was one of the lowest cost DCS events in recent memory, with $99 room nights
and only a $25 Event Registration cost. Not exactly "break-the-bank" event pricing.
All DeLoreans were able to park indoors, in air conditioned convention center for the
entire event, and although enter/exit was limited, no one was "forced" to park indoors.
New VIP Guest Speakers for DCS 2016
- Dr. Giancarlo Perini (Keynote), worked at Ital Design and a consultant to DMC in the 1970's
- Stephen Arrington, author - "In DeLorean's Shadow", sole surviving DeLorean trial defendant
- Colleen Booth, personal secretary for JZD (DMC years) from mid-70's to early 80's
- Ronnie Arnold, one of the 50K Mile Endurance Car Drivers (using early production DeLoreans)
- George Levy, AutoWeek journalist who attended DeLorean Junket for DeLorean Initial Release
- Klaus Steiner, representing the DeLorean World Team and their tremendous accomplishments
- Chris Nicholson*, presented A Tale of Two Legends - Restorations of VIN...502 and VIN...530
- Rob Grady*, co-presented A Tale of Two Legends - Restorations of VIN...502 and VIN...530
- Michael Scheffe, Construction Coordinator for Back to the Future and BTTF II
- Steve Concotelli, Executive Producer, OUTATIME: Saving the DeLorean Time Machine (movie)
In addition to new guests, there were nearly a dozen returning guests, with new presentations.
In addition to VIP guests, there were several "owner" speakers in the break-out rooms too.
* indicates DCS "regulars" that gave a presentation for the first time, on these topics.
DCS 2018 - Recap of what was "New" for DCS 2018
DCS 2018 had $99 room nights until 2 weeks before event and no roommate "limit" restrictions.
Event Registration under $99. No Dinners required. Not exactly "break-the-bank" event pricing.
All DeLoreans were able to park indoors, in air conditioned convention center, Friday through
Sunday (Noon), and although enter/exit was limited, no one was "forced" to park indoors.
New VIP Guest Speakers for DCS 2018
- Hillel Levin - author of JZD Bio - Grand Delusions
- Patrick Wright - author of JZD Bio - "On A Clear Day..."
- John Lamm - author of DMC book, Stainless Steel Illusion
- Wolfgang Hank (DeLorean World Tour Team - Team Leader)
-- Note: Wolfgang had 6 different presentations at convention
- Tamir Ardon** - Executive Producer - Framing DeLorean documentary
-- Note: Opening Scene (7 minutes), Out-takes and Behind the Scenes
- Jordan Livingston** - Producer, Living the Dream documentary
-- Note: 40 minute preview of Jordan's DeLorean owner documentary
- Stephen L. Arrington** - author of "In DeLorean's Shadow"
-- Note: Extended presentation after Full Presidential Pardon
- Michael Klastorin - unit publicist for BTTF II and BTTF III
- Tim Caravia - Tim's BTTF Hill Valley Creations in LEGO
In addition to new VIP guests, there were several "owner" speakers in the break-out rooms too.
and a half dozen returning VIPs. All returning VIP guests had updated or new presentations.
** indicates DCS "repeat guest" giving a new presentation for the first time, on these topics.
