Best door struts...

I need a new set and was wondering if anyone had bought the ones from Delorean go?? I much rather have the ones that soft lift near the end.. also what about the ones dpi sells??

I installed the ones from Hervey 5 years ago. They opened up smoothly during those years but now I see they are starting to fail. Maybe that is a realistic lifespan I don’t know.

I have the DeLorean Go struts and would recommend them, they have a nice braking action towards the end of the travel. Here is a video taken shortly after installing them in June 2017, outside temperature was around 77 degrees F.

For reference, I have used the following on my car over the years;
DMCH struts (doors/louvres/hood) - came with the car but were already 5 years old at that point (car purchased Oct 2010)
John Hervey/Special T Auto 'Soft Lift' struts - circa Jan 2011 (these were not failing when replaced in 2013, but I didn't like the way one had developed a habit of moving in a fore/aft movement!)
DMCEU struts - circa May 2013 - these however never lifted my doors to full extension
DeLoreanGo struts - fitted June 2017 - I made a follow up purchase several months later and bought a set of DeLoreanGo louvre and hood struts so am now running a full set.

They are holding up well so far, even with winter temps of 35 degrees F.

I've used Rob Grady's door struts for I believe over a decade. Grady's latest door struts that I received open the door with good force up until it is near the end where it then dampens the opening efforts to a nice calm stop at the end of travel. It doesn't take forever for the door to come up and it also doesn't end in a severe stop where the whole car shakes.

I've always had the best luck with Stabilus struts. My torsion bars seem to be set to work best with Stabilus. Looks like that's what Houston is using.

Depends on the shipping option selected, but typically it is 2 days to anywhere in the US (lighter low value orders about 1 week if that is the shipping option you select) - the site will give you various options depending on the value and weight of the order.

Grady's do fail. 1 year in on 20069 1 stopped working. Put them on Jack Singers car and 3 months in 1 failure.:bash:

So not so sure they are the best for reliability however when working they do perform as intended.

That's interesting as our failure rate, especially in the last 4 years, has been extremely low. You've had two? Did you contact us for replacements? I'm sorry I don't know who you are? Your last name would be very helpfull.

Every strut fails eventually.

I've had stabilus struts and they have been ok. But I had a stubborn drivers door that never really raised the last 2 inches on its own. I actually went as far as purchasing parts to fix the strut mounts but never go around to doing it. Why, you may ask......???

I bought Grady's door struts and the door started working perfectly! Both my doors open strong and dampen at the end of the opening cycle as advertised. I am +1 for Grady struts.

Rob, Steve from Virginia should be enough. Your records should show many $$$$$ spent on your goods. As for Jack I think Jack did send his back but I could be wrong..
I can send back the offending door strut for testing but the hassle simply is not worth the time. It was the passenger strut that failed and is the door seldom used. Have
replaced with other.

Not knowing what "failure" means to you it's hard to make an informed reply. While we can't guarantee our door pistons will open perfectly under all conditions and temperatures we certainly can warranty one that has failed if we are so informed. We can't do anything however if a customer makes no attempt to contact us about a concern. IIRC you are in the car business to some degree and I'm sure you would want your customers to advise you of any issues to see if you could keep them satisfied in the end. Had you contacted us I would have gladly sent you a free replacement.

I can vouch for the DeLorean Go struts. My old struts finally gave up (lasted 8 years) and I've got a new set of the DG stainless ones on now. Action is super smooth, no sudden twang at the top of the arc like I used to get with my old ones before they lost the ability to even get the doors up there. I know how much development work went into getting these struts to work just right, and it's definitely paid off. Thumbs up to DeLorean Go :rock_on:

Remind me again, which direction should they be installed? Black housing portion down or up? I know it's a bit of a debate but I'll go with the PJG recommendation to give their hardware the best chance to perform under their conditions.

Someone asked about performance of the DeLorean Go struts in winter temps. I grabbed a quick video while at a local car meet last weekend.

I have found my new delorean go struts to be great. The doors pop right up, much better than they have in the past few years.

However the door is noticeably harder to close. I have to close it with two hands now almost.
I understand there is more force compared to my old worn out struts, but it feels like I need to really put a lot of my weight into it to close them.

Without question the fatter cylinder part should always be uppermost (when the item is open) - this is what is prescribed by the manufacturers, something to do with lubrication :) - the same applies to all gas struts.
